2027 Rankings Update: August 2026
August 19, 2026
Following a long summer of evaluations made on the showcase and tournaments circuit we release an update of our 2027 board. This list serves a pair of purposes; the first being our updated draft board for names at and near the top. Also, this list is reflective of our staff's thoughts on who the top uncommitted players are in the class as they begin their season. For both purposes, we have as good of talent on the board as any class that has come through in recent years, and frankly, this class just keeps getting better & better. We've now expanded to 350 names - the annual estimate of the number of college-bound seniors within Indiana's borders for a given class. To date, we have more-than 90 players in this class who have made a college commitment, including 52 Division I recruits. Continue reading to find the latest news on which prospects are gaining buzz in the scouting community, our bullish picks to gain helium in that world this fall, and our top uncommitted prospects for each position as we lead into the final months before the early signing period for colleges.

Names in the Top 10
Preface: A year ago today, I would've said this 2027 draft crop was behind the 2026s viewed in the same light. Now, that is not the case, and this group could certainly rival any prep draft class that has come out of Indiana in at least a decade. While I am still not confident enough to say there is a Max Clark or Colson Montgomery type prospect in this bunch - I see a path for the top 4 in the class to get Top 2 round money - and another couple with near 7-figure upside.
+ The headlining move in this update is our new No. 1 prospect, SS Grady Grant (Center Grove; TCU). The helium tour Grant went on throughout the summer circuit was one of the more impressive I've seen of an Indiana prospect heading into their draft year. His showings on the tournament circuit showed increasing impacts to an already-valued bat-to-ball ability that we've grown accustomed to. He then went on to wow the scouting community with a breakout performance at the 18u USA Trials, followed by another strong performance at the East Coast Pro. While the impacts and run tool will need to take a grade jump next spring for these bullish expectations to come to fruition, Grant's ability to stick at shortstop and high end bat-to-ball skills have garnered first round upside from multiple pro organizations. While the raw tools may be a touch light at the moment, the skillset he presents is the best of the bunch and the physical tools should continue to trend up.
+ A trio of prospects remain on the heels of Grant with paths that could lead to a top 50 selection in next July's MLB Draft. CF Drake McClurg (Center Grove; Texas A&M) is the most polished performer of the group-of-four and also presents the best present toolset of the bunch. A plus runner, plus defender in center, and switch-hitter with a chance for at least average power and hit on the pro-scale, McClurg settles into the two-hole with the highest floor of the bunch. RHP Cole Cheatham (Union County; West Virginia) follows just behind as one of the more-tantalizing right-handed arms in the country. Already up to triple digits on the fastball with a pro-ready frame, Cheatham's path to being one of the top prep right-handers off the board next July remains clear, and if he polishes at the rate in which he did last offseason once again - he could easily jump into first round consideration. SS Isaiah Snavely (Zionsville; Texas A&M) rounds out the group with the biggest offensive upside in the class. The left-handed twitch brings a path to plus raw power down the road while his foot speed could certainly be a plus tool at some point as well. The contact rates and defensive profile are the biggest questions here, but the offensive ceiling is undeniable and could certainly push him into an early Day 1 selection in 2027.
+ Moving into the top five is C Cooper Collins (Vincennes Lincoln; Texas A&M). I've heard 65 grades thrown on his arm and it is easily the best present day tool in the class. A true defensive weapon, Collins' bat will ultimately depict how much he is valued for next spring, but the floor presented by his defensive prowess could easily make him one of the top prep backstops off the board next July. IF Ben Canada (Guerin Catholic; Northwestern) lands at No. 6 in this update. Canada is the biggest helium candidate in the class for next spring in my book, a 6-foot-3 left-handed hitter who could ultimately bring the biggest hit/power combination of any player in the class when it is all said and done. The defensive profile will be under the microscope, and the run tool will need to take a jump, but if questions are answered we could certainly see scouts flocking to Guerin Catholic to get looks on him.
+ CF Mason Meyer (Mt. Vernon; Arizona State) leads the next group. While the undersized R/R tag may ding his value out of high school, I am confident in saying that his hit tool is amongst the top 3 in the class, and it may be the best. Couple that with a plus run tool, and the ability to stick in center, and there is significant hidden value that Meyer brings to the professional level. LHP Davis Moore (Zionsville; Vanderbilt) remains in the top 10 after leading Zionsville to a semi-state appearance last spring. Moore is a southpaw who has excellent control of four pitches, and has been into the low-90s with a fastball that comes from a unique slot. Our top two corner bats round out the top ten in 1B Grady Nelson (Warsaw; Ole Miss) and 3B/RHP Camden Moore (Zionsville; Notre Dame). Nelson has the biggest raw power in the class presently, while Moore brings two-way value with hit/power potential on the offensive side to go alongside as big of a ceiling as any right-hander in the class outside of Cheatham.
Helium Hopefuls
+ Some of these names have already garnered some attention, but the top 5 arms in the class who do not see their name in the top 10 in this update are certainly worth noting as we lead into the fall. RHP Charlie Herr (Homestead; Indiana) is a long, athletic SP who has a chance to make HUGE jumps in the next 8-10 months, while the long term upside feels endless. He shapes 4-5 pitches with a clean looking operation, already boasts a fastball that will work into the low-90s, and has tons of room to dream on in an athletic 6-foot-5 frame. He is followed closely by LHP AJ Baggett (Evansville North; Indiana) who is a loose, athletic left-hander that works up to 90 with a breaking ball that could end up as a plus when it is all said and done. A pair of summer risers lift into this group, as well, in RHP Jack Kunas (Munster; Oregon) and LHP Cutler Chastain (Bedford North Lawrence; Michigan). Kunas was a Senior Future Games standout that committed to the Ducks just a few weeks after starring in Atlanta. There are SP traits to dream on with control of his arsenal, a polished delivery that gets quality extension, a hoppy fastball that works up to 92, along with a breaking ball that took a leap this summer. Chastain's left-handed fastball provides an invisible look at times as it worked up to 90 mph this summer, and he will also show several shapes along with owning an athletic 6-foot-2 frame that still holds upside. Rounding out our group of helium hopefuls is RHP Lucas Haas (Valparaiso; Cincinnati). Haas may be the best mover of the bunch, and in spurts could go above any name in this group. The arm action and movement patterns project for even more velocity in the future and he already reaches into the low-90s with a pair of secondaries to dream on.
+ The positional side of things in this class boasts a deeper group of athletes who bring value, beginning with OF Clark Bucher (Hamilton Southeastern; Michigan). Bucher adds alluring upside with untapped strength in a wiry, 6-foot-3 frame & has a chance to blossom into a switch-hitting centerfielder with at-least average raw power down the road. SS/3B Parker Robinson (Lake Central; Oklahoma) is an SEC-bound prospect with as big of upside as any in the class, bringing massive intrigue with his pro-style frame and athleticism. SS Liam Delp (Center Grove; Michigan) and CF Eli Harris (Jeffersonville; Miami OH) are both plus runners who could stick in the middle of the diamond. LHH OF'ers in Colin Axel-Adams (Pendleton Heights; Purdue) and Ben Schaeffer (Mt. Vernon; Bellarmine) bring value in the left-handed bats they provide. Axel-Adams is a plus runner who brings front-line raw power, while Schaeffer's hit tool and bat-to-ball prowess may be one of the best in the class. Another riser this summer worth adding into this group is C Cam Gates (Bedford North Lawrence; Boston College) who proved on the circuit to have some of the best bat-to-ball skills in the class while tapping into more-and-more impact. Gates exits the summer firmly within a tier of some of the top position players in the class, seeing his name tiered in with two more upside backstops who could draw attention in Luke Brown (Evansville Memorial; Indiana) and Jackson Harris (Carmel; Baylor).
