Updated Class of 2027 Alabama Rankings
August 19, 2026
ALABAMA - The Prep Baseball Alabama staff is excited to release the latest update to the Alabama 2027 Rankings following an extensive summer evaluation period across the state and region. With additional looks gathered throughout the summer circuit, the rankings have expanded to 215 players and feature plenty of movement throughout the board, including some notable shuffling inside the Top-10.
This update comes after a busy summer that provided our staff with opportunities to evaluate prospects in a variety of settings, including high-level tournament play, major summer events such as the Yellowhammer State Games and the National Program Invitational (NPI), Prep Baseball showcases, and other live-game looks. Continued physical development, increased velocity, improved offensive profiles, verified data, and performance against quality competition all helped shape the latest version of the rankings.
With another full summer of information now added to the evaluation process, the latest rankings provide an updated snapshot of where Alabama's 2027 class stands heading into the fall.
How We Evaluate & Update the Rankings
The Prep Baseball Alabama staff evaluates players year-round through a combination of in-game coverage, spring and summer evaluations, postseason looks, showcase/event data, and continued follow-up throughout the calendar. Both in-game performance and objective data are extremely important in the evaluation process, as each provides valuable context when building and updating the rankings.
Production against quality competition carries significant weight, but rankings are not simply a list of the players with the best statistics. At the same time, they are not determined solely by showcase metrics. All data collected at Prep Baseball events is verified through industry-leading technology and trusted evaluation settings, including TrackMan, Blast Motion, and VALD Performance testing. Metrics such as exit velocity, athletic testing numbers, arm strength, pitch characteristics, and physical projection provide measurable feedback that complements what our staff sees during live evaluations.
Ultimately, present ability, in-game production, verified metrics, athleticism, physical development, positional value, and long-term projection all factor into the evaluation. There is no single formula for ranking players, and no ranking system is perfect. Rankings are subjective and fluid by nature, but we take pride in the amount of time spent evaluating and discussing prospects throughout the state with the goal of creating the most informed and accurate snapshot of the class possible.
As players continue to develop, movement throughout the rankings is natural and expected. While it may appear that a player has "dropped," that movement does not necessarily reflect a decline in his evaluation. In many cases, players behind him have made significant jumps or new prospects have emerged and earned spots higher on the board. With the amount of development that can occur during the summer months, movement throughout the class is an important part of every update.
