17U Rock Summer Championships: Takeaways

Our staff hosted the PBT 17U Rock Summer Championship the weeked of 7/16-7/20, annually one of the more talented events on our summer circuit. This year was no different with nearly 90 teams registered and hundreds of players showing well for themselves.
Today, we wanted to take the time to highlight some of these players in this takeaways piece, found below.

Uncommitted; 5-foot-7, 155-pound frame with present bat-to-ball traits and a knack for the barrel. Quality contact in 3 of 4 trips to the plate in a look on Friday morning.
Evan Cole, UTL, Winnebago Lutheran Academy, 2027
Uncommitted, 6-foot, 190-pound frame with an adjustable LH swing that delivers the barrel with some heaviness to it. Shortens up with two strikes from a balanced toe-tap operation. Split the gaps for a double in each in a look on Friday.

Kyle LaRose, OF, St. Charles East, 2027
Uncommitted. 5-foot-11 160-pound build that will fill out and develop. LaRose hits for power from the left side and will continue to hit as he develops. He displayed this power with a two home-run game. In the outfield, LaRose has an accurate arm and a consistent glove.

Uncommitted. 5-foot-9 175-pound build with a developed lower half. Jensen hits from the left side with a compact powerful swing, he is quick to the ball and finds barrels. In the outfield, Jensen is an above average mover and has an accurate arm.

Christian McWilliams, OF/RHP, Charlestown Senior, 2027
Uncommitted. 6-foot, 220-pound frame. McWilliams made his presence known, launching a no-doubt home run deep over the left-field fence before coming back in his next at-bat and ripping a stand-up double. Finished 2-for-2 with 4 RBI, showcasing quick hands, impressive strength, and the ability to impact the baseball with authority.
Cangelosi Sparks North - White 2027
Jose Samaniego, OF/LHP, St. Francis-Wheaton, 2027
Uncommitted. 6-foot-3, 170-pound frame. Samaniego closed the game with authority, filling up the strike zone and attacking hitters with confidence. His lively two-seam fastball featured late arm-side run, consistently beating hitters and allowing him to finish the game in dominant fashion.

Uncommitted, 6-foot, 185-pound frame. A twitchy athlete with an open stance and a small leg-lift into a twitchy RH swing with a line drive oriented approach.; 6.7 runner. Looked the part of a top of the order bat. A clear follow after a strong summer circuit.

An athletic 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame. Balanced setup and leg lift operation with hands preset in slot into a smooth RH swing; present feel for the barrel with a gap-to-gap approach. Looked the part behind the dish with strong catch/throw traits and showed it off by back picking a runner at second in a look on Friday night. Mature presence behind the dish that slows the game down for his staff. M2C as he adds strength to the frame. Definite follow in Illinois.
Connor Krumrei, Oak Park-River Forest
Uncommitted; Tooled up 6-foot, 210-pound frame. Slightly open stance into a small leg-lift that gets front foot down with authority into a whippy RH swing with some feel to elevate. Present bat speed in the box with a strong barrel to pair; 6.5 runner. A top uncommitted bat in the state.
Ryland Contreras, OF/C, Prospect, 2027
Uncommitted; 5-foot-11, 190-pound frame. Set up slightly open and bent at the knees with hands pre-set in slot into a fluid RH swing with present feel for the barrel; 6.70 runner. Went 4-for-4 with 3 RBIs in a look on Friday evening. Twitchy athlete that plays with a motor. Clear follow in Illinois.

Thomas Shanahan, OF, Lincoln-Way Central, 2027
Uncommitted 5-foot-10, 180-pound frame. Shanahan was everything you want from a leadoff hitter, consistently working counts, getting on base, and applying pressure throughout the game. Finished 1-for-1 with a no-doubt home run over the left-field fence while also drawing walks. Showed advanced speed on the basepaths, making life difficult for the catcher and creating constant pressure whenever he reached base.
Jake Tomczak, MIF/RHP, Sandburg, 2027
Uncommitted. 5-foot-11, 180-pound frame. Impressive outing from the right-hander, tossing 4.2 innings, allowing one earned run, and striking out eight. Tomczak consistently got ahead in the count, and commanded the strike zone throughout the start. His curveball was a true out pitch, landing it for strikes early in counts and keeping hitters off balance with late break. Mechanically, he showed strong lower-half usage, creating good momentum down the mound while repeating his delivery and staying on line to the plate, allowing his stuff to play up throughout the outing.
Joseph Straub, RHP, Lockport Township, 2028
Uncommitted. 5-foot-11, 185-pound frame. Strong outing out of the bullpen from the right-hander, attacking hitters and filling up the strike zone. Allowed no hits or runs while striking out two. Fastball sat 78–79 mph, consistently generating weak contact and quick outs. Showed excellent use of his lower half, creating strong momentum down the mound with an aggressive stride, allowing his two seam fastball to play with heavy arm side run and late life through the zone.

Owen Galas, INF, Downers Grove North, 2027
Uncommitted. Strong 5-foot-11, 175-pound frame. Showed a smooth LH swing with feel for the barrel. Led the team with seven hits on the weekend, two of those going for doubles.

Jimmy Haas, C/OF, St. Patrick, 2027
Northwestern commit. Projectable 6-foot-3, 180-pound frame. Twitchy left-handed swing; flashed bat strength. Finished the weekend 3-for-9, including a triple and a home run. Interesting follow as the athleticism continues to tick up.

Chase Brogelman, 2B/RHP, Regis Catholic, 2027
Uncommitted. 5-foot-8, 130-pound frame. Quality start from Brogelman, consistently attacking the strike zone and generating weak contact with first-pitch strikes. Showed an advanced feel for pitching, repeating his delivery and staying in rhythm throughout the outing. Finished with 6.0 IP, 3 ER, and 6 K.

Dillon McCarthy, OF/LHP, Oregon, 2027
Uncommitted. Physical 5-foot-10, 180-pound frame. Despite taking the loss, McCarthy showcased an impressive arsenal and advanced feel for pitching. His two-seam fastball featured heavy movement, while his tight-spinning slider consistently generated swings and misses. Worked quickly, sequenced pitches well, and consistently got ahead in counts. Finished with 5.0 IP and 8 K, showing the tools to be an intriguing arm moving forward.

Nathan Dugan, SS/OF, Vernon Hills, 2027
Uncommitted. 5-foot-6, 150-pound frame. Dugan brings an energetic presence to the batter's box with quick hands and an aggressive swing that consistently produces loud contact. Uses his speed to pressure the defense and turn singles into extra bases. Finished 2-for-3, consistently barreling baseballs and creating offense throughout the game.
Peter Ney, OF/RHP, Lakes Community, 2027
Uncommitted. 5-foot-10, 140-pound frame. Strong outing out of the bullpen, limiting damage and helping swing momentum back in his team's favor. Attacked hitters with confidence, generated swing-and-miss, and allowed just two hits while earning the win. Filled up the strike zone and showed the ability to compete in key situations.
Michael Haran, OF, Carmel Catholic, 2027
Uncommitted. 6-foot-3, 210-pound build that is tall, mature and developed. Haran moves well in the outfield, plays an athletic center field. At the plate, Haran has natural power which showed in a two home-run game.

Uncommitted. 6-foot-3, 200-pound frame. Impressive complete-game performance, consistently attacking the strike zone with first-pitch strikes and working efficiently. Pitched to contact while utilizing a sharp 12-to-6 curveball to generate weak contact throughout the game. Finished with a complete-game line of 7.0 IP, 1 ER, 5 K.
Lukas Rivera, MIF, Chicago Hope Academy, 2027
Uncommitted. 5-foot-10, 165-pound frame. Rivera was a difference-maker at shortstop, making diving backhand plays, handling routine chances with ease, and turning double plays smoothly. Showed quick hands, quiet feet, and an accurate arm. At the plate, he showcased his power by driving a stand-up double deep into left-center field.

Uncommitted. 6-foot-1, 200-pound mature build. Judge is athletic, developed and tall. He plays the field above average. At the plate, Judge hits everything hard and uses the whole field. His swing is compact and powerful, driving balls to the gap.

Balanced setup with a simple trigger and a small shift of hands into slot; Clean RH swing with a strong barrel that gets on plane. Lined a loud single back up the middle while taking some quality ABs in a look on Thursday night.
Reed Millette, MIF, Gardner-South Wilmington, 2027
Projectable 6-foot-2, 190-pound frame. Closed, preset coil into a fluid RH swing with some strength to the operation. Sent a loud 2B to the big part of the field in a look on Thursday night with little perceived effort. Also an intriguing low-mid 80’s arm on the bump with a feel to spin and turn it over from the right side.

Uncommitted. 5-foot-7, 160-pound frame. Dinauer consistently barreled baseballs throughout the game, staying back and letting his quick hands work through the zone. Produced loud contact all day and finished 2-for-4, showing a mature approach at the plate.
Sam Ortiz, RHP/SS, Franklin, 2026
Uncommitted. 6-foot-3, 180-pound frame. Strong outing out of the bullpen, providing quality innings while attacking hitters and filling up the strike zone. Worked 3.0 IP, allowing two hits while striking out six. Showed the ability to paint the corners with his fastball and quickly adjusted to the umpire's strike zone throughout the outing.

Joshua Keenan, LHP, Chaska, 2027
Uncommitted, ranked No. 8 overall in Minnesota, 6-foot-3, 173-pound frame that has room to fill out and develop. Keenan worked hitters with a fastball up to 88 mph, sitting 83-86 mph, and a slider that was 76-78 mph. He worked the zone with both pitches and was consistently throwing strikes. Over five innings, Keenan struck out ten and only gave up one run. His mechanics were clean and smooth, working downhill with ease and athleticism.
Aeson Kiley, INF, Hill-Murray, 2027
Uncommitted, 6-foot, 170-pound frame that will develop. Kiley has an advanced hit tool that will develop into power, he displayed this tool with a 4-for-5 game with three doubles. Kiley has a smooth left-handed swing that finds barrels. In the field, Kiley plays up the middle with a clean glove and accurate arm.

Luke Chynoweth, C, Monona Grove, 2027
Uncommitted. Mature 5-foot-11, 169-pound frame that packs raw power and hit ability. Chynoweth is a clean and consistent defender behind the plate. Receives well and throws with accuracy.
Carter Hansen, OF, Waunakee, 2027
Uncommitted. Tall, thin 6-foot 170-pound frame that shows a simple, smooth swing from the left side. Hansen has a raw hit ability and gets on base consistently. Gets out of the box easily with raw athleticism and speed, overall Hansen is projectable.
Hudson Yinko, OF, Monona Grove, 2027
Uncommitted. 5-foot-11, 180-pound frame with room to fill out. Yinko has an easy, loose, smooth swing from the left side. Has a natural hit ability and will develop power, moves with athleticism and mature ability.

Rylan Godfrey, OF/RHP, Jacobs, 2027
Uncommitted. 6-foot-1, 170-pound frame. Godfrey has a relaxed, comfortable setup at the plate with minimal movement and quick hands that allow him to get the barrel to the baseball consistently. He understands his role as a hitter, staying within himself and taking quality at bats rather than trying to do too much. Finished 2-for-4 on the day, quietly putting together one of the more productive performances. Godfrey is the type of fundamentally sound player whose consistent approach and feel for the game make him a player to watch moving forward.
Max Backaus, 3B/RHP, Dundee-Crown, 2027
Uncommitted. 6-foot-1, 185-pound frame. Backaus looked comfortable at the plate all weekend, showing the ability to drive the baseball to all fields with a mature, balanced approach. Hits from a tall stance while crowding the plate, forcing pitchers into the zone and consistently putting himself in favorable counts. On the mound, the right hander attacked the strike zone and provided quality innings, topping out at 81 mph while keeping his team in the game. A polished two-way prospect with a fundamentally sound approach on both sides of the ball.
Zach Techen, MIF, Park Ridge, 2027
Uncommitted. 5-foot-11, 160-pound frame. Techen was consistently on the barrel all game, producing loud contact throughout the day. Finished 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, showing a confident, balanced approach at the plate. Defensively, he stood out with smooth hands, solid lateral range, and the ability to make plays on the run look routine. A steady presence in the infield who controlled the game with his defensive instincts and reliability.

Ty Bumgardner, RHP/3B, Notre Dame Academy, 2027
Uncommitted. 6-foot-3, 190-pound right-hander. Bumgardner used his lower half well to generate downhill momentum, allowing his fastball to play with life through the zone. He mixed in a quality changeup and a tight slider with horizontal movement to keep hitters off balance throughout the outing. LINE: 4.2 IP, 2 ER, 3 K. Fastball sat 83–85 mph, topping at 86 mph with a change at 78 mph and a slider 75–77 mph.
Cade Heiman, RHP/2B, Oshkosh West, 2027
Uncommitted. 6-foot, 180-pound frame. Heiman came out of the bullpen and completely shut the door. The right-hander ran his two-seam fastball up to 87 mph with heavy arm-side life and paired it with a tight 79 mph slider that consistently missed bats. Finished with a dominant 2.1 IP, 0 H, 5 K.

Brayden Jenkins, MIF/RHP, Kaukauna, 2027
5-foot-11, 165-pound frame. Athletic stance with hands in slot in rhythm with toe-tap; fluid RH swing with a hitterish look. On the barrel multiple times in a look on Thursday. Also an athletic right handed arm on the bump in the low-mid 80’s, running it up to 84 with a tight 12-6 curveball at 68-70 mph and a slider in the low-mid 70’s for swing and miss. 2026 State Champion. Intriguing follow.
Landen Sheppard, INF, Neenah, 2027
5-foot-9, 175-pound frame. Balanced approach and a quick leg-kick stride with a knack for the barrel all weekend. Consistently found hard contact including a long home run to left-center field in a look on Thursday morning. Also a quality defender in the dirt.

Benjamin Horn, RHP/C, Muskego, 2027
Uncommitted. Strong 6-foot, 195-pound frame with room for added strength. Currently ranked No. 139 in Wisconsin. Right-handed hitter, sports a natural, fluid swing, was on the barrel with a gap-to-gap approach. The selective hitter plated three runs on two hits, including a double and a walk. Behind the plate, Horn has a strong, quick arm, a 2.20 pop time, threw out a would-be base stealer.
James Cirincione, RHP/SS, Whitefish Bay, 2027
Uncommitted. 6-foot, 180-pound frame. Cirincione turned in a quality start, consistently getting ahead in counts with a sharp 12-to-6 curveball. His two-seam fastball featured heavy arm-side run, generating weak contact throughout the outing. Repeated his delivery well, painted the corners, and showed tight off-speed command. Finished with 6.0 IP and 5 K.
Ayden Andrysczyk, MIF/RHP, Mukwonago, 2027
Uncommitted. 6-foot, 175-pound frame. Andrysczyk flashed twitchy athleticism throughout the game with a wide stance, small leg kick, and explosive hand speed. Finished 2-for-4 with 2 RBI, producing quality contact while also standing out defensively with accurate throws and smooth double-play turns.

Logan Tretter, RHP/3B, East Ridge, 2027
Uncommitted. 6-foot-3, 190-pound frame. Strong outing from Trettor, consistently getting ahead in counts and attacking the strike zone. Showed confidence in his sharp 12-to-6 curveball, landing it for strikes with late break, while his two-seam fastball featured heavy arm-side run. Finished with an impressive 4.0 IP, 1 ER, 10 K.
Noah Little, MIF, St Croix Lutheran, 2027
Uncommitted. 5-foot-10, 180-pound frame. Little was a stereotypical leadoff hitter, consistently working counts, staying patient, and finding ways to get on base. Produced loud contact throughout the day with quick bat speed and advanced bat-to-ball skills. Finished 3-for-4 with 3 RBI.
Lincoln Reeder, OF/3B, Anoka, 2027
Uncommitted. 6-foot-3, 190-pound frame. Reeder consistently ambushed pitches, staying within a gap-to-gap approach while controlling the strike zone. Used his long stride and athleticism to stretch extra-base hits, finishing just a home run shy of the cycle. Went a perfect 3-for-3 with 4 RBI.

Uncommitted. 5-foot-7, 157-pound frame with developed lower half and advanced fielding abilities. Muma plays shortstop with ease, and has a clean glove, and accurate arm. At the plate, Muma packs power and a natural hit ability, swing is simple and quick to ball.

Prep Baseball Future Games 2025 Alum and Louisville commit; 6-foot-1,155-pound frame. Loose wiry operation with a full arm circle at a unique low ¾ slot. Fierce competitor where his stuff, command, and mound presence only get better every time we see him. FB sat 84-86 mph T87 with life in all quadrants, power sweeper at 69-71 mph that garnered plenty of whiffs; turned over a CH with fade for S/Ms at 73-76 mph. Should generate buzz within the pro community as the velo continues to tick up. A close follow in the Badger State.

Uncommitted. Currently ranked No. 126 in the IL ‘27 class. Lean 6-foot, 173-pound frame; physical lower half. Slight crossbody delivery, longer arm action, low ¾ slot. Showed well on the mound as he fanned four, walked one, and gave up zero hits. Threw a sinker shape 79-80 mph, T81. Showed confidence in the changeup, which sat 74-76 mph.

Uncommitted; currently ranked No. 237 in Wisconsin. 6-foot, 180-pound frame. Fluid RH swing that delivers a heavy barrel at impact. Closed, coiled up stance with a hitterish look to it. Lined a single to left-center and consistently took quality ABs in a look on Thursday morning. A name on the rise after a strong summer campaign.

Uncommitted. Strong, athletic 5-foot-11, 190-pound, proportional frame with room to add. Currently ranked No. 62 in Missouri. The right-handed hitter has feel for the barrel, strong, fluid and natural bat-path with a gap-to-gap approach. Defensively, a smooth defender with the ability to stick on the left side, soft hands, ranges side to side, strong clean arm, comfortable with multiple arm slots.

Luke Quade, SS, New Richmond, 2027
Uncommitted. Compact 5-foot-9, 187-pound build with a developed lower half and mature upper. Quade packs power at the plate and hits everything hard with a smooth compact swing. Plays the infield with a smooth clean glove and throws across the diamond with an accurate arm.

Uncommitted. Strong 6-foot-2, 211-pound frame. Kruzan had an impressive day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a home run, one RBI, and three runs scored. He utilizes a balanced, no-stride approach with a controlled hand trigger, consistently working the barrel through the zone and looking to drive the ball gap-to-gap.
Carson Eckes, OF, Columbus Catholic, 2027
Uncommitted. 5-foot-8, 183-pound frame. The left hand hitter has a slightly upright and open stance. Looking to place balls to all fields. In the game against ESP Select 17u on Sunday he went 2-for-2 with a RBI, two runs, and a stolen base.
Ty Teske, LHP, Wausau West, 2027
Uncommitted; currently ranked No. 164 in Wisconsin. 5-foot-10, 180-pound frame that competes with a motor. Slight crossbody delivery at a ¾ slot that pitches with conviction. FB sat 81-83 mph, topping 85 mph with feel and missed barrels, sharp slider with depth at 67-69 mph and flashed a CH at 70-72 mph. Threw six innings with no walks and three earned runs. Quality arm worth a follow in the Badger state.

Brady Dunnett, SS/C, Oswego, 2027
Uncommitted. 5-foot-9, 180-pound frame. Dunnett impacted the game in every facet, consistently getting on base, making plays defensively, and working quality at-bats. His biggest moment came late when the Knights needed a run, battling through a 10-pitch plate appearance to draw a clutch walk. Defensively, he showcased an advanced arm for his size and flashed smooth, shifty actions in the infield with the ability to make plays from multiple angles.
Dylan Doogs, LHP, Oswego, 2027
Uncommitted. 5-foot-11, 190-pound frame. Strong outing from the left-hander, consistently getting ahead in counts and keeping hitters off balance with a sharp 12-to-6 curveball and fading changeup. Picked up the win after going 6.0 IP, 3 ER, 3 K. Repeats his delivery well and uses his lower half efficiently to drive toward the plate, allowing his fastball to play up. Stayed composed with runners on base and consistently minimized damage.

Impressive outing from the right-hander, attacking the strike zone and generating weak contact throughout five innings, allowing four earned runs while striking out six. The flamethrowing righty featured a lively two-seam fastball with heavy arm-side run that consistently overpowered hitters. Mixed in a tight curveball with late break, generating early swings and plenty of ground-ball contact.
Henry Peterson, OF/SS, Benilde St. Margaret, 2027
Uncommitted. 6-foot-3, 200-pound frame. The tall left-handed hitter was a difficult matchup all game, featuring quick hands and a patient approach at the plate. Uses his long levers well to generate leverage through the zone, while his long stride translates to above-average speed on the bases. A projectable athlete with plenty of offensive upside.

Mitchell Chmielewski, C, Whitnall, 2027
Uncommitted. 6-foot 167-pound build that is thin, but athletic. Behind the plate, Chmielewski had multiple low 2.00 in-game pop times and a 1.98 as well. He defends and receives with above average ability and at the plate hits for average.

Grant Moonen, OF/1B, Prior Lake, 2027
Uncommitted. 6-foot, 170-pound frame. Moonen impressed on both sides of the ball, showing a smooth, comfortable left-handed swing and a reliable glove. A true bat-to-ball hitter, he consistently competed in the box and produced loud contact throughout the day. Finished 2-for-2, continuing to show an advanced offensive approach.
