IHSA Daily Roundup: May 8th

No. 3 Normal Community blanked Urbana 10–0 behind a five-inning no-hitter from Carter Reiners (2027). Reiners was dominant throughout, allowing just one walk while striking out eight. The Ironmen had eight players collect a hit in the contest, highlighted by two hit performances from Max Heineman (2026; UIC commit) and Jacob Engel (2026). Tyce Beckman (2026; North Central Missouri JC commit) collected a two-RBI single in his only at bat.

No. 4 Lockport defeated No. 14 Lincoln-Way West 4-2 in a Power 25 matchup. Austin Winge (2027) was dominant on the mound for the Porters striking out 12 over a seven inning complete game. Lockport scored three in the first with help from a two-RBI double from Adam Kozak (2026; Lewis commit) and a sac fly from Jack Schiek (2026; Purdue Northwest commit) to bring Kozak home. David Kundrat (2026; Saint Xavier commit) added some insurance in the fourth with an RBI groundout. For the Warriors, Owen Chudzinski (2027) was dominant in relief, throwing three no-hit innings, while striking out six.

No. 7 Huntley beat No. 9 McHenry 5-3 in a tightly contested FVC matchup. The Red Raiders pulled away in the sixth, thanks to an RBI single from Aiden Eickelmann and a two-RBI single from Gavin Rettberg (2026), which proved to be the game winner. Rettberg finished the day 3-for-4 with two RBI and Eickelmann finished with two hits, an RBI, and two runs scored. Travis Dudycha (2026; Heartland CC commit) earned the win out of the pen tossing two scoreless innings. Nathan Neidhardt (2026; HR) and Kaden Wasniewski (2027; LSU commit; 2 H, 2 RBI) led the Warriors offense.

Marion took down No. 12 Mascoutah 3-2 in an extra inning thriller. Entering the eighth inning tied 1–1, Hayden Harriss (2027) ripped a two-RBI double to give the Wildcats the lead. The Indians answered with a run on a double play in the bottom half, but the comeback effort fell short. Aiden Pickles (2026; Rend Lake JC commit) and Braden Walsh (2026; Rend Lake JC commit) each collected two hits for the Wildcats. Brayden Bethel (2028) was sharp on the mound going six innings, allowing one run on two hits, while striking out five.

No. 15 Lemont defeated Argo by the score of 21-0. Cannon Madej (2026; Southwestern Illinois JC) led the way on offense going 2-for-3 with a home run, double, six RBI and one run scored. Vince Friscia (2026) went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBI, three runs scored and a walk, Brett Tucker (2026; Southern Illinois-Edwardsville) doubled twice in the game with one RBI and two runs scored. Mike Kalkowski (2027) went 2-for-2 with one run scored, and Grady Garofalo (2026; South Suburban JC) went 2-for-3, one RBI and two runs scored. On the mound, Carson Caruso (2026) tossed three innings on the mound, struck out four, walked two, allowed no runs and three hits while earning the win on the mound.

No. 16 Geneva defeated Glenbard North by the score of 15-0. Nick Torrence (2026) led the charge at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run, six RBI and two runs scored, and Ryan Kastor (2026) went 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs scored and a walk. On the mound, Noah Hallahan (2027) threw a complete game shutout (4 IP) with eight strikeouts, one walk, and three hits.

No. 18 Lyons defeated Proviso West by the score of 11-0. Tanner Fridrych (2026) went 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI, two runs scored and a walk, and Nathan Fitzgerald (2027) went 1-for-1 with two RBi, two runs scored and a walk. EJ Kuhman (2027) and Abraham Caseres (2026) each went 2-for-4 with two run scored. On the mound, Owen Cypress (2027) earned the win, tossing two innings with three strikeouts and one walk, and Nick Hines (2027) threw two innings in relief with three strikeouts and two hits allowed.

No. 20 Normal University defeated Pontiac by the score of 16-0 in four innings. Brody Klemmensen earned the win on the mound, throwing 3.1 innings of perfect baseball with four strikeouts. At the plate, Klemmensen added two hits and one RBI. Caleb Hornbrook (2026; Lake Land JC) went 1-for-4 with a home run, four RBI, one run scored and a walk. Cole Brent (2027; Illinois) went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored, Griffin Meyer (2026) added a hit with one RBI, three runs scored and a walk, and Cade Cunnningham added two hits, one RBI and one run scored.

Herscher took down No. 21 Dunlap by the score of 6-4. Nash Brubaker (2026) went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, three RBI and two runs scored. Cam Baker (2026) went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, and Cooper Meredith (2027) tallied a pair of doubles with one RBI and one run scored. For Dunlap, Landon Gray (2026; Luther College) went 2-for-2 with a double, one RBI and one run scored. Jake Weeks (2027) went 3-for-4 with a double and one RBI, and Brett Alkire (2027) added two doubles and one RBI.

No. 24 Glenwood defeated Highland by the score of 4-0. Cameron Murphy (2029) earned the win on the mound, tossing a complete game shutout with five strikeouts, two walks and two hits allowed. Colten Knoedler (2026; Lincoln Land CC) went 2-for-3 in the game with a pair of doubles, one RBI and one walk, and Tucker Murphy (2027) added a hit with two RBI, one run scored and a walk. Michael Lucas (2026; Lincoln Land CC) added two hits in the game with one run scored.

Bartlett defeated Elmwood Park by the score of 10-1. Brandon Pelz (2026; Valparaiso) tossed five innings on the mound, struck out nine, allowed no runs and two hits. Now 2-2 on the season, Pelz broke the career strikeout record at Bartless. Josh Colaizzi (2026; McHenry County JC) went 2-for-3 in the game with a double and two RBI, and Vince Yario (2026; Harper JC) went a perfect 3-for-3 with a grand slam, double and four RBI.

Crystal Lake South defeated Jacobs by the score of 12-4, scoring nine runs in the sixth inning. John Morgan (2028) went 3-for-4 on the day, tallying a home run, six RBI and one run scored. Carson Trivellini (2027; Illinois) went 3-for-4 with a double and one run scored, Wes Bogda (2028) went 3-for-4 with one RBI, and three runs scored, and Michael Silvius (2027) added two doubles. Silvius also went five innings on the mound allowing one run. Jack Coates (2028) ripped a three-run HR for the Golden Eagles.

Grayslake Central defeated Grant Community by the score of 7-2. Beau Barrows (2028) improved to 4-0 on the the year, tossing five innings with seven strikeouts as the Rams picked up win number 20 on the season. Logan Marshall (2027) had a double and a single in the game, and Carson Woods (2026) tallied a pair of hits, leading the team's 10-hit performance.

Oak Park-River Forest defeated Hinsdale Central by the score of 3-2 in eight innings. Ian Moore (2028) went 2-for-3 in the game with a double, two runs scored and a walk. Johnny Nelson (2026; Wright State) added a pair of hits, while Brandon Beasley (2027; Illinois State) and Robert Kolovitz (2027) each tallied a hit and one RBI. On the mound, Grayson Waters (2027) threw five innings, struck out nine, allowed one earned run and three walks. Tucker Henry (2026) tossed three innings in relief, struck out two and allowed one hit.

St. Rita defeated Rich Township by the score of 8-0. Ryan Jones (2027) went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Jayden Ibarra (2027) added a two-run single in the game, and Colin Quinn (2026; Heartland CC) added a sacrafice fly. Danny Corona (2027) threw a complete game shutout and struck out one, walked one, and allowed five hits.

Westmont defeated Chicago (Intrinsic Charter-Downtown Campus) by the score of 15-0. The Sentinels extended their winning streak to 17 games, a school record. Nikolai Baldwin joined the 100-hit club in the game, finishing the day 1-for-2 with two RBi, one run scored and a walk. Landon Hicks fired a complete game (4 IP) no-hitter with nine strikeouts and four walks allowed.

York defeated IC Catholic Prep by the score of 4-2. Nathan Patterson (2028) went 2-for-3 in the game with a triple, and Will Bute (2027) went a perfect 2-for-2 with a double, one RBI, one run scored and a walk.
