2026 OHSAA Tournament: Division IV State Semifinal - #11 Fairfield Union vs #14 Bishop Fenwick

AKRON - A 7-0 victory over Fairfield Union has Bishop Fenwick in the Division IV state finals in Doc Wieland's first year as head coach of the Falcons.

Anthony Snyder threw a two-hitter for the 14th-ranked team in the state, which jumped to a 6-0 lead after two innings courtesy of a five-run second inning.

Singles by Boyd Westefield and Nick Bachmann sandwiched around an RBI single form Ty Miller opened a second inning that included two walks, two errors and a pair of balks leading to the five runs.

Bachmann had a single and scored in the sixth for Fenwick, which will take on Perkins at 10 a.m. Sunday in the championship game.

Garrett Dilcher had two triples for both Fairfield Union hits, with the senior committed to Wittenburg drivingin both runs for the 11th-ranked Falcons.

 

HOT TAKES

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Snyder had a strong outing on mound, fanning eight and walking three in the two-hit performance. The uncommitted junior RHP threw 61 strikes out of his 93 pitches.

WHAT'S NEXT?: The top three pitchers for Fairfield Union are juniors with four other starters also underclassmen for 18th-year head coach Scott Burke, who led the Falcons to the state tourney for the first time since 1986 when they beat Miami East in the semifinals before falling to Akron SVSM in the Class AA finals.
