Prep Baseball Louisiana: 2026 Diamond Notes (Week 8)

The Prep Baseball Louisiana Diamond Notes serves as an opportunity for our staff to highlight players, from across the state, that put up impressive performances on a given week, yet fell short of our Mizuno Player & Pitcher of the Week honors. 

NOTE: These submissions were provided from high school coaches from around the state.  If you are a coach and are interested in submitting a player for our weekly Player of the Week awards, please contact State Director Alex Armand at [email protected].  Our Diamond Notes will be released each Wednesday throughout the high school spring season.

 

Pitcher of the Week (Week 8)

Ayden Welch LHP / Lafayette Christian, LA / 2026

Welch has built a reputation for delivering in big moments throughout his high school career, and he came through once again for the Knights in Week 8.

Last Tuesday, in a district title matchup against Welsh, the Nunez Community College recruit got the start and was dominant—tossing a complete-game no-hitter with just one walk and 11 strikeouts on 100 pitches (68% strikes) to lead the Knights to a 6-0 victory.

A proven competitor with a track record of performing on the biggest stages, Welch continues to show he can rise to the occasion when it matters most.

 

 

Player of the Week (Week 8)

Chase Marcotte C / RHP / Destrehan, LA / 2027

Marcotte continues to be the unquestioned leader for the Wildcats, and he delivered in a major way for Destrehan last week. Across four games, he went 5-for-9 (.556) with two doubles, one RBI, and four walks, consistently setting the tone offensively.

His standout performance came last Thursday against St. Charles Catholic. The uncommitted junior was dominant on the mound, tossing eight shutout innings with seven strikeouts, and then provided the game’s biggest swing—delivering a walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning to secure a 1-0 victory for Destrehan.

A true two-way impact player, Marcotte continues to prove he’s one of the most valuable and competitive players in the state.

 

 

Other Notable Performances (Week 8)

Andrew Sharp SS / RHP / Captain Shreve, LA / 2026

The former Future Gamer and LSU-Eunice recruit went 5-for-10 (.500) with a home run, double, 4 runs batted in, and 7 runs scored last week, while also picking up a win on the mound after tossiong 6.2 innings allowing 1 earned run with 12 strikeouts.

Jackson Gaskin  Captain Shreve, LA

Gaskin went 9-for-13 (.692) with a double, triple, and 6 runs batted in for the Gators last week.

 

Hudson Jones Ascension Christian, LA / 2028

Jones hit .500 last week with a .727 on-base percentage which included a run batted in, stolen base, and 4 runs scored.

Ryan Reagan  Glenbrook, LA

Reagan hit at a .429 clip last week for the Apaches and had a walk-off hit to send Glenbrook to Game 3 of the District Championship. He also had 3 runs batted in and 2 stolen bases last week.

Carson Whitehead  Glenrbook, LA

Whitehead went 5-for-8 (.625) with 2 runs batted in and 4 walks last week for Glenbrook.

Corey Bourgeois 3B / RHP / Vandebilt Catholic, LA / 2028

Bourgeois hit at a .556 clip last week with 1 doubler, 4 runs batted in, and 2 runs scored.

Thomas Lecompte C / Vandebilt Catholic, LA / 2026

Lecompte finished last week with a .500 average and hit a home run, 2 doubles, and drove in 7 runs for the Terriers.

Brayden Watkins Glenbrook, LA / 2029

Watkins threw 7.2 innings last week against Cedar Creek and allowed 0 earned runs with 5 strikeouts.

Davis Powell  Glenbrook, LA

Powell threw 7 shutout innings last week for the Apaches. He closed Game 2 of the district championship and then threw 6.2 innings in Game 3 to help Glenbrook win the district title.

Luke Brignac Ascension Christian, LA / 2027

Brignac hit .875 with a .979 on-base percentage with a double, triple, and 10 runs batted in. He also earned a win with 5 innings pitched and 7 strikeouts.

Jordan Reynolds SS / Vandebilt Catholic, LA / 2029

Reynolds hit at a .600 clip last week for the Terriers with a home run, double, 2 runs batted in, and 2 runs scored.

Wyatt Dubois  St. Edmund Catholic, LA

Dubois went 3-for-6 (.500) with 2 home runs, 1 double, 3 runs batted in, and 4 runs scored for the Blue Jays last week.

Paxon Myers LHP / St. Edmund Catholic, LA / 2028

The sophomore southpaw threw 1 no-hit inning last week with 3 strikeouts and also went 3-for-9 at the plate with 3 runs batted in and 2 runs scored.

Landen Kennedy RHP / French Settlement, LA / 2028

Kennedy threw 10 innings last week and allowed only 1 run on 6 hits with 1 walk and 7 strikeouts.
