2028 Overall Rankings Update

Ranking a class three years out is an exercise in tracking trajectory, not declaring conclusions, and the June update of the Class of 2028 board is the loudest reminder of that yet. The winter workouts and spring performances helped us build to this summer where we'll find out which prospects really are the best in class, as all roads lead to LakePoint and the Prep Baseball Future Games at the end of July, teeing up the recruiting window opening for this class at the start of August.

Today, we're highlighting the players on this latest national update who made the most of the first half of this pivotal year in their development.

NEWCOMERS IN THE TOP-10 💫

  • #4 OF Koltyn Watters (Rochester Adams HS, MI)
  • #5 RHP/3B Cullen Scott (Melissa HS, TX)
  • #8 SS Landon Bonner (Hebron HS, TX)
  • #10 OF Jakob Groeschel (Kenton Ridge HS, OH)

It's tempting to call them newcomers, but each of the four players who broke into the top-10 did it by surging up a track they were already on. OF Koltyn Watters (Rochester Adams HS, MI) made the most substantial leap of the group, jumping from No. 23 to 4 overall, based on the strength of a loud left-handed profile: a 104 mph max exit velocity paired with 6.47 speed, the kind of bat-speed-and-wheels combination that scales.

Koltyn Watters (4/13/26)

RHP/3B Cullen Scott (Melissa HS, TX) climbed from No. 19 to 5, and while he profiles as a true two-way prospect with an easy right-handed swing, it's the mound that has scouts leaning in: a 94-98 mph fastball that touched 99 this spring, backed by a curveball, slider, and changeup whose strike-throwing and shape are catching up to the arm strength. SS Landon Bonner (Hebron HS, TX) surged from No. 35 to No. 8 as a quick-twitch, plus-running shortstop with instincts, range, and emerging pull-side pop.

Landon Bonner (2/2/26)

Then there's OF Jakob Groeschel (Kenton Ridge HS, OH), up from No. 40 to 10 as one of the most explosive athletes in the entire class. He generates top-scale strength and twitch in the batter's box all while running a 6.30 in the 60-yard dash with a 29.3-inch vertical and a 106.8 mph max EV. The right-handed bat is exceptional and it boosted his stock in this most recent update.

#92 OF Isaac Schroeder (Granite Bay HS, CA)
#93 OF Dane Disney (Oaks Christian HS, CA)

If there's a single emblem of this update, it's 3B Levi Abrego (Iowa Colony, TX), who rocketed from No. 269 to 51, underscored by a special collection of tools. Abrego pairs premium right-handed bat strength with power and twitch in the swing generated from explosive bat speed and rotational acceleration. He had a 1.708 OPS and four homers in eight games before going down with an injury, though he's ramping up back to full health soon.

Levi Abrego (1/20/26)

He's not alone. LHP Jude Huff (Magnolia West HS, TX) made the class' other triple-digit jump, climbing from No. 181 to 38, while Luke Hensley (Tri-West HS, IN) and C Jonathan Marzullo (IMG Academy, FL) both surged more than 120 spots into the top-80. SS Jake Welch (Lehi HS, UT) nearly doubled-back his ranking from No. 141 to 47, with clean middle-infield actions and a 95.1 mph average EV that points to consistent, usable contact.

Jake Welch (2/3/26)

SS David Vargas (Cartersville HS, GA) jumped from No. 73 to 18 as a polished, projectable left-handed-hitting shortstop, and LHP Henry Heller (MOC-Floyd Valley HS, IA) climbed nearly 90 spots to No. 110 as a fluid, advanced operator. Round out the climbers' tier with OF Jaxxon Tweedt (No. 57), LHP Sean Rodesiler (No. 70), RHP Cooper Janke (No. 77), LHP Ty Pohl (No. 60), and SS Tyler Caperton (No. 142), each of whom moved 60-plus spots on the back of strong spring looks.

The deepest story of this update isn't at the top, it's the volume of players appearing on the board for the first time, the helium candidates whose summer and spring performances earned a debut ranking. The front of that wave is loaded: OF Noah Harris (Benedictine Academy, GA) at No. 72, C Evan Alexander (True North HS, FL) at No. 74, CIF Weston Barrett (Mount Dora Christian, FL) at No. 84, and Isaac Schroeder (Granite Bay HS, CA) at No. 92. A debuting OF Dane Disney (OF, Oaks Christian, CA) slots in at No. 93 with one of the quicker left-handed, center field-type profiles in the group, as a 6.40 athlete.
