Throughout the VA/DC high school season, our staff travels far and wide to identify the best players in the Commonwealth. In additon to that, our staff delivers evaluations and video to assist players in their recruiting process. Every week our staff members provide notes and video in an assortment of scout blogs. Jordan Jones, the Virginia/DC Assistant Scouting Director, will be delivering his weekly scout blog on some of the players he saw during his travels.

East Rockingham
| |
Alex Jenkins SS / 2B / East Rockingham High, VA / 2026Jenkins was all over the diamond for East Rockingham, making an impact. He was an anchor at shortstop, making key plays to keep his team in the game. He also had one of the lone hits of the night for East Rockingham. He jumped on a first pitch fastball and hit a hard line drive to right field for a single. He showed a good approach offensively and has the ability to use the whole field.

Hanover
|
Carter Alvis SS / 2B / Hanover High School, VA / 2029The energy and high motor that he plays with are what catches your attention. He brings intensity to the game that you can't teach. He is a competitor in the box and turned in multiple quality at-bats on the night. He made a couple plays at third on the night, displaying his defensive abilities. There is defensive versatility to his profile, and he has the ability to play any position in the infield. There is still more room to improve for the freshman, but the high end motor will always bring excitement to his game.

Grayson Reece SS / 2B / Hanover High, VA / 2026Reece has taken a big leadership role this spring, and he showed that late in the game for the Hawks on Friday. He led off the bottom of the sixth in a 1-0 game with a double to get the offense started. He would eventually come around to score to extend that tight lead. He showed offensive strides throughout the summer, and that has carried into this spring. He seems more confident in the box and can adjust to different situations. Defensively, he still brings that bounce and the high end defensive actions at shortstop.

King George
| |
Eli Truslow OF / LHP / King George High, VA / 2026Truslow turned in a quality start and gave his team a chance to win all night. He had to work around an error that let up a run early. The fastball and slider worked well off of each other for most of the night. The slider got swings and misses late in counts. The fastball was in the low eighties and had some natural run. There is plenty of room to add strength in hopes of a velocity jump.

Mills Godwin
| |
Jacob Babcock SS / RHP / Godwin High, VA / 2027It was a two-hit night for the 2025 Future Games alum as he continues to show his offensive profile. He has controlled aggression by recognizing pitches out of the zone and attacking pitches in the zone. There is whip and bat speed through the zone, and that was on display in his at-bats. He consistently made plays at third base on the night with good pocket presence and made quick exchanges. His hit tool and added impact will be key as a run producer for this offense this spring.
|
Riverbend
| |
Logan Carter OF / RHP / Riverbend High, VA / 2028There wasn’t anything to show in the box score, but Carter caught one of the loudest barrels on the night for a line out in one of his at bats. There is strength in the athletic frame that can flash impact at times. He shows a patient approach and shows a feel for the strike zone. Defensively it is above-average arm strength in the outfield and has the athleticism that gives him a chance to stick in center field long term. There are intriguing intangibles that make him an interesting follow for the rest of the spring into the summer.

| |
Joseph Pinto OF / RHP / Riverbend High, VA / 2029Pinto put together two quality at-bats and had some of the best swings of the night. He had a good two strike swing that resulted in a line out to left field. He followed that at bat up with a hard hit single into center that brought in a run. There is rhythm in the hands with a flat bat path that can spray line drives to all fields. It is a contact bat with bat to ball skills, but there is plenty of room to add future strength for the freshman.

Spotswood
|
Camden Blank SS / 2B / Spotswood, VA / 2026It was a quiet offensive night for Blank, but you still felt his presence on the field. He was sure-handed at shortstop, making play after play. He is confident in any play that he has to make and is smooth while doing it. The arm strength continues to get better as he showed the arm off on a few occasions. Offensively, he caught a barrel to center field, being aggressive early in the count.
|
| |
Tyler Howard 2B / RHP / Spotswood High, VA / 2028It was a dominant outing on the mound for Howard in a big game. He went seven shutout innings, only allowing two hits and striking out seven. He controlled the game, working with quick pace and mixing pitches. He worked the fastball up to 87, sitting in the 83-86 range. He created some uncomfortable swings with the changeup that he could land for a first pitch strike as well as a finisher with two strikes. The curveball was used later in the outing, but he dominated with the fastball and changeup combo. He throws with light intent, and there is plenty of room to add strength. When he makes that velocity jump, things could take off for him.
