2026 East KC Preseason ID: Quick Hits

Eliott Wilk
Central Region Operations Director

On Saturday, February 7th, the Prep Baseball Missouri staff traveled to The Edge Baseball Training Facility in Lee's Summit, MO to host the first annual East KC Preseason ID. This event was open for all 2026-2029 class members and featured 14 players from the area.

All of our events offer players the opportunity to update their recruiting resume and showcase their talents in front of our staff. We also use these events as identifiers for future invite-only events, like the Preseason All-State, our summer Kansas City Top Prospect Games and Missouri State Games, and the prestigious Prep Baseball Future Games that takes place at the tail end of the summer. Shortly after the event, our staff compiled several of the day’s stat leaders inside our traditional ‘Stat Story’, which you can find HERE

Today, after combing through our notes from the day, we’ve compiled some of the event’s standouts below within these ‘Quick Hits’.

QUICK HITS

+ RHP/1B Evan McDaniel (Kearney, 2027; Central Missouri commit) emerged from Saturday’s event as arguably the day’s biggest winner, showcasing his tools on both sides of the ball. The lean, 6-foot-4, 172-pound two-way prospect opened the day with an impressive outing on the mound, running his fastball up to 89.7 mph with ride through the zone at 2,400+ RPM. He complemented it with two distinct breaking balls: a 72-73 mph curveball with -12" of vertical break and a 71-72 mph slider showing -15" of horizontal movement per TrackMan. McDaniel also turned over a 76-77 mph changeup with heavy arm-side fade to round out a polished four pitch mix. Later, the recnt Central Missouri commit translated his long levers and athleticism to the box, producing a 100.3 mph peak exit velocity while averaging 89.6 mph per batted ball. He capped off his workout by firing an 87 mph bullet across the infield, further reinforcing his upside as a high-level two-way talent.

+ LHP Landon Nickell (Lee's Summit North, 2029) showed plenty of upside on the mound during his bullpen on Saturday. With significant room to continue adding strength to his lean 5-foot-10, 139-pound frame, the young left-hander sat comfortably at 82-83 mph with the fastball, producing spin rates north of 2,300 RPM while already showing notable ride through the zone (19” IVB). Off of the fastball, he showed feel for a 69-70 mph sweeping curveball and a 73-76 mph changeup that featured -16” of arm-side fade, giving him a well-rounded three-pitch mix. As he continues to polish his game and add strength, Nickell is a name to keep an eye on in the coming years.

+ A physical athlete with strength throughout his 6-foot, 204-pound frame, 1B Trevor Oravetz (Lafayette, 2026) shined with the bat in this look, flashing big power and high-end bat speed throughout his round of BP. The St. Louis area native produced one of the louder rounds of the day, barreling his best ball 365 feet at 99.4 mph. He consistently worked back through the middle of the field, averaging 90 mph per batted ball. Defensively, Oravetz also flashed arm strength and reliable footwork around the bag at first base, firing his firmest throw at 80 mph.

+ Another bat that flashed serious power during Saturday’s trip to Lee’s Summit was OF Brock Mason (Summit Christian, 2028). The 5-foot-10, 188-pound sophomore lived on the barrel throughout BP, showing a simple, repeatable swing paired with strength that projects to play at the next level. Mason generated effortless power, backed by above-average Blast Motion data, including 24.2 mph hand speed, 76.9 mph bat speed, and 22.2 G of rotational acceleration. He posted a 98.3 mph max exit velocity, while his 91.1 mph average exit velocity and 62% hard-hit percentage were both top marks at the event.

+ CIF Korbin Miley (Lee’s Summit North, 2029) was a strength-filled freshman standout in this look. Utilizing his 6-foot, 243-pound frame, Miley generated easy bat speed (T75.7 mph) and impressive power at the plate, barreling one of the furthest balls of the day, sending his best ball 361 feet at 94.8 mph. With a simple swing that works inside-out through the zone, Miley shows advanced strength for his age, and there’s plenty more power to come as he continues to refine and polish his game.
