2026 NY Preseason ID: Long Island: Quick Hits

On Friday, February 20th, the Prep Baseball New York staff hosted the 2026 NY Preseason ID: Long Island at Long Island Sports Complex in Freeport, NY. Over 75 players made it out to this event, providing us with updated looks and a new list of players to follow in New York this upcoming spring.
We begin our post-event content today with our quick hits from the event, highlighting some of the notable players from the day and their numbers.

Position Players
+ OF Bryce Valls (Chaminade, 2027):
Valls is a physical 6-foot-4, 195-pound athlete who showed off a complete toolset. Posted a 6.58 60-yard dash, which was an event best, 94 MPH arm from the outfield, another event best, and a 101 MPH max EV, which was the third highest at the event. High-end toolsy uncommitted outfield prospect in the state’s junior class class.

+ OF Jake Ostertag (Babylon, 2027):
Currently ranked No. 38 in the state’s 2027 class, Ostertag measured as a 6-foot-3, 200-pound hitter with big power traits. Led the event with a 104.6 MPH EV, with an average of 89 MPH and a max distance of 354’. Strong rotational profile (74–76 MPH bat speed) produces a heavy barrel through contact. Also, showed some athleticism in the 60 running a 7.04.

+ MIF John Miller (Poly Prep, 2028):
Miller is a 5-foot-10, 160-pound sophomore infielder with a strong blend of athleticism and raw strength. Generated violent rotational acceleration for a 102.2 MPH peak EV, the second best at the event and 392′ max distance, which led the event. Defensively sound at short with clean, fundamental actions and an 85 MPH arm across the diamond. Posted a 6.99 60-yard time. High follow in the class.

+ C/OF Phileep Nowakowski (Poly Prep, 2028):
Currently ranked No. 37 in the state’s 2028 class, a 5-foot-10, 175-pound primary catcher with a clean, plane-efficient swing generated EVs at 95+ MPH at 360+ feet and bat speed up to 76 MPH. Defensively, quick transfer with 1.95-2.04 pops and 78 MPH arm from behind the plate and an 85 MPH arm from the outfield. High-follow prospect in the class.

+ 3B/RHP Sean Gaine (Smithtown East, 2027):
Currently ranked No. 128 in the state’s junior class, Gaine is a 6-foot-1, 195-pound two-way prospect with strength and balance in the actions. Rotational swing (76% OPE) drives a 99 MPH EV to all fields. Strong defender at 3B with clean actions and an 89 MPH arm. On the mound, displayed a quality 4-pitch mix on the mound: FB 84-86 MPH with life, plus two breaking balls over 2400 RPM with distinct shapes and tilt.

Currently ranked No. 28 in the state’s sophomore class, Lewis is a projectable 6-foot-1, 168-pound two-way athlete. Swing is quick (22g Rot Acc) with fluid hands and mature approach, showing 97 MPH EV. Athletic profile includes a 6.90 60 yard-dash and a 89 MPH OF arm. On the mound, presents a high-spin FB/CB combo with above-average movement. The fastball plays up to 85 MPH with sink.

5-foot-11, 160-pound athlete with an athletic, deceptive delivery. Works from a side 3/4 slot with a longer arm action. Fastball features high spin and lively life through the zone in the upper 80s T89 MPH, paired with two distinctly shaped breaking balls (2300+ RPM) and a heavy changeup, giving a polished 4-pitch profile. Upside arm in the class.
