2026 Kansas City Preseason ID: Quick Hits
March 12, 2026
On Saturday, February 14th, the Prep Baseball Kansas staff traveled to the Homefield Training Center in Olathe, KS to host the annual Kansas City Preseason ID. This event was open for 2026-2029 class members, and featured 70+ players from the two state area.
All of our events offer players the opportunity to update their recruiting resume and showcase their talents in front of our staff. We also use these events as identifiers for future invite-only events, like the Preseason All-State, our summer Top Prospect Games, and the prestigious Prep Baseball Future Games that takes place at the tail end of the summer. To see what our events offer, click HERE.
Shortly after the event, our staff compiled several of the day’s stat leaders inside our traditional ‘Stat Story’, which you can find HERE.
Today, after combing through our notes from the day, we’ve compiled some of the event’s underclass standouts below within these ‘Quick Hits’.
KANSAS FOLLOWS
+ OF Carter Taldo (Olathe West, 2027) delivered arguably the most impressive all-around performance of the preseason in Saturday’s trip to Olathe. A member of Team Kansas at the Prep Baseball Future Games, Taldo put on a show in batting practice, consistently finding the barrel with authority from a simple, level swing on the right side, producing a 100.2 mph average exit velocity per batted ball and driving his best ball 372 feet at 107.2 mph. Taldo is highly athletic at 6-foot-2, 190 pounds, running a 6.80 60-yard dash while showing reliable athletic movement in the outfield, where he also fired a 95 mph bullet on his best throw. With big tools that consistently show up in games and one of the highest ceilings in the class, Taldo continues to look the part of one of the premier uncommitted bats in the region.

+ One of the day’s biggest winners, RHP Parker Bass (Olathe West, 2028) emerged from Saturday’s look as a must-see arm in the state’s sophomore class. Physically imposing at 6-foot-7, 238 pounds, Bass showed confidence in his entire arsenal with the ability to land each pitch for strikes. The sophomore showed another velocity uptick since our last look last fall, running his fastball up to 91 mph while sitting 89–91 mph. His arm works quick and clean from a three-quarter slot, creating heavy arm-side action on the fastball. The slider shows swing-and-miss potential with sweeping action at 73–77 mph, spinning as high as 2,621 RPM with -16.7 inches of sweep. He also mixed in a changeup at 80–82 mph with over 14 inches of run on average. Bass is only scratching the surface of his upside and will be a must-follow arm for scouts in the coming years.

+ Saturday’s trip to Olathe provided our staff another look at two top bats in their respective classes in OF Everett Hash (Olathe Northwest, 2028) and INF Jett Wood (St. Thomas Aquinas, 2027). Hash continued to show impact bat potential, posting a 102.6 mph peak exit velocity with an impressive 94.5 mph average per batted ball. Meanwhile, Wood showed easy pop from a polished right-handed swing, also averaging 94.5 mph per batted ball, peaking at 100.8 mph, while adding a 6.80 60-yard dash to round out his showing.

+ INF/RHP Riland Boyer (Manhattan, 2027) put together a strong two-way showing in this look. Lean at 6-foot-1, 169 pounds with plenty of room to add strength, Boyer’s arm stood out on Saturday’s trip to Olathe, firing a 90 mph infield and 91 mph outfield bullets, both. That arm carried over to the mound, where the righty ran his fastball up to 87.5 mph, sitting 83–87 mph, complementing it with a 70–73 mph slider and a 77–78 mph changeup. Offensively, Boyer showed a short, repeatable stroke, working line drives back through the middle of the field with a peak exit velocity of 90.3 mph, while also displaying athleticism with a 6.77 60-yard dash and a 29-inch vertical jump.
+ OF/RHP Jamison Rice (Olathe South, 2027) shows some of the most projection in the class, standing at 6-foot-4, 181 pounds with plenty of room to continue adding strength to his frame. Rice came away from Saturday’s event as a name to note after an impressive two-way performance that saw him post a 100.2 mph peak exit velocity and 87 mph outfield velocity, while also running his fastball up to 83 mph on the mound with a curveball/changeup mix.
+ Saturday’s look gave our staff another opportunity to see one of the top uncommitted bats from the Wichita area in OF Drake Blasi (Maize, 2027). A multi-sport athlete who also excels on the gridiron - earning all-state honors at linebacker for the Eagles last fall - Blasi is packed with noticeable strength in a compact 5-foot-11, 203-pound build. That strength translates seamlessly to his game, where the polished lefty shows the makings of a top-of-the-order bat at the next level. Blasi peaked at a 99.6 mph exit velocity and barreled one of the day’s furthest balls at 393 feet. He moves well in the outfield, running a 6.96 60-yard dash, and pairs that athleticism with a 90 mph arm that has shown the ability to control the running game. The Wichita-area native will be a must-see name this spring for the Eagles.

+ Another Sunflower State two-way of note from Saturday’s look was RHP/1B Cooper Abernathy (Olathe East, 2028). Abernathy holds easy bat strength in a 6-foot-1, 191-pound frame, averaging 91.9 mph per batted ball with a 98.5 mph max exit velocity without much effort or intent. On the mound, Abernathy pitched at 84–86 mph with the fastball, pairing it with a 65–70 mph sweeping curveball (-20.5" HM) and a fading changeup at 75–78 mph.
+ OF/INF Tommy Costello was another standout junior from this event. The right-handed hitter displayed a twitchy, compact swing with a simple toe-tap load, driving line drives back through the middle of the field and peaking at 98.1 mph exit velocity. He also showed athletic actions in the outfield with reliable glove work and footwork.
+ Another memeber of Team Kansas at last summer's Prep Baseball Future Games, INF Drew Pittman (Blue Valley Southwest, 2027) showed well on both sides of the ball in this look. The 6-foot, 185-pound switch-hitter has added strength since our last look and continues to trend up at the plate, peaking at a 97.1 mph exit velocity while showing some of the top bat-to-ball skills in the state from both sides. An elite defender up the middle who plays with poise beyond his years, Pittman remains a must-see prospect.

+ RHP Wyatt Hansen (Olathe South, 2028) gave our staff another strong look at this event. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound righty showed a clean, in-sync delivery on the mound, running his fastball in the low-to-mid 80s, touching 85.5 mph with plenty more to come as he adds strength. Hansen also showed feel for a 68–70 mph slider with depth and up to –20" of horizontal movement, while turning over a 76–77 mph changeup.
+ A top-ranked name in the state's freshman class, INF Riley McEvoy (Spring Hill, 2029) came away from Saturday's event as one of the biggest underclass winners. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound athlete offers a projectable frame with plenty of room to add strength. McEvoy swung a quick right-handed swing with bat speed that stayed on plane, consistently barreling balls to the pull side and peaking at 96 mph exit velocity. Defensively, he posted an 81 mph infield velocity and ran a 7.05-second 60-yard dash, moving well for his size. McEvoy will be a name to keep an eye on moving forward.

+ A pair of small-school standouts put together impressive two-way showings in this look — RHP/INF Remington John (Cherryvale, 2029) and LHP/OF Cohen Gunn (Ellinwood, 2028). John, now 5-foot-11, 162 pounds, showed major jumps across the board since last summer, posting a 91 mph peak exit velocity while running his fastball up to 80 mph on the mound as he looks to make an immediate impact for the Chargers this spring. Gunn flashed tools on both sides of the ball, reaching a 94.6 mph exit velocity, 87 mph outfield velocity, and showing a four-pitch mix that included a fastball up to 85 mph, with more to come as he continues to polish his game.
+ INF John Weller (Olathe North, 2026) is an uncommitted senior of note, making major strides since our previous look last summer. Having added noticeable strength and size, Weller saw nearly a 10 mph jump in exit velocity (T94.8) while also running a 6.97-second 60 and reaching 82 mph across the diamond on his firmest throw.
+ RHP Andrew Poss (Rose Hill, 2027) and RHP Bennett Bass (Olathe West, 2029) are two projectable right-handers to note, both working their fastballs into the low-to-mid 80s.
MISSOURI FOLLOWS
+ RHP Evan Loftis (Liberty North, 2027) delivered one of the most impressive looks on the mound of the entire Missouri preseason. Standing at an imposing 6-foot-3, 196 pounds, the right-hander showed an athletic, repeatable delivery that allows him to work and create power with ease. His fastball played 90–93 mph, topping at 94 mph, showing clear extension out front with life through the zone. The slider continues to trend upward, now averaging just under 2,300 RPM with tight break at 76–77 mph. He also flashed feel for a changeup in the zone at 82–83 mph, averaging 14.7 inches of arm-side fade. An arm with plenty of upside remaining, Loftis has made major strides this offseason and will be a must-see arm this spring for one of the top teams in the state.

+ Saturday’s trip to Olathe gave us our first look at INF Karson Wiskur (Smith-Cotton, 2028), and he did not disappoint. Packed with strength in a 5-foot-10, 191-pound frame, Wiskur put together one of the most complete performances of the day. The Sedalia native hammered balls from gap to gap throughout his round of BP, averaging 99.2 mph per batted ball and peaking at 106.3 mph, both among the top marks of the event regardless of class. He showed noticeable bat speed and rotational acceleration from a polished, athletic right-handed swing that allows him to generate power to all fields. Wiskur also moved well on the dirt, pairing a 7.08 60-yard dash with steady hands and a 90 mph arm across the diamond. Wiskur should be a name to follow closely this spring.

+ OF Hayden Fritter (Kearney, 2027) was a standout junior with the bat in Saturday’s look. Fritter put together one of the loudest rounds of batting practice of the day, consistently barreling balls back through the middle from a simple, connected right-handed swing, averaging 93.7 mph per batted ball. His longest shot traveled 375 feet with a 100.9 mph peak exit velocity. In the outfield, Fritter is an athletic defender at 5-foot-8, 161-pounds with reliable actions and a 84 mph arm, while also running a 7.03 60-yard dash.
+ Another fresh face to our staff, RHP Camden Lassley (Kickapoo, 2027) emerged as an uncommitted arm to keep an eye on this spring. The 6-foot-1, 192-pound righty shows noticeable strength in his lower half and uses a simple, repeatable delivery to run his fastball up to 89.5 mph, carrying through the zone with spin north of 2,400 RPM and up to 19.9 inches of arm-side action. Off the fastball, Lassley threw a developing 81–83 mph short-slider, featuring bullet-like spin averaging 2,330 RPM.

+ RHP Harrison Tritz (Liberty North, 2027) is an intriguing arm to watch this spring after another jump on the mound in this look. A competitor on the mound, the 6-foot-1, 186-pound righty shows present strength with room to add more. His fastball sat 87–89 mph with some carry and feel for strikes. Off of the fastball Tritz spun a curveball that flashed swing-and-miss potential at 71–77 mph with downer spin, while his changeup mirrored the fastball’s shape, running 77–79 mph with over 15 inches of arm-side run, showing clear swing-and-miss ability.
+ Few in attendence boosted their prospect stock more than INF Cade Hayter (Willard, 2026) emerging as a must-see uncommitted middle infielder this spring. The switch-hitter impressed across the board, running a 6.77 60 with 3.79 / 1.67 30/10-yard splits before following up with one of the day’s most impressive BP rounds. Hayter showed the ability to impact the ball from both sides of the plate, peaking at 100.3 mph exit velocity with a 384-foot top distance, and generated notable bat speed, topping 77.4 mph with 24 mph hand speed. Defensively, he’s advanced with sure-handed actions, comfort on the move, and a 91 mph arm across the diamond, making him a must see name for college coaches on one of Missouri’s top Class 5 teams.

+ RHP Will Evert (Raymore-Peculiar, 2028) emerged as a winner from Saturday’s look after showing a significant velocity jump on the mound along with a clear aptitude for spinning the baseball. The sophomore right-hander continues to grow into his 6-foot-4, 217-pound frame and showed improved ability to control his long levers, resulting in a seven mph jump since our last look at the US Nationals Scout Day last summer. Evert ran his fastball up to 87 mph, sitting 84–87 mph with spin up to 2,504 RPM, and there appears to be more velocity in the tank. He also flashed two high-level breaking balls: a 72–75 mph curveball spinning over 3,000 RPM, and a 74–75 mph slider averaging 2,597 RPM with heavy sweep that reached over -20 inches of horizontal movement at times. He rounded out his arsenal with a 79–81 mph changeup.
+ INF Tucker Gamet (Liberty North, 2027) put together a head-turning performance in this look, emerging as a quick-twitch, high-upside athlete to watch this spring. Gamet flashed elite athleticism with the event’s best 6.67 60-yard dash, along with a 3.76 30-yard split, before following it up with an impressive round of BP from the right side—peaking at 99.1 mph exit velocity with an 87.1 mph average, showing a short, direct path to the baseball. He’s a clean, bouncy defender on the infield with a strong arm (T88 mph) and appears to have the tools to stick on the dirt long-term, though his athleticism would also allow him to transition to the outfield if needed.

+ A pair of North Kansas City two-way standouts emerged from Sunday’s event: RHP/OF Jackson Murmylo (Liberty North, 2028) and OF/RHP Christian Gonzalez (Staley, 2028). Murmylo, an upside 6-foot-1, 193-pound athlete, flashed arm strength on the mound, running his fastball up to 86 mph with a curveball/splitter mix, while also showing pop at the plate with a 93.2 mph peak exit velocity. Gonzalez displayed intriguing two-way tools, peaking at 97.9 mph exit velocity with a strong feel for the barrel, pairing that with an 87 mph outfield velocity and a two-pitch mix on the mound.
+ 1B Jagger Jackson (Savannah, 2028) continued to show a polished middle-of-the-order profile in Saturday’s Olathe trip, flashing gap-to-gap power from a level, balanced right-handed swing that averaged 95.6 mph per batted ball, peaking at 99.6 mph. He also showed arm strength across the infield, topping 90 mph.
+ INF Drew Kindle (Smith-Cotton, 2028) and C Caleb Fletchall (Kearney, 2027) are a pair of strong bats to follow from this event. Kindle peaked at a 96.1 mph exit velocity from a quick, level right-handed swing that showed more polish and strength than in previous looks, while also reaching 82 mph across the infield. Fletchall averaged 92 mph per batted ball, peaking at 95.8 mph, and impressed defensively behind the plate, consistently popping between 1.88 and 1.97 seconds and an 81 mph arm from the chute - both top marks at the event.
+ RHP/OF Akiva Clifton (Hickman, 2027) showed one of the strongest arms of the day, posting the day’s second-best outfield velocity at 92 mph and running his fastball up to 85 mph on the mound, pairing it with a short-wrinkle slider at 74–75 mph.
+ A trio of emerging freshman two-way talents stood out in Saturday's look - INF/RHP Max Juhl (Liberty North, 2029), OF/LHP Matthew Breer (Lee's Summit, 2029), and OF/RHP Thomas Eggers (Raymore-Peculiar, 2029). Juhl is a projectable 6-foot-1, 173-pound righty with room to add strength, pairing low-90s exit velocities with a three-pitch mix on the mound and a fastball up to 80 mph. Breer showed intrigue from the left side, working an upper-70s fastball while producing low-90s exit velocities from a polished left-handed swing. Although he didn’t pitch in Saturday’s look, Eggers displayed top-tier athleticism and arm strength, firing an 87 mph bullet from the outfield, running a 6.92 60, and peaking at a 92.7 mph exit velocity.

+ RHP Dane Peterson (Liberty North, 2028) is another physical sophomore arm to note. The 6-foot-2, 208-pound righty pitched at 83–84 mph with the fastball, touching 85.1 mph with ease of effort that suggests more velocity is ahead. He complemented that with a 71–72 mph slider and a 76–78 mph changeup.
