Rising Stars on the Radar: 2029 SS/RHP McCoy Nye (Manheim Central)

Nathan Goranson
Northeast Scout

The Prep Baseball Junior Future Games alum was a stand out player at Lakepoint last summer and continues to be a stand out player every time our staff gets to see Nye perform. The 5-foot-11, 165-pound two-way prospect produced loud metrics with the bat, on the mound, and athletically.

Offensively, Nye flashed barrel awareness and developing strength this winter. His barrel covers the length of the zone with a positive attack angle that matches the plane of the pitch, creating a natural lift on the baseball. He maintains good posture and repeatability within his swing while producing a 92 mph exit velocity and max distance of 319 feet.

On the mound, he showcased one of the stronger arms we saw the entire preseason circuit in the Pennsylvania freshman class. His fastball peaks at 85 mph and sits in the 83-84 mph range with a spin rate just north of 2,300 rpm. He showcased a big breaking curveball with a spin rate of 2,450 rpm and over -19 inches of horizontal movement.

Overall, Nye is a top level athlete with a 6.89 sixty-yard dash, a highly productive offensive talent, intriguing arm talent from the mound and a player with an elite work ethic. Will be a must see player in the Northeast for years to come.
