James Wood 4, Sherando 1
James Wood and Sherando opened their 2026 seasons with a Northwestern District and Winchester rivalry showdown. Both teams scored in the first inning, but James Wood junior starter Parker Kerns would then settle in to fire 5 innings of 3-hit ball while the Colonels extended the lead in the third and fifth innings. Junior shortstop Owen Neal was 2-4 and junior centerfielder Tyler Prusik also had 2 hits as the two of them scored all 4 James Wood runs. Sophomore Nolan Landry struck out 3 in 2 scoreless innings to earn the save.

There were not a ton of highlights on the night. The Jaguars’ Daniel Nienaber (Mississippi State) and Raiders’ Chase Blumberg (VMI) stole the show for most of the night. Nienaber worked 3.2 scoreless and Blumberg threw a complete game shutout. The biggest difference on the night were the walks that the Raiders worked, putting them in scoring position multiple times. It was not until the bottom of the seventh when Atlee worked a one out hit by pitch, a bunt single, an intentional walk, and then a two out walk to force the only run of the night home.

#14 Liberty Christian 8, Fluvanna County 7
Thursday saw a back-and-forth battle in Lynchburg as #14 Liberty Christian Academy opened its season against Fluvanna. Fluvanna took the lead first in the opening inning with competitive at-bats, and a timely two-run single from ‘26 Kyle Harris. Liberty Christian wouldn't respond until the third, as ‘26 Bryce Torres (George Mason) delivered a two-run single and ‘27 Gray Craddock followed with an RBI single to take the lead. Fluvanna would then retake the lead in the seventh with a bases-loaded, one-out walk, but LCA responded by tying the game back up due to a fielder’s choice to send it to extras. After Griffin Bryant struck out the side in the eighth, Liberty Christian walked it off in extras, capitalizing on an error on the left side. Notably Liberty Christian freshman Joseph Hagy would end the day at the plate going 3-4 with a 2B, two 1B, and a walk.

The Dolphins were in control from start to finish and that started with the spectacular job on the mound from Copeland Smith and Noah Hummel (Navy). They threw a combined six no hit innings and dominated the opposing lineup. Offensively Colt Bradshaw led the way with a three hit night. Grayson Friske, Keaton Lane, and Chris Martinez (Washington & Lee) were also contributors to the offense on the night.

Riverbend 5, Eastern View 4
Early in the second inning on a rainy Friday night, Logan Carter (2028) doubled down the third-base line to get the scoring started. Riverbend totaled three runs in the bottom of the inning, taking early control of the game. A few minutes later iin the top of the third, Eastern View responded with RBI sacrifice flies from Tyler Caperton (2028) and Kaden Hunnicutt (2026), cutting the deficit to one. Back-and-forth action through the middle innings eventually saw the game tied at four late. Riverbend’s Ethan Clarke (2028) took the mound for the final three innings, striking out six and allowing zero earned runs while showcasing a changeup that kept hitters off balance. In the bottom of the seventh, with the game tied, Christian Reyes (2026) led off with a first-pitch double to right-center and later scored from third on a passed ball, giving Riverbend a 5–4 walk-off victory.

Aiden Skalski had a dominant outing for Ocean Lakes as he kicked his season off with a complete game shutout. Tre Hamilton (George Mason) and Connor Mais led the way with two hits a piece for the Dolphins. It wasn’t much offense for Hickory, but Matthew Kemick paced the offense with two hits on the night.

#5 Great Bridge 5, Maury 1
Pitching was the story for the first three innings of the game. Landen Hall and Cole Cinnamond were extremely strong early on, and Cinnamond carried that strong early start on through six innings of work. The Clemson commit had eleven strikeouts and allowed two hits on the night. Great Bridge went up 2-0 in the fourth inning on a wild pitch and then a Brandon Han sacrifice fly. Andrew Griffin (Norfolk State) extended the Wildcats' lead with a two-run homer in the fifth. Brody Comparto (George Mason) came on in the seventh and struck out three to bring the total number of K's for the Great Bridge staff to fourteen.
