Each week, our staff updates the Power 25 and provides key talking points from last week's games. This week, the top three remain the same as we see plenty of movement throughout the top ten and three new teams enter the top 25.
Talking Points
- Top three hold their ground. MSJ, Spalding, and Calvert Hall all sweep their weeks heading into the final week of the regular season. Spalding has a tough matchup with John Carroll, as MSJ and Calvert Hall battle eachother for a shot at the number one seed. If Spalding sweeps JC, the discussion for the number one spot may be the toughest it has been all spring long.
- Three SMAC teams all within four spots. Chopticon and Huntingtown went undefeated last week, as La Plata dropped a game. Leonardtown is lurking with a big week ahead against Chopticon and Huntingtown.
- Two new teams enter the Top 25. DeMatha Catholic and Northwest are coming off huge weeks last week and see themselves inside the Top 25.
Winners
- Oakdale jumps to number four, the highest the Bears have been ranked all spring long after wins over North Hagerstown twice, Frederick, and South Hagerstown.
- Sherwood jumps inside the top five for the first time since the preseason following wins over Magruder and Good Counsel.
- Broadneck jumps two spots following an undefeated week, including a huge win over Severna Park.
- Stephen Decatur remains undefeated and jumps inside the top ten for the first time this spring.
- Damascus knocks off the previously ranked number four team in Walter Johnson, and finish their week unbeaten. They see a four-spot increase.
- DeMatha Catholic and Northwest enter the Power 25 after huge weeks, as DeMatha knocked off Good Counsel and Northwest had an undefeated week including a big win over Bethesda-Chevy Chase.
Seeking Improvement
- Walter Johnson sees a big dip, as they dropped a game to Damascus and is currently losing a suspended game against Walt Whitman.
- Georgetown Prep lost a game to Bullis last week, and enter this week with a huge two-game set against Landon.
- Good Counsel went 1-2 last week after losses to DeMatha and Sherwood. The Falcons have a big one with Bishop O'Connell on Tuesday before they finish with Riverdale Baptist on Wednesday.
- Severna Park finished their week with a win over Old Mill, however dropped two games to Arundel and Broadneck.
