Texas Diamond Notes: Week 4

The Texas Diamond Notes will focus on highlighting some of the top performances across the state based on nominations from high school coaches. We will highlight positions players, pitchers and two-way players every Tuesday evening of the high school season that had impressive weeks during their team's games.

A special thank you to all of the high school coaches for nominating their players.

WEEK 4 DIAMOND NOTES

+ Zion Ashford, 1B/OF (North Shore, 2026):

Ashford went 5-for-7 at the plate, collecting four singles, one triple, one RBI, and four runs scored while stealing two bases. For the season, he has maintained a .500 batting average.


+ Luke Bocanegra, SS (Frenship Memorial, 2028):

Over 12 plate appearances and nine at-bats, Bocanegra posted an .889 batting average with eight hits. His performance included two doubles, two triples, eight RBIs, and seven runs scored.


+ Landon Brown, Pitcher (Iowa Colony, 2026; Mississippi State commit):

Brown pitched seven innings, allowing just two hits and zero earned runs.


+ Danny Bustamante, Pitcher (Arlington, 2026):

Bustamante threw a five-inning perfect game, allowing zero runs, zero hits, and zero walks while striking out 12 batters.


+ Josh Debons, P (Prosper Walnut Grove, 2026):

Debons threw a seven-inning complete game shutout, striking out 10 batters and allowing zero runs, zero walks, and only one hit. This marked his second straight complete game shutout and his third consecutive complete game without allowing an earned run.


+ Jayden Fillyaw, MIF/P (Humble, 2027):

At the plate, Fillyaw posted a .500 batting average, a .667 on-base percentage, a 1.167 slugging percentage, and a 1.883 OPS. He hit a double and a home run specifically, a go-ahead three-run homer in the top of the ninth inning, while collecting a total of three RBI. On the mound, he pitched five innings, allowing one earned run on three hits, striking out four batters, and holding opponents to a .200 batting average against.


+ Cole Malouf, 1B (Edgewood, 2028):

Malouf went 16-for-26 at the plate without striking out a single time. He tallied 10 singles, two doubles, four home runs, 20 RBI, 12 runs scored, three walks, three hit-by-pitches, and three stolen bases.

*Malouf was named Week 4 Hitter of the Week*


+ Mason Matt, SS (Comfort, 2026):

Matt went 7-for-9, hitting three triples and scoring six runs. For the season, he is batting .634 after going 26-for-41 so far.


+ Will McIntire, P (Boyd, 2027; Texas A&M commit):

To open district play, McIntire threw a six-inning perfect game. He completely shut down the opposition, allowing zero hits and zero walks while striking out 15 batters.

*McIntire was named Week 4 Pitcher of the Week*


+ Jancarlos Ortiz, OF (Atascocita, 2027):

Ortiz recorded a .444 batting average and a 1.778 OPS by going 4-for-9 at the plate. His four hits consisted of two doubles and two home runs, and he contributed five RBI and five runs scored.
