ALABAMA - With the 2026 high school season officially underway, it’s time to recognize the standout performances that helped set the tone across Alabama in Opening Week.
Each week this spring, we will name an Alabama Player of the Week and Alabama Pitcher of the Week, honoring the top individual performances from around the state. These awards are based entirely on nominations submitted by high school coaches, highlighting the athletes who delivered when it mattered most during game action.
From dominant outings on the mound to explosive performances at the plate, Week 2 brought no shortage of impact performances. Now, it’s time to spotlight the next honorees of the 2026 season.
AL Player of the Week: Week 2

Evan Long SS / Smiths Station, AL / 2027SS Evan Long (Smiths Station) turned in one of the most productive offensive weeks in the state to earn Week 2 Alabama Player of the Week honors. The infielder was a driving force in the Panthers’ lineup, going 10-for-15 (.667) at the plate with three doubles, a grand slam, nine RBIs, and seven runs scored. Long consistently delivered in run-producing situations throughout the week, combining extra-base power with a disciplined approach that allowed him to reach base at a high rate. His ability to impact the game both with the bat and as a catalyst at the top of the lineup played a key role in Smiths Station’s success during Week 2. |
AL Pitcher of the Week: Week 2

Carson McGee RHP / 3B / Red Bay, AL / 2027RHP Carson McGee (Red Bay) delivered one of the most dominant single-game performances of the season to earn Week 2 Alabama Pitcher of the Week honors. In the county championship matchup against Phil Campbell, the right-hander tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out an impressive 16 batters. McGee controlled the game from start to finish, consistently working ahead in counts and overpowering hitters throughout the outing. His commanding performance on the mound played a pivotal role in Red Bay securing the county title and stands as one of the most dominant pitching performances across the state during Week 2. |
