2026 Opterra Solutions Invitational Scout Blogs Part 2
March 9, 2026
The Opterra Solutions Invitational showcased some of the top teams and talent from across the state, with Prep Baseball was on-site to cover the action throughout the weekend.
The tournament kicked off on Wednesday and concluded on Saturday.
Below are notes and videos highlighting standout performances from each team in the event.

Sergio Melendez 2026, SS, Blythewood
Melendez has an athletic frame at 5’11” 175 lbs. At the plate Melendez has a wide setup with rhythmic hands. His short level path through the zone allows him to compete against velocity and it showed on opening day. In his first at bat he hit a fastball hard and back up the middle to lead off the season and set the tone for the rest of the lineup. In the field Melendez has a quick first step and good tendencies that give him above average range at the SS position.

Cooper Penfield 2027, SS, Blythewood
Penfield has a lean athletic frame at 5’10” 152 lbs with room to fill out. At the plate, Penfield showed off his power early, keeping his weight on the backfoot during his setup and creating leverage on impact for a 2-R HR off of hospitality building out in RF. In the field, he stays down on the ball with sure hands and has above average arm strength with short action.
