2026 KSHSAA Team Preview: Cimarron Blue Jays

Prep Baseball Kansas Staff

The Kansas high school baseball season kicks off on Mar. 19, opening day for regular season action under KSHSAA regulations. Leading up to opening day, we’ll be publishing our team previews ahead of the 2026 spring season, touching on programs spanning all state classifications, counting down to the official Prep Baseball Kansas Preseason Power 25 Rankings.

Perennially, we’ve submitted a preseason questionnaire to high school head coaches across the entire state. Their responses have been flooding in and we’re using the detailed insight they’ve provided in our team-by-team preseason analysis.

Our 2026 preseason coverage continues today.

2026 SEASON OUTLOOK

No. of Returning Position Players: 6
No. of Returning Pitchers: 5

Top Returners:

  • Logan Simon (2027) - INF/OF, 6'3 185, R/R
    • Logan came on strong at the end of his sophomore year. He went 22 for his last 44 over the 2nd half of the season and ended up hitting .354 with some big hits in key moments for us. We are looking for him to take another big step forward this season.
  • Alex Schlesener (2026) - OF, 5'10 170, R/R
    • Alex is going into his senior year as a 4 year starter in the OF for us. He has great hand-eye coordination and just seems to find a way to barrel up the ball. He also has made great strides as one of our most reliable players in the OF.
  • Logan Heddlesten (2026) - P/OF/1B, 6'2 200, L/L
    • Logan throws the ball hard and has great control of his off-speed stuff. He is looking to turn some heads this year and put himself in a position to play at the next level, as a sophomore he was an honorable mention all-conference player who should be one of the top pitchers in 3A this year.
  • Coulter Dohrmann (2027) - P/C/SS, JR, 6'1 175, R/R
    • Coulter can do it all, he can play all 9 positions if I asked him to. By his standards he struggled a little bit at the plate his sophomore year, but still had 20 RBI's and was 24/24 in SB attempts. This young man is capable of being one of the top players in the GWAC this season.
  • Ryder Gordon (2028) - P/C/INF, 5'8 145, R/L
    • Ryder, much like Coulter is a do it all kid who I can put anywhere on the field. Last year as a freshman he put up numbers that should have earned him all-conference, as he threw 35 1/3 innings on the bump with a 4-1 record with 2 saves. He struck out 37 in those 35 innings, we expect less walks this year which can lead to even better numbers this season.
  • Colby Wilson (2026) - P/SS, 6'1 160, R/R
    • Colby will be going into his 4th year as a starter as well and every year he has been more productive than the season before. He stepped up and filled a huge gap for us last year at short and will be looking to improve even more this year as a senior. He finds a way to get on base and set the table for us, probably moving up to the leadoff spot vacating a spot that had been held by Trace Kopper (Tabor) for the last 4 years. Colby is a leader for this team, and with the growth he has shown over his 4 years I expect a great senior year from him.

Top Newcomers:

  • Landon Charles (2027) - OF, 5'10 145, R/R
    • Landon is a move in from Dodge City, and this kid can float. I am really hoping that he can help replace the 41 SB we lost from Kopper graduating.
  • Maverick Siek (2028) - P/1B, 6'2 165, R/R
    • Mav will have a chance to find some time on the varsity field this year with our 4-year starter at 1B Breck Averhoff's graduation. Maverick will be coming back from a terrible football injury this year, so hopefully he is ready to hit the ground running on day one.
  • Alan Cervantes (2027) - P/2B, 5'7 145, R/R
    • Alan has worked extremely hard during the summer and has put himself in the conversation with spots we need to fill from last year. On the mound he throws strikes, and challenges hitters with surprising velo and a sharp slider.

Key Players Lost:

Coach’s Insight: “One of our biggest strengths last year was our starting pitching. We had 3 guys with and ERA under 2 and we will get back Heddlesten after missing his Junior year and he was all conference as a Sophomore where he had an ERA at 1.60 and struck out 47 in 30 innings. We believe that our aggressiveness on the bases also is a huge strength for us as we stole 123 bases last season only being caught 6 times. To answer honestly, we have to do a better job of putting the ball in play with runners in scoring position. Too often last year we struck out and didn't move runners with less than two outs. Productive outs is a key focus for us this year as we don't have a ton of pop.” – Christopher Chilton, head coach
