The 2026 FHSAA Class 3A State Baseball Championship came down to a hard-fought Thursday evening finale, with South Walton surviving a furious North Broward Prep comeback attempt to win 6-5 and take home the state title. The Seahawks advanced through the bracket on the strength of dominant pitching, first from Coleman Borthwick in the semifinals and then from a bullpen that had to hold on for dear life in the championship game.

Semifinal: South Walton 6, Miami Springs 2

Coleman Borthwick was the story on Wednesday afternoon, striking out 11 batters over five innings to power South Walton past Miami Springs, 6-2. Borthwick allowed just one earned run on seven hits, walking two in a performance that set the tone for the Seahawks’ tournament run. Parker Granse came on in relief and tossed two scoreless frames to close it out, adding four more strikeouts and completing a combined effort that held Miami Springs to two runs on the day.

South Walton got on the board in the second inning when Hudson Quinn singled to plate a run, and the Seahawks kept the pressure on throughout. Nathan Whitney led the offense with two RBI, and Declan Fowler, Jace Cunningham, and Quinn each drove in a run as well.

Miami Springs finished with nine hits but stranded too many and couldn’t piece together the big inning they needed. Adrian Henriquez took the loss, going five and a third innings and allowing six runs. Taylor Ancheta and Eisler Piloto each drove in a run for the Golden Hawks.

Semifinal: North Broward Prep 4, South Sumter 0

Jack Rostock was every bit as impressive on the other side of the bracket Wednesday evening, throwing a complete-game shutout as North Broward Prep blanked South Sumter, 4-0. Rostock went all seven innings, allowing just four hits while walking none and striking out three on 80 pitches.

North Broward Prep spread the scoring across the first three innings to build their cushion. Julian Rodriguez plated a run in the first with a single, Gabriel Coupet extended the lead with a two-bagger in the second, and Nico Di Bella’s lineout accounted for a third run. The Eagles added one more in the fifth to reach the final margin. Alejandro Cabral led the offense with a 2-for-3 night featuring two doubles.

South Sumter collected four hits but never threatened to score, with Jackson Gill absorbing the loss over five innings of work.

State Championship: South Walton 6, North Broward Prep 5

Thursday’s championship was a tale of two halves. South Walton built a commanding lead through three innings and looked every bit the part of a state champion, only to spend the final frames desperately trying to hold off a relentless North Broward Prep rally. In the end, the Seahawks did just enough, securing a 6-5 win and the Class 3A state title.

South Walton erupted for four runs in the bottom of the third to take control of the game. Nathan Whitney singled to left, Declan Fowler singled to right, Carter Hawk was hit by a pitch, and Jace Cunningham grounded out to bring home multiple runs. Two more crossed in the fourth to push the advantage to 6-0, and starter Denton Lord cruised through the early innings with the comfortable cushion behind him.

North Broward Prep refused to fold. The Eagles pecked away inning by inning. Alex Smith was the catalyst for the comeback, going 2-for-2 with a double, a triple, and two runs scored. Marcus Hall chipped in two hits and an RBI.

In the seventh, North Broward put up three runs to tie the game. Gabriel Coupet delivered a two-RBI single followed by a game-tying single from Caden Coleman.

Lord finished six innings of work, surrendering five earned runs on nine hits before Parker Granse came on to close out the championship. Granse retired the final three batters in order, striking out two and walking one.

It all came down to the wire in the bottom of the seventh. Hudson Quinn came up with the bases loaded and executed a perfect suicide squeeze bunt to bring in the game-winning run and claim the State Championship for South Walton.
