The Prep Baseball Virginia/DC staff makes their way across the Commonwealth and DC throughout the spring to assist high school players in gathering evaluations, including video and some data, that allow our staff to assist in the potential recruitment of student-athletes.

With the staggering start of private and public schools, we have a deeper collection of notes and video on players in this first edition of the Ground Forces Scout Blog.

*Schools and player names are in alphabetical order.*

Benedictine

Hayes Corbitt 3B / RHP / Benedictine College Preparatory, VA / 2029

Corbitt has a physical, projectable frame. The fastball was up to 88mph in his one inning of relief work. He was scattered at times throughout the inning but was still able to get swing and miss and pick up two strikeouts.

Jordan O'Brien OF / RHP / Benedictine College Preparatory, VA / 2028

O'Brien got it done both on the mound and in the box for the Cadets. Offensively, it is a balanced setup with a simple, short bat through the zone from the sophomore leadoff man. O’Brien impressed mightily on the mound. The delivery is repeatable and clean from a three-quarters slot with long arm action. He threw an extremely high strike percentage, seemingly always ahead in the count. The fastball was up to 88 mph, and he used the breaking ball when needed at 73-75.

Bishop Ireton

Thomas Foley SS / OF / Bishop Ireton High School, VA / 2027

Foley showcased a strong hit tool, with barrels coming in three out of his four swings. Foley roped one straight at the left fielder in the 1st, and had a similar swing straight at the center fielder in the 7th. In the 3rd, Foley barreled a double into the left center field gap, moving a runner to third who would later score. Foley showed patience, and was willing to wait for his pitch to do damage. Foley should be a heavy contributor for the Ireton offense this season.

Collegiate

Jake Slater OF / OF / Collegiate School, VA / 2026

Slater has a physical frame and competed in the box. He collected two big hits in the game, both scoring runners. He had a good two-strike piece of hitting on an off-speed offering for a backside single.

Emery Williamson RHP / 3B / Collegiate, VA / 2027

Williamson was dominant through three innings of work with a lot of strikes. The fastball and secondary were working in the zone. He struck out eight in the outing. He is an easy mover that works at a quick pace.

Edison

Matthias Alden RHP / 1B / Edison High, VA / 2026

Alden led the Eagles to a close game with the Saxons. On the mound, Alden delivered five innings with zero earned runs and four strikeouts. Alden topped at 83 with the fastball, mixing in a forkball and slider. He showed confidence in all three of his pitches, landing all three for strikes in any count. At the plate, Alden tied the game up in the 4th with a solo shot deep out to left field. Overall, a great performance from the City College of New York commit on both sides of the ball.

Derek Potts OF / RHP / Edison High School Academy, VA / 2026

The Baldwin Wallace commit tied the game up in the top of the 7th with a double driven to the fence in left field. Potts, from the leadoff spot, had multiple competitive at bats, including a single in the 3rd. Potts also made an impact in centerfield, comfortably tracking down multiple fly balls. Potts looks to be a leader on a senior-heavy Edison team and be a sparkplug at the top of the lineup for the Eagles.

Hayfield

Mason Archer C / SS / Hayfield Secondary, VA / 2027

It was a strong performance for the Hawks’ leadoff hitter and catcher. Archer worked an eight pitch at bat to start the bottom of the first, just getting under one for a flyout. In his next at bat in the third, Archer would get down to a pitch just below the zone and muscle one over the left field fence for a go-ahead two-run home run. Archer has shown increased strength in front of our staff, with a strong showcase at the NOVA Preseason All-State II this winter. Archer should be a strong contributor for the Hawks and an uncommitted junior to keep an eye on.

Jacob Bueno SS / 3B / Hayfield Secondary, VA / 2026

It was a laser show on Saturday for Coppin State commit Jacob Bueno. The senior was consistently on plane and on time, leading to his monster 3-4 day with three extra-base hits and two RBIs. His first hit of the day was a double lined hard to the fence in right center field. The second was another hard hit liner, this time to the left center field gap for his second double of the day. His last swing of the day was a short liner that Bueno got just enough of to get over the wall in left field for a two-run shot. It’s a line drive tendency for Bueno to all fields with quick hands and advanced speed on the base paths. It should be a strong senior campaign for Bueno.

Noah Laster SS / 3B / Hayfield Secondary, VA / 2028

Laster had a standout day for the Hawks. Starting at the plate, the sophomore delivered with two extra-base hits and two RBIs. Laster showed strong power to the pull side, sending a no-doubter over the left field fence in the 2nd to put the Hawks up 1-0. His second knock came on a double down the left field line. On the mound, Laster worked the fastball up to 84 in relief. The fastball worked best to the glove-side, with control coming and going. A secondary mix is still developing for the sophomore, but Laster is still a two-way player to keep track of going forward.

Connor Watson 1B / RHP / Hayfield Secondary, VA / 2027

Watson tossed four scoreless frames out of the bullpen for the Hawks. Watson was primarily a two-pitch mix between the fastball and a sharp curveball. The fastball worked up to 82 and Watson could land it in the zone consistently. Watson worked efficiently and kept Ireton hitters to soft contact.

Heritage

Aiden (AJ) Delaney LHP / 1B / Heritage High School, VA / 2026

A tall lankier framed lefty. Short arm action from a low three-quarters arm slot. A smooth, loose arm with easier effort. He showed feel for three pitches and got swing and misses with all three. His height still allows him to generate a downhill angle on his pitches, even with the lower slot. The fastball was 83-84, touching 85 once on a strikeout; the pitch has a late arm-side run and a bit of depth to it. The slider was 74-75 and had a later break to it with a 2/8 shape. The changeup had good arm speed and heavy fading action at 76-77, a good weapon against right-handed hitters. Struck out 9 in 3 innings with just two walks.

Erick Flores C / OF / Heritage High School, VA / 2027

He has an athletic catcher’s frame and is fine behind the plate, and he should be able to stick there depending on his level. A quick clean release on in-game throws, and he showed accuracy to second and on backpicks to first. At the plate, he had a big game; the best swing of the day was a double off the left-centerfield fence that probably would have been a home run if he hadn’t hit it straight into a stiff wind. He showed his power on that swing. He also showed his ability to barrel the ball and use the whole field on his next hit, when he went to the pitch and lined a hit to right.

Bryce Hayes RHP / RHP / Heritage High School, VA / 2026

A second look at him on the season in a much different setting than in First Pitch. The velocity was down a tick or two from then, topping out at 90 but mostly working in the upper 80s during his first inning. He struggled with control in the first inning but battled through the inning without giving up any runs. He came out in the second and third innings and was much more dialed in, a good adjustment after the first inning. Struck out 5 in 3 innings of hitless ball and only 1 walk. Still primarily used the fastball, mixing in his bigger curve a few times to either open a count or try to freeze a hitter. Most of his swing and misses were on fastballs above the belt where his ball rides a bit.

Langley

Han Davis RHP / Langley High, VA / 2027

Davis worked five efficient innings in a no decision for the Saxons. Using only 51 pitches, Davis only allowed one run on four hits and one walk, tallying three punchouts. Davis primarily mixed between a fastball and splitter. The fastball featured a strong arm-side run, working early and often. The splitter forced soft contact and swing and miss, working excellently off the fastball. Davis should continue to produce competitive outings for the Saxons and is an uncommitted junior to watch this season.

Lance Emery OF / LHP / Langley High, VA / 2026

Emery was a heavy contributor for the Saxon offense on Saturday. Emery drove in two out of the Saxons’ four total runs, including a walk-off RBI single down the right field line. It’s a smooth left-handed swing from Emery, with results coming to the pull side. Emery has a lengthy 6’2”, 165 lb build and shows a strong hit tool, not swinging and missing once in his four at bats.

Luke Murphy OF / 1B / Langley, VA / 2027

Murphy was a tablesetter at the leadoff spot for Langley. Murphy stayed patient, waiting for his pitch to do damage. His patience led to two walks, one of which he would come around to score after. Murphy’s infield single in third led to Langley getting their first run of the game across the board. Should be a leader from the leadoff spot for this Saxons’ offense.

Trent O'Malley OF / RHP / Langley High, VA / 2028

It was a loud outing in relief for Prep Baseball Virginia/DC’s second ranked 2028. O’Malley came out of the gate with intent, starting his first batter at 87-88, ramping up to 90. Slowly the intent faded, settling in between 85-88, but O’Malley was still able to overpower hitters with well-placed heaters in the top of the zone. His slider was occasionally mixed in, featuring between 74-76 and landing to the glove-side. O’Malley kept contact on the ground, keeping Langley in the game. At the plate, O’Malley worked competitive at-bats. In the 7th, O’Malley worked the count full before moving the game winning run up to third on a hard hit grounder. The sophomore is one of the most intriguing two-ways in the state and should be a name to constantly have an eye on.

Nansemond-Suffolk

Noah Brooks 3B / RHP / Nansemond Suffolk Academy, VA / 2028

The 6’4” 210 pound sophomore was on barrel all throughout the day. He stayed on a slider in his second at-bat for a double into LCF. He continues to show that he can impact the baseball in each game. He finished the game 2-4 with a 2B and 3 RBI’s. He showed fluid actions at third base as well.

Chase Eliason RHP / 3B / Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, VA / 2027

It was a strong effort on the mound, going six innings. He only let up one run, three hits, and seven strikeouts. The fastball was up to 83, sitting around 80-82, working ITZ early and often. He had a feel for the curveball and landed it whenever he wanted in any count. He flashed one changeup to a left-handed hitter.

North Cross

Tristan Lange RHP / North Cross, VA / 2026

It was an all-around standout performance on both sides of the ball. He collected three hits on the day. It was also a strong performance on the mound, striking out ten through five innings. The fastball was up to 93 with life, mixing in a slider at 75-77, landing it whenever he wanted. He is an ultimate competitor on the field, especially on the mound; you know what you are going to get.

St. Christopher's

Christian Gray RHP / OF / St. Christopher's, VA / 2026

Gray was dominant on the mound and went six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits with twelve strikeouts. The fastball had a wider range from 84-89. He had a strong feel for the slider in any count.

Connor Lacy 1B / RHP / St. Christopher's School, VA / 2028

He put together some quality at-bats off a lower 90’s arm. He jumped on the first fastball he saw for a backside RBI single. It was impressive for an underclassman to handle himself well. He has a chance to be a big part of St. Christopher’s success in the middle of the lineup.
