Prep Baseball Wisconsin Player of the Week: Josiah Black

Sophomore catcher Josiah Black has been a steady performer for the Hawks this spring and arguably put up his best week of the year in the last full week of the regular season. Going 8-for-10 at the plate with six RBIs, three doubles, two triples and a walk across three games this past week. For his efforts, Black has been named this week’s Player of the Week.

In two conference victories against Racine Park Black collected six hits, five of them going for extra bases with five RBIs and three runs scored.

On Saturday against Waterford the sophomore finished off his week with a two-hit day driving in one run.

A steady defender with a direct and strong right-handed bat with advanced bat to ball traits while flashing some feel to backspin the baseball through the middle of the field in past looks. Upside remaining to the frame with plenty of room to fill into as he matures.

Hit: RHH. Narrow setup, leg lift trigger, gains ground, creates separation in load, repeats. Well sequenced, aggressive to and through the ball, hits against a firm front side, ball jumps off the bat, hits to all fields. 68.9 mph bat speed with 24 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 92 max exit velocity, averaged 79.6 mph. 348' max distance.
