WIAA Diamond Notes: Week 9

Each week, WIAA coaches around the state submit to us their nominations for the Prep Baseball Wisconsin Player of the Week and Prep Baseball Wisconsin Pitcher of the Week honors. Yesterday, we awarded the Week 9 Player of the Week to C Josiah Black (Indian Trail, 2028), Black went 8-for-10 at the plate with six RBIs, three doubles, two triples and a walk across three games this past week. The Pitcher of the Week is RHP Ashtyn Seifert (Beaver Dam, 2027), the right-hander tossed seven shutout innings allowing five hits, one walk while striking out 15 batters in a 4-0 win.
There were a number of other impressive performances that were in the mix for the award and deserve recognition. Here’s a look at some of the most notable.
Week 9 Diamond Notes
+ Christian Rehm, RHP (Stratford, 2028):
Rehm made one start on the mound against Wittenberg, pitching five innings. He allowed two hits, three walks, and one run during the outing while striking out 12 batters.
+ Coy DeVries, LHP (Ripon, 2026):
DeVries made two appearances with one start on the mound against St. Mary’s Springs and Two Rivers, pitching seven and two-thirds innings. He allowed one run, zero hits, and seven walks while striking out 17 batters. His week was highlighted by throwing six innings of no-hit ball with 14 strikeouts as part of a combined no-hitter.
+ Colton Arpke, C/RHP (Crivitz, 2028):
Arpke made two appearances with one start on the mound against Sturgeon Bay and Gillett/Suring, totaling nine innings pitched. He allowed no runs, one hit, and two walks while striking out nine batters. He was part of a combined no-hitter in the opening game of the regional tournament against Gillett/Suring on Thursday, May 28th, and went 4-for-4 at the plate in that same game. On Thursday, May 21st, he also spun a one-hitter in a five-zero shutout win over Sturgeon Bay.
+ Ben Jones, RHP, (Mukwonago, 2026; Wisconsin-Parkside):
Jones made one start on the mound against Brookfield Central, throwing six innings. He allowed three hits, three walks, zero runs, while racking up 12 strikeouts in the winning effort.
+ Nolan Schmidbauer, OF, (Waukesha West, 2026):
Schmidbauer was a catalyst in the Wolverines’ lineup this past week, going a combined 6-for-8 with four runs scored and two runs driven in in contests against Waukesha South and Greenfield.
+ Owen Zeller, INF, (Indian Trail, 2028)
Zeller was a major contributor in the Hawks’ five game winning streak this past week, going a combined 10-for-17, scoring nine runs, and driving in 12 runs, highlighted by his performance in a win against Waterford on May 30th, where he went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a home run, driving in four runs and scoring twice.
+ Max Nemoir, RHP, (New Berlin Eisenhower, 2027)
Nemoir made one start against Chesterton Academy, throwing seven shutout innings with one walk, two hits allowed, striking out 12 batters in the complete game victory.
