The Prep Baseball California High School Hitter of the Week highlights the best individual pitching performance for a Louisiana high school player from the previous week.  Each week, high school coaches are emailed and asked to send in their nominees for Pitcher and Player of the Week.  If you wish to nominate someone for Player or Pitcher of the Week, please be sure to fill out this form before noon on Mondays. 

While there can only be one pitcher and player of the week, our Diamond Notes, which are released every Wednesday, are intended to shine a spotlight on other noteworthy performances from the previous week.

WEEK 3 HITTER OF THE WEEK

+ 2026 OF Ezekiel Lara - Mater Dei High School

The Georgia Tech signee traveled to Texas with his Mater Dei High School team for an out-of-state tournament and brought the heat with his LH bat.

In a dominant performance over the course of three games with two wins for the Monarchs, Lara posted an eye-popping .636 average (7-11). That alone would have put him in the mix for the award, but diving deeper into the numbers, Lara was not only a hit-collecting force, but also did damage with his hits. Slugging 1.364 with a 2.030 OPS for the week, the future Georgia Tech OF had 10 RBIs, scored two runs, tripled, and homered with three doubles in those three games. 

It was an electric week in the Texas heat for the two-time Prep Baseball California Future Games alumni.

We salute senior Ezekiel Lara of Mater Dei High School for earning the Prep Baseball California Hitter of the Week.
