Prep Baseball Illinois Player of the Week: Anthony Couch
June 3, 2026
Anthony Couch (2026; Spoon River commit) is the latest player to be named Prep Baseball IL’s Player of the Week. Couch played the hero for Marquette against Bishop McNamara, hitting a walk off two-run home run to send the Crusaders to the Sectional Semifinals, which will be held on Wednesday in Herscher at 2:00 pm against IC Catholic.
The Spoon River commit was integral to the win for Marquette, finishing the day 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, and four runs batted in. He opened the scoring for the Crusaders with a two-run double in the bottom of the fourth to cut a 3-0 deficit to a one-run game, and ended the game with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh. He had the lone multi-hit game for Marquette and drove in all four runs in the win.

We're thankful for the POTW submissions we received from the coaches across the state. The players who garnered POTW consideration will earn a place within tomorrow's Diamond Notes story, so be on the lookout for that.

Scouting Report
Verbally committed to Spoon River JC.
Uncommitted. Stands in at 5-foot-9, 190-pound frame with broad shoulders, room for additional strength. Made an impact at the plate on Friday (2-for-3, HR, 3 RBI, R) and pitched a scoreless inning of relief. Stands at the plate with a slightly crouched stance and wider base. Launched a no-doubt two-run home run over the left field wall in the second inning. In the fourth, he brought in another run on a hard hit ball to left. On the mound, he offered a low-80s fastball (T83) that came with some arm-side run, and a hard-biting curveball that sat in the upper-60s - showed 11/5 bite and garnered some swing-and-miss throughout his inning of work. Uncommitted name in Illinois’ junior class.
