2026 Kansas Summer ID/Rising Stars ID: Quick Hits

On Tuesday, July 7th, the Prep Baseball Kansas staff traveled to Hoglund Ballpark on the campus of the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS to host the annual Kansas Summer ID/Rising Stars ID. This event was open for 2027-2031 class members, and featured 35 players from the area.

All of our events offer players the opportunity to update their recruiting resume and showcase their talents in front of our staff. We also use these events as identifiers for future invite-only events, like the Preseason All-State, our summer Top Prospect Games, and the prestigious Prep Baseball Future Games that takes place at the tail end of the summer. Shortly after the event, our staff compiled several of the day’s stat leaders inside our traditional ‘Stat Story’, which you can find HERE. 

Today, after combing through our notes from the day, we’ve compiled some of the event’s standouts below within these ‘Quick Hits’.

KANSAS FOLLOWS

OF/RHP Cole Burkin (Blue Valley Southwest, 2029) put together a standout two-way performance at Tuesday's Kansas Summer ID. The 6-foot, 175-pound soon to be sophomore showed high-level bat strength for his age, averaging 90.9 mph per batted ball and peaking at 94.9 mph with a max distance of 353 feet. His Blast metrics further backed up his offensive profile, posting a 21.0 mph max hand speed and 69.8 mph max bat speed. Hi outfield defense came with an 78 mph throw, and he carried that arm strength over to the mound by topping his fastball at 83.2 mph while mixing a 66-68 mph curveball and a 73-74 mph changeup.

Cole Burkin

OF/RHP Cooper Doll (Blue Valley North, 2030) flashed projectable two-way tools during his workout on Tuesday. Standing at a lean 6-foot-1, 160 pounds, Doll generated quality bat speed (70.6 mph peak) and hand speed (21.8 mph peak), reaching a 90.4 mph max exit velocity at the plate. Defensively, he displayed an accurate arm from the outfield that reached 80 mph. On the mound, the right-hander ran his fastball up to 78.8 mph while showing feel for a 57-63 mph curveball and 62-65 mph changeup.

C/INF Carter Dreiling (Great Bend, 2029) showcased an strong suite of metrics on both sides of the ball in his trip to Lawrence. A projectable 6-foot-1, 165-pound athlete with room to continue adding size and strength, Dreiling produced loud contact in BP, topping out with a 96.1 mph exit velocity and a 361-foot max distance. Blast Motion metrics backed up his bat speed at 76.5 mph alongside a 22.2 mph hand speed and 22.6 G rotational acceleration. Across the infield, his arm reached 83 mph, while behind the dish he registered pop times in the 2.17-2.27 range with a 71 mph throw from the chute.

OF Colton Drown (De Soto, 2028) brought a physical presence to the plate at the Kansas Summer ID. Built with strength at 6-foot, 220 pounds, the left-handed hitter repeatedly made hard contact to the pull side, recording a 67% hard-hit rate, a 94.7 mph peak exit velocity, and a max distance of 341 feet. His rotational acceleration peaked at 14.8 G with a 70.2 mph bat speed, pointing toward continuing power output as he continues to refine his game.

INF Kaden Eck (Cheney, 2027) turned in one of the most consistent offensive rounds of the day. Physical at 6-foot, 179 pounds, Eck averaged 91.3 mph per batted ball with a peak exit velocity of 96.5 mph and a 67% hard-hit rate. Advanced Blast Motion metrics underscored his stroke, featuring a 24.3 mph hand speed, 75.0 mph bat speed, and an advanced 29.4 G max rotational acceleration. Defensively, Eck showcased arm strength across the diamond, pumping an 83 mph throw across the infield.

Kaden Eck

INF/RHP Carter Hutfles (Jefferson West, 2030) put together an impressive two-way showcase, demonstrating advanced polish across the board for an incoming freshman. Standing at a projectable 5-foot-10, 149 pounds, Hutfles produced big offensive metrics for his class, barreling his best ball at 94.6 mph with an 86.5 mph average exit velocity and a peak distance of 348 feet. Blast Motion data backed up his barrel speed, recording a 74.9 mph top bat speed. Defensively, he topped out at 80 mph across the dirt before hopping on the mound, where the right-hander worked his fastball at 84-85 mph (T85.5 mph) with 2,172 RPM spin, pairing it with a high-spin curveball at 68-70 mph (T2,512 RPM) and a 66-71 mph changeup. Hutfles will be a name to watch closely in the coming years.

Carter Hutfles

INF Collin Montgomery (Sabetha, 2028) brings an intriguing, long-levered frame to the diamond at a physical 6-foot-3, 185 pounds. The left-handed hitter showed solid feel for the barrel during his BP round, peaking at an 89.3 mph exit velocity with a max distance of 315 feet. Montgomery complemented his offensive look with steady actions on the infield, where his arm topped out at 83 mph across the diamond.

INF Henry Rittel (St. Thomas Aquinas, 2028) turned in a highly consistent offensive round at the Kansas Summer ID. A projectable 6-foot-2, 182-pound athlete, Rittel flashed noticeable bat strength, averaging 90.9 mph per batted ball while peaking at 94.4 mph and driving his furthest ball 354 feet. Blast metrics emphasized his raw power with a 72.8 mph max bat speed and 21 G max rotational acceleration, while his defensive workout produced an 82 mph throw across the infield.

Henry Rittel

INF/RHP Julian Roche (Ell-Saline, 2027) showcased physical tools on both sides of the ball in this look. Built at a strong 6-foot-1, 198 pounds, Roche consistently found the barrel during his BP round, averaging 86.8 mph with a peak exit velocity of 92.7 mph and a maximum distance of 346 feet. His Blast metrics were equally loud, highlighted by a 79.7 mph peak bat speed and a 22.1 mph hand speed. On the infield, he fired an 83 mph strike across the diamond before hopping on the mound to spin a four-pitch mix, featuring an 80-81 mph fastball alongside a sharp, high-spin slider (T2,550 RPM) at 71-74 mph, a curveball at 70-71 mph (2,434 RPM), and a 76-79 mph changeup.

1B Ike Tramp (Sabetha, 2027) generated some of the rawest power of the day from a towering 6-foot-4, 196-pound frame. The right-handed hitter hammered one of the event's top exit velocities, piercing the triple-digit threshold at 100.2 mph while averaging 87.9 mph per barrel. Tramp’s explosive hand speed (24.6 mph peak) and bat speed (78.3 mph peak) point toward big middle of the order run-producing upside as he continues to refine his stroke.

MISSOURI FOLLOWS

LHP Jamie Billups (Blue Springs South, 2027) brings a towering presence to the mound at 6-foot-6, 202 pounds. The southpaw showed intrigue at the Kansas Summer ID, working his fastball in the 85-87 mph range and topping out at 88 mph. Billups complemented the heater with a two-breaking-ball mix, spinning a 74-76 mph slider alongside a 67-71 mph curveball that gives hitters a distinct secondary look along with splitter that he turned to frequently at 73-76 mph. As he continues to master his levers, his upside on the bump remains sky-high.

Jamie Billups

RHP Cole Hass (St. Joseph Central, 2027) popped as one of the most projectable arms in attendance thanks to an imposing 6-foot-7, 205-pound frame. The right-hander filled up the zone with a lively 86-87 mph fastball that peaked at 88 mph with spin rates reaching up to 2,361 RPM. Hass demonstrated feel for a full three-pitch repertoire, mixing in a tight 75-77 mph slider along with a 79-80 mph changeup to keep hitters off-balance. 

RHP Robby Teasdale (Rockhurst, 2028) turned in a clean, repeatable outing behind a strong 6-foot-1, 186-pound build in Tuesday's trip to Lawrence. The right-hander operated with control, sitting 81-82 mph with his fastball and topping out at 83 mph. Teasdale rounded out his mix by showing feel for a 71-73 mph slider and a 72-73 mph changeup, projecting well as he continues to add strength.
