Rising Stars PreSeason All-State: Quick Hits

Keaton Rice, C/3B, 2030, Carrollton
The barrel was potent in a strong round of BP for the future Carrollton backstop. Stands a physical 5-foot-11, 201-pounds with present strength throughout. Stays simple at the plate as he works from the ground-up and delivers a well-leveraged barrel through the zone with budding impact to match. Put together an average (85.8) and a max (91.0) exit velocities. Boasts a strong arm and finished with a C velo of 71 MPH.

Bryce Roberts, 3B/RHP, 2031, Calhoun
It was quite the showing from Roberts as he perpetually lived on the barrel from both sides of the plate. Strength to project in the athletic, broad-chested 5-foot-9, 157-pound frame. The switch-hitter shows minimal wasted effort from both sides as he stays well-balanced and leveraged in-zone with accuracy in the barrel to match. Finished the round with an average (80.9) and max (93.6) exits velocities along with posting a max distance of 350ft. Athletic actions in the dirt as well with some lateral quickness and budding arm strength (71 IF Velo).

Damian Lundy, C/3B, 2031, Fellowship Christian
Armed with strength and physicality in the box at 5-foot-10, 213-pounds. Stout lower half and works from the ground up as he loads into his back hip well. Creates good separation and shifts weight well through the zone. Some heaviness to the barrel and consistently peppered balls to the pull-side. Finished the round with an average (76.4) and a max (84.6) exit velocities.

Wilson Golden, OF/2B, 2030, Mount Pisgah
It was consistent line-drives in a quality round of BP for Golden. Budding strength throughout and stands a physical 5-foot-10, 159-pounds. Direct path to the ball with strong hands as he delivers a flat barrel through the zone while generating strength from the ground-up. Finished the round with an average (77.9) and a max (86.6) exit velocities.

Miguel Santana Gray, SS/RHP, 2031, Buford
It was a strong look on both sides of the ball for Santana Gray Sunday afternoon. Lean, athletic 5-foot-7, 144-pound frame with plenty more to project with added size. At the plate, the RHH utilizes a toe-tap load to stay on time and balanced through the zone. Creates good separation and leverages the barrel well to generate some carry to the pull-side. Finished the round with a max (85.5) exit velocity. Quality actions defensively as well with solid footwork and arm strength while boasting versatility in the dirt. Tied the event best with a 75 MPH infield velocity.

Bryson Sermons, 1B/RHP, 2031, Hahira
It was a great performance Sunday afternoon for Sermons as he boasted a well-rounded, two-way game. His BP was full of loud contact, reaching a 95EV and 339 Max Distance. He produces simple pop as he stands 6-foot-0, 165-pounds. He already has the athletic build with more to come as he matures physically. He ran a solid 7.56 60, showing a good first step and overall speed. He has a 3 pitch mix on the bump with a FB sitting in the 70s and his two breakers (CH & CB) in the mid to upper 60s range. As Bryson gets more comfortable in his large frame, he projects to be a strong corner IF with natural power.

Matthew Hawks, 1B/3B, 2030, Hillgrove
At 5-foot-8 and 195-pounds, Hawks produces raw power in his sturdy base. He had a very violent, yet controlled bat path through contact. He found the barrel many times in his round, producing an AVG EV just under 80 (79.3), and topped out at 87, showing consistent feel. He attacked downward on the ball, having a good FB to LD%. With plenty of room to grow, Hawks projects to be a quality middle of the order guy who can produce runs.

Eugene (Geno) McKinlay, 1B/LHP, Cherokee
“Geno” put together one of the top bullpen sessions of GA All-State Rising Stars, sporting a 4-pitch mix, all with movement. From an athletic delivery and 3/4 arm slot, McKinlay got his lower half into each pitch extremely well as his drive leg nearly drags on the dirt. His 2FB had good speed, touching 78.5 MPH (76.8-78.5 range) which was paired with a CT that had tight movement (71-72). He paired his two heaters with two breakers (CH & SL), both with good movement. The lanky build of McKinlay looks to be a wiry, high-waisted frame that continues to fill out.

Jett Lawrence, 1B/3B, 2030, Emanuel Prep.
The stout LHH had a loud showing as he produced impressive numbers all throughout the day. At 6-foot even and 175-pounds, Lawrence already possesses a physically imposing build with present strength. He showed quickness, running a 7.43-60 yard dash, great for a corner big man with a solid top speed of 18.5MPH. In the box is where he caught some eyes, finding multiple barrels and maxing out at 100EV even for 353FT. He displays a toe tap load for balance and timing, then explodes violently up and through the zone. His hands and bat snap to and through contact in an instant as he gets his whole body into the swing. With much more room to grow, Lawrence has plenty of time to gain confidence in his size as his game will no doubt grow alongside.

Knox Bauer, SS/RHP, 2030, Pope
Bauer put together a loud round of BP today. He’s athletic in the box with a good feel for the barrel and the ability to hit for power. Simple actions at the plate with a strong lower half and a direct path to the baseball. He showed the ability to drive the ball to all fields, posting a max exit velo of 87.1 MPH and average of 79.1 MPH while consistently barreling the baseball. The swing works, and there’s more in the tank as he continues to add strength. At SS, he displayed good instincts, solid range, and an above-average arm. On the mound, he pounded the strike zone with good command of the FB, topping out at 82 MPH. Athletic mover on both sides of the ball.

Lain Bujeker, SS/RHP, 2030, Blessed Trinity
Bujeker had a solid day, putting together a very sound round of BP. The barrel stays in the zone for a long time, and he looks to drive the ball the other way with some juice. He posted a max exit velo of 83.1 MPH and seemed very comfortable in the box with a clear plan of attack. In the field, he showed solid movements with an above-average arm. On the mound, he showed three pitches and showed the ability to locate each one while attacking the strike zone with confidence.

Mason Torre, 3B/1B, 2031, Allatoona
Torre put together a loud round of BP. Simple actions with a strong lower half and good bat speed through the zone. He creates good leverage with a slight uppercut and looks to drive the ball to the pull side for power. Behind the plate, he showed solid movements with very accurate throws and did a good job receiving and working behind the dish. He posted a max exit velo of 89.0 MPH, averaged 78.6 MPH, and recorded a max distance of 322 feet. Torre is going to be a force in the middle of a lineup.

Brody Browne, 3B/RHP, 2030, North Gwinnett
At 5-foot-9 and 175 pounds, Browne put together a solid round of BP. He has a short, compact swing that stays inside the baseball, with the ability to hit gap to gap with above-average power. His hands lead with the knob of the bat through the zone. He shows a strong lower half and good rotation from the upper half through contact. On the mound, he displayed three pitches with a good feel for the fastball and changeup. He is a good mover down the mound and repeats his delivery well. Max EV of 81.5 at the plate.

Abreyon Trotman, 2B/SS, 2031, Maynard Jackson
Trotman was impressive on Sunday, hitting a lot of line drives right back up the middle. A twitchy athlete with a good feel for the barrel, his hands explode through the zone. He shows a quiet lower half with really good bat speed in the zone. Displays good bat-to-ball skills with the ability to spray the ball all over the field. Posted a max exit velo of 84.9 MPH. He ran a 7.62 in the 60 and showed athleticism with good range across the infield. He does a good job preparing and takes the right angles to the baseball getting the ball out quickly.

Mark Sanders, INF, 2030, Buford
Mark Sanders put together a strong round of BP, showing promising tools from both sides of the plate. Standing at 5-foot-11, 175 pounds, Sanders already has impressive size for his age and does a nice job finding the barrel as a switch hitter, leveraging his frame and using his lower half well to generate power. He posted a max exit velocity of 84.4 mph, an encouraging number at this stage, and it will be exciting to watch how he continues to grow physically and sharpen his overall skill set over time.

Rocco Slater, C/1B, 2031, Wesleyan
Rocco Slater turned in a strong overall performance at the Preseason All-State event, highlighted by an impressive round of BP where he consistently found the barrel and posted a max exit velocity of 84.1 mph. He does a nice job creating lift through contact with an upward swing path, allowing the ball to carry off the bat. At 5-foot-8, 153 pounds, there is encouraging upside in the frame, and as he continues to grow and add strength, the tools should continue trending upward.

Hunter Lemoine, C/1B, 2030, Sequoyah
At 5-foot-9, 187 pounds, Lemoine is a physical presence in the box and put together an impressive round of BP, showcasing an explosive barrel working through the zone with present strength at contact. He posted an 88.1 mph max exit velocity and drove balls as far as 323 feet, clearly flashing his power potential. Behind the plate, he showed the ability to get the ball out quickly and did a solid job blocking, demonstrating reliability defensively. With his strength and power profile, he could develop into a significant offensive piece for Sequoyah in the coming years.
