2026 NY Preseason ID: Downstate: Quick Hits

On Thursday, February 19th, the Prep Baseball New York staff hosted the 2026 NY Preseason ID: Downstate at Top Level Sports in Mahopac, NY. Around 30 players made it out to this event, providing us with updated looks and a new list of players to follow in New York this upcoming spring.
We begin our post-event content today with our quick hits from the event, highlighting some of the notable players from the day and their numbers.

Position Players
+ C Xander D’Onofrio (Briarcliff, 2027):
Currently ranked No. 40 in the state’s junior class, the #PBFG25 alum showed to be a strong 6-foot-2, 215-pound backstop with big-time power potential. Advanced Blast metrics, 74 mph bat speed average, 24 mph hand speed average and average of 18g rotational acceleration translate to game-ready pop, which peaked at 103 MPH EV in the event. Athletic behind the dish with clean footwork and a strong arm up to 78 MPH, consistently on the bag at 2B with a 2.01-2.09 pop time range.

+ 1B Noah Goodrich (Salisbury, 2028):
Currently ranked No. 43 in the state’s sophomore class, Goodrich is a physical 6-foot-2, 215-pound 1B with a fluid left-handed stroke. Quick to contact with bat speed up to 78 MPH, averaged 73 MPH flashing easy strength and emerging power. Peak exit velocity of 101 MPH with an average of 92 MPH. Flashes athleticism and arm strength (81 MPH) to handle multiple positions
2028 1B/3B Noah Goodrich (Salisbury School, CT ); 6-2, 217 lbs.

+ OF Christopher Race (Housatonic Valley Regional, 2027):
Currently ranked No. 195 in the state’s 2027 class. Race is an athletic 5-foot-11, 195-pound primary OF with notable offseason jumps—EV now T101 MPH (+10) and arm strength up to 88 MPH (+7). Trending up with breakout potential this spring.

+ OF Jack Porter (Horace Greeley, 2027):
Currently ranked No. 191 in the state’s junior class, Porter showed to be an athletic 6-foot, 185-pound primary outfielder showing consistent gains. Swing stays balanced and generates easy power, up to 100 MPH EV with advanced Blast metrics, 77 MPH avg. bat speed, 22 mph average hand speed, indicating next-level dynamic power. Poised for a breakout spring campaign.

+ 3B/OF Troy Vazquez (Brewster (CT), 2027):
Currently ranked No. 71 in the state’s 2027 class, Vazquez is a Strong 5-foot-8, 190-pound LHH with mid-70s bat speed and power to the gaps, peaked at 101 MPH EV, averaged 90 MPH EV. Shows in-game adjustability and all-fields approach. Defensive versatility adds value across INF/OF, tossed 82 MPH from the infield last week.

Two-Way Players
+ RHP/SS Luke Viviano (Clarkstown South, 2027):
Athletic 5-foot-11, 187-pound frame that projects as a two-way prospect. Swing shows feel for the barrel (86% OPE) with consistent line drives, peaked at 90 mph EV with an average of 85 mph. Defensively, tossed 86 mph across the diamond. On the mound, projects with an upside fastball up to 86 MPH and 17″ of arm-side run. Flashed a tight spinning CB and a low spin CH with armside run.
+ 3B/RHP Sam Brooks (Kennedy Catholic, 2027):
6-foot-1, 206-pound multi-sport athlete (Tight End) showing two-way potential. Offensively, quick swing with 23g Rot Acc and 78% on-plane eff produces 95 MPH peak EV with more to come. On the mound, a high-spin fastball/slider combo features a 2500 RPM sweeping SL with up to 19″ HM and flashes feel for a heavy, downer CH, giving him a well-rounded two-way profile.
