SoCal ProCase: Positional Analysis

On May 31st, the Prep Baseball California team hosted the SoCal ProCase at Pepperdine University in Malibu, Cal. This was an invite-only event for high school classes (2027-2028), and gave our staff an ample look at the area’s top prospects.

Today, we will we’re taking a look at scouting reports on all of the postional prospects from the event, as well as a top-5 overall:

TOP POSITIONAL PROSPECTS

1. Dylan Seward, Norco High (CA), 2027 Tennessee
Positional Profile: SS/2B A switch-hitter with an efficient barrel plane and strong hip-driven separation from both sides of the plate.
Body: 5-11.2, 172-pounds. Athletic, firm frame with present strength throughout.
Hit: SH. Balanced, even lower half with the front foot facing inward and a knee bend present. Upper half is tight and loaded with the back elbow flared towards the catcher. Hands rest at ear level. Medium, inward leg lift stride that loads heavily onto the rear leg with the hands casting outward. Lands soft on the front foot. Hips turn well and fire first, creating good bat lag with great separation. Efficient barrel plane throughout. Mechanics stay similar batting from both sides, with more loft from the right side. 73.1 mph bat speed with 13g of rotational acceleration.
Power: 101 mph max exit velocity (94 avg.); 390-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 87 mph. Quick arm backpath from a 3/4 arm slot. Very loose, easy release.
Defense: Lower half stays active when fielding with a smooth transition from lower to upper half. Makes athletic plays laterally, approaching the ball in a calm manner. Smooth, efficient transfer with calm glove work.
Athletic Testing: 6.09 runner in the 60-yard dash.
