1A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

The 1A State Finals took place Saturday afternoon between Tremont and Putnam County.

Tremont jumped on the board early in the first inning, bringing in three runs. The inning was highlighted by an RBI double from 3B Andrew Dawson (2026; Valpairso commit) and an RBI single from LF Hunter Smith (2026; Monmouth).

The Turks would continue to score in the second inning as 2B Jack Oyer (2028) connected on a two-run single.

The Turks would have bases loaded in the second inning with one out when a weather delay paused the game for about an hour.

Tremont would get right back to work as CF Josh Papenhause (2026) and Smith each connected on RBI singles with P Chase Rhodes (2026; John A Logan) driving in a run on a sac fly.

Rhodes started on the mound and shined as he struck out three batters through two while allowing only two runners on base before the weather delay shortened his day.

1B Justin Muselman (2026) would headline a two-run third inning for the Turks as he connected on a sac fly.

Smith and Griffin Meeker (2026; Heartland CC) each had great outings as they both kept the shutout intact. Smith struck out two through innings, and Meeker struck out the side in his inning of work.

The Turks would hold on to the 10-0 lead to march their way to the 1A First Place Trophy in five innings.

THIRD PLACE GAME
