This Monday, Prep Baseball saw a pair of great matchups in the Metro League 3A district playoffs. Both games carried high stakes with the winners clinching a spot in the WIAA 3A state playoffs. In game one, O'Dea rolled to a run-rule victory over Seattle Academy, and in game two, Roosevelt rallied late to win a close one over Seattle Prep. Below are scouting notes on standout performers from both games.

O'Dea vs. Seattle Academy (5.11.26)

O'Dea

'28 RHP Nolan Barrett (Uncommitted)
A high ceiling arm with present skill as well, Barrett cruised on the hill for the Irish and was ultra-impressive beginning to end. The 6'5 righty leaned heavily on his offspeed early on, keeping the top of the order off-balance with a strong SL/CH combination. He then leaned more on the fastball as the game went along, sitting 85-88 MPH with the pitch. Barrett's long levers generate easier extension downhill, paired with a fluid wind and arm action creating an uncomfortable look for hitters. The command was strong in this game with all three offerings. Barrett leads the team with 46.2 IP this spring, throwing to just a 1.65 ERA with 50 K's. Final line on Monday: 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 8 K.

'26 INF Uriah Stringfield (Bellevue College Commit)
The catalyst at the top of the order in what was an offensive explosion for O'Dea, Stringfield had a well-rounded game and has been a strong contributor all season long. The compact-framed senior mans the middle infield well with quick, twitchy movement patterns and plus range defensively. At the plate, Stringfield sets in a tighter stance with a direct path to contact, displaying a contact-over-power approach. He filled the stat sheet in this game, going 1-2 with a run, RBI and a walk. The senior will be a key piece for O'Dea down the stretch.

'26 OF Noah Vandervort (Uncommitted)
In a game where O'Dea had plenty of big swings, Vandervort delivered the biggest of them all with a walk-off three run home run to send his team to state. The senior sets in an upright, more narrow stance, working through a toe-tap load and creates loft at impact. The towering blast to LF came on a pitch more up in the zone, but the senior stayed on top just enough to clinch the win. Vandervort had a big day at the dish overall, going 2-3 with 2 runs and 3 RBI while manning a quality corner OF spot.

'28 OF/INF Jack Gonzalez (Uncommitted)
A sophomore to circle heading into the summer, Gonzalez continues to trend upward after a series of strong looks in 2026. The wiry-framed athlete just missed leaving the yard in his big swing in this one, settling for an easy two-run triple in a big O'Dea 5th inning. Gonzalez creates a firm front side at impact with a slight uphill barrel path to do damage to the gaps, seen most recently at the PNW Preseason All-State showcase this winter. He's a versatile defender who manned CF well in this game, seeing limited action in-game but showing well in pregame INF/OF.

Seattle Academy

'26 LHP Dashiell Story (Uncommitted)
The lefty has been a critical two-way piece for the Cardinals this spring and got the start on the mound in this one. Despite some mixed results in the end, Story flashed in a big way early and cruised through his first few innings. The 6'1 arm worked through a rhythmic wind with a tighter arm swing, carrying some heavier life on the fastball. The heater sat 85-88 MPH early, paired with a CH with fading action at 75-79 MPH and a CB at 70-72 MPH. The command faded somewhat as the game went on, but Story did manage to strike out 4 hitters across 4.1 innings of work. He also added one of three Seattle Academy hits on the day with a line drive single the other way.

'26 INF/RHP Eli Herst (Vanderbilt Commit)
A two-time Prep Baseball All-American and the top-ranked senior in Washington thanks to his prowess on the mound, Herst showcased the versatility on Monday in the infield and at the dish. The senior fits well on the left side of the dirt at the HS level with longer levers and plenty of arm strength. He also went 1-2 at the plate, fighting a pitch off for a single to the big part of the field. Herst is having a huge spring on the whole, leading the team with a .484 batting average and totaling 3 home runs and 30 hits overall. On the mound, he's logged 48.1 IP with just a 0.87 ERA, with 88 K's to just 15 walks.

Roosevelt vs. Seattle Prep (5.11.26)

Roosevelt

'26 INF Ryan Towne (Washington Academic Commit)
The only Rough Rider to collect a multi-hit game, Towne was the offensive star in game two, finishing 3-4 with 3 singles and an RBI. The compact-framed senior sets with lower hands starting away from his frame, carrying a heavier barrel through the zone with a flat path. Towne delivered in the huge 7th inning for Roosevelt, pulling the hands through and keeping a ball fair down the LF line to drive in the game-tying run.

'26 INF Troy Robinson (Uncommitted)
Robinson has swung it well all spring long for Roosevelt, looking the part offensively in the three hole. The senior finished 1-3 with a single, walk and two runs scored on Monday, finding a way to impact the game in several ways. Robinson carries some bat speed for the frame with a gap to gap approach. Defensively, the shortstop showed strong, smooth actions with a quicker release to fire. Senior is a key piece for Roosevelt as they head to the state playoffs.

'27 RHP Owen Poort (Uncommitted)
The lean-framed righty got the start on the mound and kept his team in the game on Monday. Poort worked through a steady-paced wind with repeatability, throwing from a steeper high-slot angle. The junior mixed in four pitches, leaning on his breaking ball heavily in addition to a low 80's fastball. He worked 4 innings and struck out 4, limiting the damage to just 1 run allowed. He also reached base twice with a single and a walk, moving the line forward from the middle of the batting order.

'27 LHP Andrew Patterson (Uncommitted)
The lefty was huge in relief, throwing up a pair of scoreless frames to earn the W on the mound. Patterson changed speeds well in this look, creating some deception with late intent down the mound. The junior struck out 3, allowing no hits and 1 walk across his two innings of work. The larger, long-limbed frame has room to add strength and could be a quality arm as he continues to develop.

Seattle Prep

'27 RHP/INF Ben Cunningham (Uncommitted)
The uncommitted junior had his fingerprints all over this game, turning in a nice start and collecting a pair of hits offensively as well. The 6'3 arm was a fiery competitor on the bump, sitting 82-85 with the fastball and mixing in a CB at 69-71 as his primary offspeed pitch. Cunningham worked 4 innings on the mound, allowing 2 hits, 1 run and striking out 4. At the plate, the junior had another great performance after a multi-hit game seen earlier this season. Cunningham finished 2-4 with 2 runs and an RBI, delivering a triple as Seattle Prep's lone XBH of the evening. Junior is a name to circle heading into the summer.

'29 INF Johnny Riley (Uncommitted)
In a game where the offense struggled to get going early on, Riley produced a pair of barrels in his first two plate appearances, hitting a hard ground out first and reaching on a single later. Riley would add a walk in his final PA as well. The top-ten ranked freshman in the state repeats the swing exceptionally well, creating some separation at his load/stride with a flatter barrel staying through the zone well. The offensive profile is more hit over power to this point, but as he continues to mature and add strength the power is likely to come. Riley also displayed aggressive instincts on the bases and continues to show a smooth glove at shortstop, where he figures to stay for years to come.

'28 OF Angelo White (Uncommitted)
Another arrow-up young prospect who has impressed all spring long, White had an impact in this game both on the field and at the plate. The sophomore finished 1-3 with a single and a walk, pulling a ball to LF as his lone hit of the night. The compact-framed OF carries impact pop at the top of the order and has hit consistently all season. Defensively, White made one of the biggest plays of the game, ranging to make a fantastic catch on a bases loaded, 2-out line drive to end an inning early on.
