CHSAA Players of the Week: April 27 - May 2

Caleb Dameron
Prep Baseball Colorado Staff

Each week during the high school season, the Prep Baseball Colorado staff will be announcing our 'Player of the Week' award for that particular week. Numerous players from across the state continue to perform and put up numbers on a week-to-week basis, though only one athlete can take home the 'hitter' or 'pitcher' award each week. Below you'll see which players have earned our 'Player of the Week' honors this spring season.

NOTE: These submissions were provided from high school coaches and others from around our state. If you are a interested in nominating a player, please contact Marc Wagner ([email protected]).

CHSAA PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: APRIL 27 - MAY 2

PITCHER OF THE WEEK:

Hunter Vitello RHP / Denver South, CO / 2027

Vitello was an easy choice for ‘Pitcher of the Week’ after shoving for a complete-game 7 innings with 15 (!) strikeouts, zero walks, zero earned runs, and just 4 hits allowed against a ranked Vista Peak team. The uncommitted junior was in complete control from the start, and our Prep Baseball scouting staff was on hand for the impressive outing. Vitello had his fastball up to 91 mph early and mixed in a strong curveball/slider combo to right-handers, keeping them off balance with awkward takes and swings. Lefties saw a good dose of a deceptive changeup, which he used both for whiffs and in the zone to keep hitters off his fastball. Overall, Vitello’s advanced feel for his full arsenal and ability to create multiple shapes stand out, along with his increasing velocity on the mound at 6'4''. The Denver South right-hander is certainly a name to know for college programs, as his numbers now sit at 83 strikeouts across 42.2 innings with just 10 walks and a 2.30 ERA. Check out video from Vitello’s electric start below:

HITTER OF THE WEEK:

Peter Worth C / 1B / Northfield, CO / 2026

Worth had one of the more memorable games at the plate this spring, hitting for the cycle against Longmont last week. The senior did it in order; single, double, triple, before ending the game in run-rule, walk-off fashion with a 2-run homer to seal a 13–3 win for the Nighthawks. Overall on the week, Worth went 7-for-12 with 4 extra-base hits and 4 RBI. He’s now hitting .464 with 8 doubles, 4 home runs, 2 triples, 12 stolen bases, and a 1.415 OPS across 67 plate appearances in 2026.

HONORABLE MENTIONS: Will Busby, Keaton Maiorana, Colten Smith
