Notable Recaps from Thursday

St. Paul's Episcopal (5) vs. UMS-Wright Prep (4)
St. Paul’s Episcopal built an early lead and held off a late push to defeat rival UMS-Wright 5-4 on Thursday. The Saints struck first in the opening inning on a sacrifice fly from Tate Farrell before extending the lead with a three-run third inning, highlighted by RBI walks from Ross Delaney, Max Boulo, and Sims Brown. UMS-Wright chipped away in the later innings with a combination of hits and defensive miscues to trim the deficit to one, but St. Paul’s was able to hang on. Farrell earned the win on the mound, allowing three runs (one earned) over five innings while striking out eight. Boulo closed the door to record the save. Evan Hawarah led the offense with two hits from the leadoff spot, while Brown, Hawarah, Boulo, Delaney, and Farrell each drove in a run.

Helena (3) vs. Homewood (0)
Helena earned a 3-0 win over Homewood on Thursday behind a dominant outing from Jake Holderfield, who struck out 10 over a complete-game shutout. The right-hander allowed just four hits and one walk across seven innings. The Huskies broke through in the fourth inning when Lane Harris delivered an RBI single down the right-field line and Morgan Turner added another run on a fielder’s choice. Helena later added an insurance run to secure the victory. Holderfield also contributed at the plate with two hits and an RBI, while Harris and Turner each drove in a run. Helena showed patience offensively, drawing seven walks in the contest. Ben Roberts led Homewood with two hits in the loss.

Hoover (1) vs. Houston (0)
Top-ranked Hoover edged the No. 7-ranked team in Tennessee, Houston, with a 1-0 win on Thursday behind a dominant pitching performance from Will Adams. The Bucs scored the game’s lone run in the second inning on a dropped third strike. That proved to be enough support for Adams, who was outstanding on the mound, striking out 12 while allowing just one hit and one walk over seven scoreless innings. Drew Monte recorded Hoover’s lone hit in the contest, while the Bucs played clean defensively behind their ace. Houston managed just one hit in the loss as well.

Saraland (9) vs. Spanish Fort (6)
Saraland defeated Spanish Fort 9-6 on Thursday behind a strong offensive performance and a dominant outing on the mound from Cade Mason. The Spartans jumped out early with four runs in the first inning before adding five more in the third to build a commanding lead. Bryce Rivers led the offense with a perfect 3-for-3 day, including a double and three RBIs, while Saraland finished with 11 hits in the game. Mason set the tone on the mound, striking out 10 across five scoreless innings while allowing just three hits. Spanish Fort mounted a late rally with six runs in the seventh, highlighted by RBIs from Landon Elleard and Brayden Bound, but Saraland was able to hold on for the win.

Wetumpka (4) vs. Pike Road (3)
Wetumpka held off a late push from Pike Road to secure a 4-3 win on Thursday. The Indians broke through in the fourth inning when Aiden Peake launched a solo home run to left field, helping Wetumpka build a four-run advantage. Pike Road chipped away late with a pair of runs to cut the deficit to one, but Wetumpka was able to hold on down the stretch. Asher Nobles earned the win on the mound, allowing three runs (one earned) over five innings, while Dylan Jordan recorded the save.
