Notable Recaps from Thursday

Shelby County (6, 3) vs. Briarwood Christian (3, 2)
Shelby County swept a doubleheader over Briarwood Christian on Thursday, earning a pair of walk-off victories in dramatic fashion. In Game 1, the Wildcats trailed 3-2 in the seventh before Andrew Knight delivered the biggest swing of the day, launching a walk-off grand slam to give Shelby County a 6-3 win. Ryan Sipes was strong in relief, tossing 3.1 scoreless innings to earn the win. Game 2 was another tight battle, with Shelby County again walking it off in the seventh, this time on a sacrifice bunt from Knight to secure a 3-2 victory. Skylar Smith set the tone on the mound with six innings of two-run ball, and Hunter King earned the win in relief. Across both games, Knight proved to be the difference-maker, driving in five runs including the walk-off grand slam, as Shelby County edged Briarwood Christian twice to complete the sweep.

Faith Academy (6) vs. St. Paul's Episcopal (0)
Faith Academy rolled to a 6-0 win over St. Paul’s Episcopal on Thursday, powered by a dominant shutout performance on the mound. The Rams set the tone early, scoring in each of the first three innings, including a two-run home run from Riley Wilemon to extend the lead. Brodie Wilson was outstanding, throwing a complete game shutout while limiting St. Paul’s to just a few hits and controlling the game throughout. Offensively, Eli Quinley, Wilson, and Collin Hall each collected two hits, while Wilson and Wilemon led the way with two RBIs apiece.

Tuscaloosa County (6, 2) vs. Thompson (4, 1)
Tuscaloosa County and Thompson split a doubleheader on Thursday, with each team picking up a win in tightly contested matchups. In Game 1, Tuscaloosa County earned a 6-4 victory, using timely hitting and capitalizing on defensive miscues to take control. The Wildcats broke a tie in the fifth inning and added insurance late, while Dillon Dubose earned the win on the mound. Brayden Skinner, Brooks Mellown, and Wilson Patrick each drove in runs to pace the offense. Thompson responded in Game 2 with a 2-1 walk-off win in a pitcher’s duel. After Tuscaloosa County tied the game in the sixth on a double from Jashaun Moten, Thompson delivered the decisive blow in the seventh when Harper Quang lined a walk-off single.

Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa (2, 3) vs. Prattville (1, 0)
Hillcrest edged Prattville 2-1 on Thursday in a tightly contested pitcher’s duel, evening the area series before going on to win the Game 3 tiebreaker. The Patriots scratched across both of their runs in the third inning, using a single from DJ McGruder and a productive out from Wyatt Garner to take the lead. Mason Booth was strong on the mound, earning the win with six innings of one-run ball while striking out six and issuing no walks. Peyton Rackard closed it out with a scoreless inning in relief. McGruder and Garner each drove in a run for Hillcrest, while Prattville’s Sean Smith led his team with two hits.

Glenwood (2) vs. Lee-Scott Academy (0)
Glenwood edged Lee-Scott Academy 2-0 on Thursday behind a dominant performance on the mound. Favors was outstanding, tossing a complete-game shutout while striking out 10 and limiting Lee-Scott to minimal offense. The Gators broke through in the fifth inning on a solo home run from Judah, which proved to be the difference. Judah also led the offense with two hits, while Glenwood showed patience at the plate with six walks. The Gators backed their pitching with clean defense to secure the win.

Central-Phenix City (3) vs. Auburn (2)
Central edged Auburn 3-2 on Thursday in a tightly contested pitcher’s duel. The Red Devils struck early, scoring two runs in the first on an RBI single from Hayden Jones, and later added a key insurance run in the sixth on a solo home run from Leland Stanford. Auburn answered with solo home runs from Lawson Hare and Bryson Sheppard, but couldn’t fully close the gap. Tyler Caldwell earned the win, allowing two runs over 5.1 innings, while Logan Brock delivered 1.2 innings of scoreless relief to secure the save. Jones led Central with two RBIs, and the Red Devils applied pressure on the bases with four stolen bags in the win.
