Week of March 23rd
Monday
Carter Hayes, SS, 2026, Wesleyan
GCSU commit. The barrel was extremely potent in a loud showing for Hayes in the box as he powered the Wolves to a region victory. Posted 3-hits including a solo homerun, RBI double, and a hard-hit single as well. Armed with present strength and athleticism in the 5-foot-11, 175-pound frame with some projection remaining. Works from a balanced load while staying compact with explosive hands and generates significant bat speed through the zone. Well-leveraged path with easy carry to the pull-side backed by strength throughout and impact at contact as well. Innate accuracy and feel to move the barrel around the zone stands out in a pull-side oriented approach as he looks to do damage early in the count with strong pitch recognition to match. The track record of hitting continues to grow for Hayes as he has been a fixture atop this lineup for the past couple of years. Offers high-floor tools throughout the profile as he looks to pace the wolves offense throughout the rest of the Spring and manning duties at the 6.
Hudson Pursell, RHP, 2029, Wesleyan
The Wesleyan right-hander toed the rubber for one of his first starts of the year and looked the part across a short 3.0 IP outing. Pursell went on to strike out 4 with 0 walks while only allowing 1 hit with 0 runs given up. Easy mover at 6-foot-3,175-pounds with plenty more to project and budding feel for a 3-pitch mix. Clean, repeatable delivery and gets down the mound well with present arm speed from a ¾ slot. Fastball lived 86-87 (T88 MPH) with arm-side run through the zone. Slider displays a future advanced offering down the line with feel to spin and sharp bite while showing confidence in any count at 74-76 for whiffs. Rounded out the arsenal by mixing in a quality changeup as well to LHH at 77-79 with arm-side fade and depth. The stock continues to trend up for the former Junior Future Gamer as he has staked his claim throughout the Spring as a staple inside the Top 10 for the ‘29 class ranks in the state.
Eli Coffey, 3B, 2026, Paideia
Uncommitted. It was a strong overall performance across the board and quality look at the all-around profile for Coffey to open the week. Stands an athletic 5-foot-11, 165-pounds and offers quality tools on both sides of the ball. At the plate, the RHH came through with a pull-side double. Shows the ability to get into his lower half well while creating length in-zone. Fluid hands stand out with budding accuracy in the barrel and ability to adjust in-zone. The defensive actions at the hot corner really stood out as he made countless tough plays with ease throughout the night. Excellent instincts in the dirt with tools to stick long-term as he boasts lateral quickness and good arm strength to match. Coffey looks the part of a strong contributor for the Pythons as he carries significant value in the box and in the field as well.
