Early this week, Prep Baseball staff has seen a pair of tightly contested games, with several standout performers in both contests. On Monday 3/23, Emerald Ridge prevailed after trailing all game by a final score of 7-6. On Tuesday 3/24, Lake Stevens edged out Shorewood, 3-2. Below are scouting notes on standout players from both matchups.

Emerald Ridge vs. Rogers (3.23.26)

Emerald Ridge

'27 OF Preston Bolam (Uncommitted)
The lefty had a breakout winter showcase look at PNW Preseason All-State, carrying over into a strong in-game performance on Monday. Bolam set the tone atop the Jags lineup, going 2-3 with 2 runs, a HBP and an RBI overall. Bolam's swing worked well to the big part of the field, where his compact strength and shorter path from the left side resulted in line drives all game long. The 6.99 speed shown in the winter translated well on the bases and in the outfield, where he made multiple rangy plays in center. An arrow up prospect heading into the remainder of 2026, Bolam carries an intriguing power/speed combination that should play at the college level.

'27 OF Kaden Almario (Uncommitted)
Almario looks to have added some strength since our previous look, resulting in middle of the order type pop from the right side. The stocky-framed righty features a longer, whippy path with a pull-oriented approach. The highlight of the day came for him in the second inning, where he roped a two-run double down the LF line. Almario also displayed plus arm strength in pregame INF/OF. Though he unfortunately had his afternoon cut short and left with an injury in this game, he'll be a bat to monitor moving into the summer.

'26 RHP Zach Morris (Columbia Basin Commit)
The experienced arm got the start for ER, and had a mixed bag of results on Monday. Morris had a tough first couple of innings, but bounced back nicely and worked through 5 frames with the game tied as he exited. The medium-framed arm worked through a high intent delivery and was aggressive with the fastball, sitting 83-86 T 88 MPH. He also mixed in a more firm slider at 78-80 MPH and more of a 11/5 curveball at 65-68 MPH. Morris made some big pitches with runners on in his later innings and got plenty of swing and miss start to finish, ending the day with 10 K's. Gritty performance.

'26 INF Maliq Razzaq (Uncommitted)
Another sparkplug in what was a productive day for the top part of the lineup, Razzaq finished 2-4 with 2 runs scored in this game. A compact, wiry-framed athlete, Razzaq has enough twitch and athleticism for a middle infield spot, though we've seen him behind the plate in the past as well. At the plate, it's a contact over power approach, with the ability to work counts and foul off tough pitches shown all afternoon. Razzaq played what was a tougher dirt surface particularly well at SS in this look on top of his offensive contributions.

'27 OF Riley Humphreys (Uncommitted)
Humphreys provided what would end up being the game winning knock in the 7th, plating the tying and go ahead runs to keep ER undefeated in the early spring. A high-waisted, long-levered athlete, Humphreys works short to long well with a flatter approach from the right side. A key piece in what looks to be a very lengthy lineup, Humphreys collected two hits and scored a run in this contest.

Rogers

'26 OF Kolton Weed (PLU Commit)
The Rams offense got off to a hot start Monday afternoon, thanks in part to a towering solo home run the other way from the senior that opened the scoring. Weed is coming off of a breakout showcase look at PNW Preseason All-State, showcasing plus speed and power tools. The slugging ability was on display with another double added pull-side later on. Weed does a great job staying compact while maintaining bat speed with an aggressive stroke, resulting in the power to all fields. He also played a great center field, closing on balls in the gaps for one or two key putouts. Key piece for Rogers this spring in a bigger role on the offensive side.

'26 INF Talan Robertson (Lower Columbia Commit)
An on-base machine in this game, Robertson reached base in each of his four plate appearances, tallying 2 singles, a double and a HBP. The lean, corner INF type showed great adjustability at the plate, collecting an RBI single on a tough two strike pitch, and driving his double on a borderline pitch as well. The flatter barrel plane maintained through the zone allows for greater coverage and liners to all fields. A high-IQ player, Robertson showed quality movements at 3B despite one or two tough breaks in-game. Robertson also runs a fastball into the high 80's as Rogers' workhorse on the mound, and enters his final spring as a key two-way piece.

'27 OF Anthony Solorio (Uncommitted)
A quiet confidence in all facets, Solorio had a nice day offensively Monday afternoon, going 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored. The uncommitted junior set in an open stance from the right side with a loose-wristed swing and shorter finish. Solorio drove in a run on a hard hit single the other way early on to pad the Rams lead. Solorio profiles well to a corner OF role defensively with a strong arm shown pregame and steady, shorter strides to close on baseballs. Intriguing follow.

'27 RHP Evan Tercero (Uncommitted)
On what was mostly an offense-heavy day, Tercero turned in a nice relief outing to keep Rogers in it late. The lean-framed arm worked through a steady-paced delivery with a tighter action and 3/4 slot delivery. The FB sat 80-81, but Tercero leaned heavily on a low 70's slider to keep hitters guessing, particulary in his first couple of innings. The junior worked 3.1 IP without allowing an earned run while logging 5 K's.

Lake Stevens vs Shorewood (3.24.26)

Lake Stevens

Lake Stevens got some really quality pitching and defense in this match-up and produced just enough timely hitting to grab a 3-2 victory on the road vs host Shorewood.

On the mound, uncommitted ‘26 RHP Emmitt Linehan was terrific and absolutely cruised through the first 5 innings of this contest. The tall, lanky 6’4 righty uses an easy, methodical delivery with sustainable, starter type effort. Repeats his direction well and stays balanced. Clean, continuous arm stroke from a high ¾ slot that creates some downward angle. Overall pitched comfortably in the 81-83 range with a reliable CB at 70-72 and flashed an occasional CH at 76-77. Mature, senior type of effort in this one and Linehan looks to have the ability to be a consistent strike thrower and innings eater throughout the spring.

Final line 6 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, BB, 4 K

Offensively it was a balanced effort from the Vikings line-up and they showed impressive depth. Uncommitted ‘27 INF Cayden DeElena led the team with 2 hits on the day and a run scored. A preseason standout, DeElena has quality strength with a mature approach at the plate. Worked up the middle and oppo on his 2 hits, showing an ability to keep his hands inside of the ball and also let it travel. Defensively was stout as well at 3B and overall brings a balanced game to the diamond.

Additionally, Lake Stevens got hits from ‘27 OF Grant McAllister, who also contributed a RBI and standout sophomores ‘28 C Jacob Heston and ‘28 Devin Johnson

We had preseason looks at both Heston and Johnson and they each built on that momentum with strong looks in the box and quality swings. Heston barreled up 2 balls with a tight, compact swing and sturdy lower half/foundation. Johnson is long, wiry and twitchy with quick hands/wrists and a whippy barrel into contact. Both are names to watch in the 2028 class.

Lastly, uncommitted ‘27 two-way Blake Moser impacted the game in multiple ways. Right away in the top of the 1st, Moser got LS on the board with a towering 2-out solo HR to left field. Got a hanging breaking ball that stayed up in the zone on the inner 3rd and put an elite, high level turn on the ball and drove it out of the park. Creates bat speed in a tight window with bent levers and not only managed to get his barrel to a tough location but also stayed through the ball with extension in order to keep it fair. Easy raw power.

To finish things off, Moser came right in from SS and closed out the game in the 7th to earn a save. It’s always a tricky dynamic evaluating an arm after they spend 6 straight innings on defense and also handle hitting but then get on the mound at the most crucial point of the game. So there was a little rust to shake off initially but overall the arm talent and upside are undeniable. Moser ran the FB up to 88-89 with life out of hand and heavier action into the zone. He paired the FB with an above average SL at 77-79 that has the chance to be a consistent swing & miss offering as he continues to gain feel. Overall there’s some effort to the operation on the mound the the pure stuff has a chance to be electric.

Shorewood

The host Stormrays had a slow time generating offense in this one but the bats caught fire late and made things interesting down the stretch. Leading the way with 2 of the 4 total hits was uncommitted ‘27 INF/C/P Danny Morgan. Another preseason standout with multiple above average tools. Morgan swung it well on this look going 2-3, 2B, RBI. Keeps things quiet and relaxed in the box with a simple set-up and shorter forward move. The hands can get going quickly & he flashed bat speed throughout the day. Power plays to both gaps. Defensively we got to see some versatility as well as he took over catching duties after his start. Received well throughout and backpicked a runner at 1B. Plus arm strength from the INF, where he’s been up to 87, translates to C and overall it’s a nice element to add to his game.

Shorewood got single hits from uncommitted ‘27 OF Christian Nash as well as ‘26 INF Kanata Barber (Lower Columbia)

Nash is a strong, compact athlete with great burst and juice in the barrel. Pulled a 2B into deep LF and cruised into 2nd base. Would come around to score a run as well. Offensively he was a preseason standout as well with his athleticism and hard contact in BP. Positionally he has plenty of arm strength to handle the OF and can also run the FB to 83-84. Barber has a long, proven track record of success at this point and he continued to display a mature game. Defensively made a great diving play at 2B early in the game and continued to handle all the opportunities that came his way. At the plate, he smashed a late RBI 2B to keep a 2-run rally going. Got the barrel to a ball up in the zone and caught it out front so it carried to his pull-side gap and made it to the base of the wall.

On the mound, the aforementioned Danny Morgan got the start and was solid across 4 innings of work. The velocity wasn’t quite at the peak we saw this preseason, working 84-86 and moving a heavier FB to both sides of the plate. Saw both a CB and SL being used in this one and the SL stood out as his most reliable and effective secondary. Using it at almost a 50% clip, Morgan has a ton of confidence going to the breaking ball early for strikes and understands how to expand when ahead. Punched out 6 in 4 innings of work with 0 BB.

After Morgan, Shorewood got a strong relief outing from ‘26 RHP Max Rojas (Tacoma CC) for the final 3 frames. Overall, Rojas allowed 1 H, 3 BB and punched out 5 using a SL heavy attack throughout. A sharp breaking ball with hard sweeping action, there’s clearly a ton of confidence pitching off of the breaking ball here as the primary and mixing in the FB at 80-83 as needed. Rojas looked very comfortable in the reliever role and his arsenal should make him a frustrating match-up for opposing hitters.
