Prep Baseball Illinois Pitcher of the Week: JD Farkas

By: Peter Hamot
Assistant Scouting Director, Illinois & Wisconsin

Left-hander JD Farkas (Hersey, 2028) is this week’s Pitcher of the Week after firing a complete game (five innings), no-hit shutout with seven strikeouts and just one walk - taking down a strong Stevenson club 3-0. The win is his first of his young career, as well as Hersey’s first in the 2026 season.

Currently ranked No. 34 in the state, Farkas has long been an in-game performer for our staff that attacks the zone with multiple pitches. We saw the fastball up to 86 mph this past winter while also showing his typical feel for a tight curveball and fading changeup. He’s a true starter profile with a deep arsenal, and he will be a dominant arm in the state for years to come. He’s also an intriguing two-way player with a compact, athletic left-handed swing with some power in the bat.

Scouting Report

2/15/26

LHP/OF JD Farkas (Hersey, 2028) stands in a strong and athletic 5-foot-8, 181-pound frame. He showed well during his bullpen where he showcased easy and athletic movement patterns on the mound with a long, clean arm path out of a ¾ slot. The polish of his arsenal impressed, starting with his fastball that worked 82-86 mph with arm-side action. He mixed in a curveball at 69-71 mph with 1/7 shape, and a change-up at 74-77 mph with slight fade. Farkas also showed to be an athletic left-handed hitter as well. Working from a loose, slightly uphill path, he generated hard elevated contact to the pull-side; peaking at 93.7 mph off the bat with a peak distance of 354 feet.
