Jesuit left no doubt in the 2026 FHSAA Class 4A State Championship. After rolling past Clay in the semifinals behind Kaden Waechter’s nine-strikeout gem, the Tigers came back Wednesday and delivered a complete team performance. Backed by Wilson Andersen’s 12-strikeout masterpiece on the mound and Griffin Boesen’s four-RBI afternoon at the plate, Jesuit was the class of the 4A field from wire to wire.

Semifinal: Jesuit 5, Clay 2

Kaden Waechter was untouchable Tuesday morning against Clay, throwing a complete game while allowing just one earned run on three hits. The right-hander struck out nine without issuing a single walk and gave the Jesuit offense all the room it needed to work.

Jesuit set the tone early, putting up two runs in the first inning on a Griffin Boesen double to left and a Bryce Besece single to center, each plating a run. Mason Greco’s sacrifice fly in the second pushed it to 3-0, and Boesen added a run-scoring groundout in the third to stretch the lead to four. Boesen finished 2-for-3 with three RBI to lead the Tigers, and Brady Marshall went 2-for-3 as well.

Clay had little answer for Waechter beyond some late fight. The Blue Devils scored a run in the fourth on Rylan McMahan’s RBI and added another in the seventh, but never seriously threatened. McMahan started on the mound, allowing five runs over five innings.

Semifinal: Bishop Moore 1, American Heritage 0 (11 innings)

The other semifinal on Tuesday was one of the most extraordinary pitching duels of the entire state tournament. Eleven innings, one run, and a combined 24 strikeouts between the two staffs, with a two-hour rain delay after the first inning. Bishop Moore walked it off in the bottom of the eleventh when Hayden Ramos was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in the winning run, completing a 1-0 victory over American Heritage.

JT Costello was the story for Bishop Moore, pitching 7.1 innings of scoreless baseball, allowing just two hits while striking out nine and walking three on 105 pitches. Emmett Whalen came on in relief, retiring ten of thirteen batters over 3.2 innings with three more strikeouts and no runs allowed. On the other side, Mason McGeehan delivered one of the most dominant relief outings of the tournament: eight full innings, one hit allowed, 11 strikeouts, and three walks. He kept Bishop Moore off the board inning after inning.

American Heritage generated just three hits on the day from Brandon Ingram, Santiago Montiel, and Davin Petrucci. Bishop Moore was equally stifled offensively, finishing with three hits from Danny Garcia, Hayden Ramos, and Nolan Borgia.

State Championship: Jesuit 9, Bishop Moore 0

If Bishop Moore hoped their eleven-inning semifinal grind had built momentum heading into Wednesday’s championship, Wilson Andersen dismantled that notion in a hurry. The Jesuit right-hander was simply unhittable, throwing 6.2 shutout innings with 12 strikeouts and just two walks on 100 pitches. He allowed only one hit through six innings before Ben Burke closed out the final two outs. Jesuit’s pitching staff combined to hold Bishop Moore to two hits and struck out 13.

Jesuit attacked from the jump. Griffin Boesen singled to left in the first and Bryce Besece followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0 before Bishop Moore could blink. The Tigers piled on with three more in the second with Andersen and Boesen each delivering RBI singles, and added a run in the fourth before breaking the game open with three more in the sixth to reach the final margin of nine. Boesen was the offensive engine once again, going 2-for-4 with a game-high four RBI.

Jesuit are your 2026 FHSAA Class 4A State Champions.
