2026 NY Preseason ID: Central: Quick Hits

On Monday, February 16th, the Prep Baseball New York staff hosted the 2026 NY Preseason ID: Central at Pine Grove in Camillus, NY. Around 40 players made it out to this event, providing us with updated looks and a new list of players to follow in New York this upcoming spring.

We begin our post-event content today with our quick hits from the event, highlighting some of the notable players from the day and their numbers.

Position Players

+ 1B Jacoby Mapes (Deposit Central School, 2027):
Strong, physical 6-foot-1, 225-pound left-handed hitting first baseman with dynamic power potential and middle-of-the-order upside at the plate. In the round of BP, Mapes recorded the second best max EV of the event at 99.6 mph, as well as an event best 93.6 average EV and 392’ max distance. The junior had arguably the loudest BP round of the day.

+ C Ben Hopperstad-Bartlett (Watertown, 2027):
The backstop is a polished defender with quick, clean catch-and-release abilities. Arm plays strong and accurately with carry through the target. Flashed a 2.03-2.08 pop time range and tossed 76 mph from the crouch. At the plate, shows an athletic, efficient swing with pop in the bat, peaked at 92 mph EV with an average of 83 mph and max distance of 324’.

+ OF Dalton Loguidice (Liverpool, 2028):
Currently ranked No. 19 in the state’s 2028 class, Loguidice is a high-level athlete with tools across the board. The sophomore ran an event best 6.88 60-yard dash and led the event with a 88 mph OF velocity and tied for the best INF velocity at 85 mph. In the round of BP, topped at 96 mph EV with an average of 90.5 and had a max distance of 367’.

Two-Way Players

+ RHP/1B Gerry Thibault (Cicero-North Syracuse, 2028):
Thibault is an imposing 6-foot-5, 265-pound two-way prospect in the 2028 class, the right-hander projects on the mound with a three pitch mix, including a fastball up to 86.2 mph with sink, the arm strength is evident for the sophomore. At the plate, the RHH profiles as a middle-of-the-order power bat. In BP, flashed EVs up to 97 mph and some impressive bat speed, averaging 70.3 mph. Defensively, tossed 83 mph across the infield.

+ RHP/OF Mason Trendowski (CBA-Syracuse, 2028):
Athletic 6-foot-2, 193-pound frame with present two-way ability. On the mound, shows a high-ceiling arm, running the fastball up to 86 mph and pairing it with a 2500 rpm slider with swing-and-miss potential. At the plate, the EV peaked at 98 mph with some bat speed, averaging 72 mph. Defensively, tossed 87 mph from the outfield and clocked a 7.10 60-yard dash.

+ C/RHP Griffin Durant (Shaker, 2028):
Currently ranked No. 21 in the state;s 2028 class, Durant shows a physical presence behind the plate with a quality catch-and-release and power at the plate. Led the event with a max EV of 100.2 mph and averaged 89 mph. Launched balls up to 358’ with evident bat speed, averaging 72.5 mph. Adds value as a two-way prospect, featuring a heavy fastball up to 81 mph and feel for secondary.

Pitchers

+ RHP Chace Bearup (Indian River, 2027):
Measuring 5-foot-8, 163-pounds Bearup showed a live arm with a full four-pitch arsenal, featuring a fastball up to 85 mph, with some sink, anchored by a 2300+ rpm sweeping slider that generates lateral movement and swing-and-miss potential. The Changeup sits in the low to mod-70s with sink and flashed a tight spinning cutter in the low 70s.
