Western Wisconsin Summer ID: Takeaways

On Tuesday, July 14th, the Prep Baseball Wisconsin staff hosted the Western Wisconsin Summer ID at Valley Sports Academy in Lake Hallie, WI. Around 20 players participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Wisconsin staff.

Today, we will be providing our scouting takeaways on some of the event's top performers.

POSITION PLAYERS

OF Clay Mueller (Owen-Withee, 2029) Athletic 5-foot-9, 167-pound frame with strength throughout and room for additional physical development. 7.27 runner. Left-handed hitter with a closed, wide setup, rocking into the backside before a small stride into hitting position. Works downhill with a flat, line-drive approach through the middle of the field, reaching a 93 mph max exit velocity. Defensively, attacks the baseball with smooth footwork and clean transfers, working from a low ¾ slot with a quick arm that shows carry and accuracy while reaching 84 mph from the outfield.

INF/OF Easton Anderson (Menomonie, 2027) Strong 5-foot-7, 168-pound frame with strength throughout and a 7.00 runner. Right-handed hitter with an open setup and loose, fluid operation, getting the foot down early and showing a hitterish move into contact. Uses the lower half well with a swing that works from the ground up, creating quick hands and bat speed through the baseball with hard line-drive contact through the big part of the field. Reached a 95 mph max exit velocity. Defensively, showed a quick first step with smooth footwork and range, projecting as a middle-type defender with an accurate ¾-slot arm that reached 77 mph across the infield.

INF Micah Johnson (Hudson, 2029) Athletic, projectable 5-foot-8, 163-pound frame. Right-handed hitter with a narrow, upright setup and early leg-lift gather, landing with aggression and on time. Quick hands with a swing that uses the ground well, driving the ball to all fields with present pop. Defensively, smooth mover with a quality clock, rangy first step, and athleticism that plays in the middle of the diamond.

C Everett Babler (St. Croix Central, 2027) Athletic, wiry 5-foot-11, 159-pound frame with long levers and a 7.30 runner. Left-handed hitter with an athletic toe-tap gather, landing with aggression and control into a repeatable hitting position on time. Clean path with very good bat speed, creating authority to all fields with a hitterish feel and plenty of jump off the barrel. Defensively, showed quick feet, smooth actions, soft hands, and a soft blocker while consistently turning the ball around quickly. Ultra-quick arm with the ball jumping out of hand with accuracy, recording an 80 mph catcher velocity and 1.92-2.01 pop times.

INF Zach Konkel (Mondovi, 2027) Projectable 6-foot-0, 187-pound frame with a high waist. Right-handed hitter with a narrow setup and easy, rhythmic front-foot move, landing with quality direction and on time. Quick, loose hands work through the baseball with a hitterish swing, producing hard line-drive contact with a natural feel for the barrel. Defensively, showed soft, smooth hands with a quick first step laterally and the ability to work the feet through the target. Accurate arm from a high ¾ slot, reaching 78 mph across the infield.

PITCHERS/TWO-WAYS

INF/RHP Maxel Keyes (Menomonie, 2029) Strong 5-foot-10, 205-pound frame with strength throughout, right-handed hitter with serious hand and bat speed, driving the ball through the big part of the field with feel to hit and a 97 mph max exit velocity. Defensively, showed soft hands, clean transfers, and a shuffle toward the target with the ability to throw accurately from multiple angles. Is an intriguing arm to follow in the Badger State. Keyes is a simple mover with a clean, low-effort arm path. His fastball showed slight arm-side action, sitting in the upper-70s, before turning to a curveball that averaged 2365 rpm, -11.2 inches of horizontal movement, and -7.2 inches of induced vertical break. He rounded out his three-pitch mix with a change-up at 72-74 mph with slight fade.

RHP Henry Pommier (St. Croix Central, 2029) made his Prep Baseball event debut and came away a name to follow in the incoming sophomore class. He stands in a wiry, high-waisted 6-foot-1, 155-pound frame with plenty still to dream on. His fastball came out of his hand clean, playing with life through the zone, sitting in the upper-70s. His mixed in a slider with short, 10/4 shape, averaging -14.1 inches of horizontal movement and -1.9 inches of induced vertical break. He rounded out his arsenal with a change-up that played with cut. With the movement patterns and frame, Pommier is a name with projection down the line.

RHP Maxwell Jaeger (Menomonie, 2027) On the mound, Jaeger showed a clean and quick arm that produced the firmest fastball of the day (81.3 mph). He sat 77-80 mph throughout with his fastball, showed a slider and curveball, and a change-up that played with slight fade and depth.
