PITCHER ANALYSIS

Brett Barnes, Cardinal Newman High School (CA), 2029
Positional Profile: RHP/3B Lanky athlete with quality power potential and very strong instincts and movements in the infield. Also has a loose arm action with a quality changeup.
Body: 5-10.4, 161-pounds. Lanky with long legs. For his build a quality athlete.
Delivery: Clean, compact start with a high energy leg kick that gets good momentum into the windup. Gets solid hip rotation. Cuts his motion short at the end, stopping his hips abruptly and not sweeping his back leg all the way through, which negatively affects velocity, command, and arm health.
Arm Action: RH. Deep reach back and sweepy arm action, really extends his arm all the way out. Moderate arm speed and arm whip. Arm action is loose and relaxed. Fires from a 3/4 slot, though that slot is not always consistent.
FB: T77, 74-77 mph. Plays relatively flat with solid armside movement. Not super deceptive or surprising. Throws is well for strikes and the only misses come when he yanks the pitch gloveside. T2093, 2014 average rpm.
CB: 65-69 mph. Straight down bite with quality tightness and spin. No late movement but original movement is solid enough. Often leaves it armside but can keep it down, avoiding mistakes. T2320, 2159 average rpm.
CH: 69-69 mph. Displays quality downward and armside action. Gets a sharp break with a little late movement. Consistency on which way the pitch breaks varies as his armslot and release point can vary. Locates it very well armside and shows flashes of consistency low in the zone. T1791, 1671 average rpm.

Reed Colley, De LA Salle High School (CA), 2027
Positional Profile: RHP/RHP Stocky body that features strong horizontal movement but not much vertical movement.
Body: 5-9.3, 168-pounds. Stocky for a pitcher. Does not have long legs. Strong upper body.
Delivery: Very compact, simple motion. Not a lot of movement. Medium leg kick, very relaxed and low effort. Quality extension and solid rotation.
Arm Action: RH. 3/4 armslot. loose, but not whippy. Below average arm whip and moderate arm speed. A little deception but not much.
FB: T82, 80-82 mph. Quality armside run. Plays flat vertically. Not super sneaky but has some explosion at the end to make up for lack of rise. Displays a strong feel for strikes with the pitch. Locates armside very well. T2188, 2058 average rpm.
CB: 64-67 mph. Big straight down looper. Has quality break but is not sharp because it comes in so slow and starts so high up. Shows a feel for dropping it into the strike zone to steal pitches but does no locate it well enough to be a huge swing and miss pitch. T2007, 1935 average rpm.
SL: 72-73 mph. More horizontal than vertical on the break, it has quality movement and strong life, picking up some late movement and deceptiveness. Not much to be said vertically, which makes it play flat at times, but strong, tight break horizontally makes up for it. Locates it on the corner well but prone to yanking it gloveside. T2116, 2090 average rpm.
CH: 74-76 mph. Strong armside break and quality fading action. Too firm at times that makes it look like the fastball. Locates armside but has trouble locating gloveside. T2014, 1922 average rpm.

Logan Connell, Del Oro High (CA), 2028
Positional Profile: RHP/3B Lanky build with long limbs that generate plus extension with a potential pair of quality offspeed pitches.
Body: 6-0.4, 137-pounds. Skinny, lanky, very long legs. A lot of room to put on muscle.
Delivery: Gets incredible extension, using the full legnth of his long legs to get down the mound with quality force and energy. Not the biggest leg kick, and not bringing it up fully allows him to rush at times and not use all his power. Collapses a little bit in back leg in windup but overall solid posture.
Arm Action: RH. Medium deep reach back, cuffs the ball a little bit which offers some deception. Loose 3/4 arm slot with quality arm speed and very nice arm whip.
FB: T75, 72-75 mph. Plays fairly flat. Has a little bit of armside movement and moderate carry. Plays well up in zone but anything below the letters looks very hittable. Displays solid command, pounding the upper half of the zone. T2219, 2127 average rpm.
CB: 65-66 mph. Flashes quality movement, but the shape is very inconsistent. Often times flattens out and does not get enough depth, but when it does it looks very sharp. It is not thrown super hard, which makes it float to the plate, losing some element of surprise and sharpness. Does not locate down in the zone consistently, but flashes potential of quality corner locations. T1955, 1891 average rpm.
CH: 69-70 mph. Quality fading action. Like the curveball it floats to the plate but its action is sharper and tighter, which allows it to play better. Displays strong feel for the pitch, specifically armside and low in the zone. T1614, 1591 average rpm.
CUT: 68-69 mph. Plays with slight cut.

Emilio Estrada, Franklin High School (CA), 2029
Positional Profile: OF/LHP Small frame that packs a solid bat and 3 interesting pitch shapes, though pitching is much more raw.
Body: 5-5.3, 127-pounds. Strong athlete for his size. Very small frame but solid power packed into it. Hitting a growth spurt would create a quality athlete.
Delivery: Compact, simple, efficient delivery. Has a bad habit of not maintaining good posture, sinking way down on his leg kick, which has negative effects on command and velocity. Gets solid extension but isn't much because of his small stature. Does not get glove arm out, which affects command.
Arm Action: LH. Stiff arm action. Straight back, short, locked reach back into 3/4 arm slot. Quality arm speed and whip add a little deceptiveness, but overall nothing too unique about the arm action. Needs to loosen up in order to gain velocity and command.
FB: T75.8, 74-75 mph. Sinker that has strong run and some downward bite. Has some hard late action that helps surprise hitters. Locates it well for strikes as well as getting groundballs down in the zone. Shape can be inconsistent.
CB: 62-63 mph. Tight, quick break when thrown well. Strong downward snap with some late movement. His best pitch shape, he commands it glove side well but need to improve on backdooring it. T1796, 1757 average rpm.
CH: 69-70 mph. Some interesting fading action, it looks a lot like his sinker and sometimes does not have the necessary speed difference. Shape is almost exactly like the sinker except for a little more vertical movement than horizontal movement. Throws it for strikes but shape can be inconsistent. T1193, 1115 average rpm.

Rhythm Green, McKinleyville High (CA), 2027
Positional Profile: SS/RHP Potential power bat with a better future as a pitcher with a strong fastball and quality breaking ball.
Body: 5-10.8, 177-pounds. Slightly blocky but still quality athlete with room in the legs for real power.
Delivery: Strong leg kick. Stays very compact and simple. Gets quality extension. Easily repeatable. Needs to rotate hips more to unlock some extra velocity.
Arm Action: RH. Excellent arm action. Deep reach back, very fast arm, high quality arm whip. Slingshots into 3/4 release point and offers some deception because of the deep reach back and quickness. Very repeatable as well.
FB: T85, 82-84 mph. Strong carry but not much run. Slingshots out of his hand with very tight spin that creates the illusion of it just exploding towards the plate. Has a little latle life that makes it better. Kind of all over the place with command, shows flashes of good locations but misses low and armside a lot. T2463, 2388 average rpm.
CB: 69-70 mph. Showcases some sharp downward bite and inconsistent late movement. Tight spin and the better of his two breaking balls. Unlike the slider, if he hangs it he can get away with it via its sharpness. Shows he can land it for strikes and keep it low. T2094, 1975 average rpm.
SL: 71-73 mph. More like a slurve or sweeper, it has strong break but that break is not super sharp. If he is not careful the pitch can just lazily sit in the zone. Displays quality strike throwing ability with the pitch. T2191, 2094 average rpm.

Nat Ha, Vista del Lago High (CA), 2028
Positional Profile: SS/2B Strong athlete with a lot of power in his bat and a good cutter and arm action on the mound.
Body: 6-0.2, 169-pounds. High quality athlete, well put together with large frame.
Delivery: Maintains good posture. Strong leg kick and quality extension with active energy heading down the mound. High effort, not always repeatable as shoulders can get off kilter, but is high quality when he gets things going correctly.
Arm Action: RH. Slingshot arm action with strong deception. Very quick and downward reach back into quality arm speed and whip of a 3/4 armslot. Seems to repeat it pretty well, even if it is high effort.
FB: T83, 81-82 mph. Has a quality sneaky carry action because of his motion and arm action. Minimal horizontal movement. Can locate low in the zone, but also misses low too often and does not display an ability to locate up in the zone. T2251, 2127 average rpm.
CB: 64-64 mph. Big, looping action that is easy to see out of the hand. Straight down bite and when thrown well will make hitters give up on it early. Can throw it for strikes consistently, though the quality of those strikes leaves something to be desired. T1900, 1876 average rpm.
CH: 74-76 mph. Plays fairly flat, seems to be more of just a slower version of his fastball. No late movement, not much movement overall. Locates it armside well but not consistent in any location. T1785, 1660 average rpm.
CUT: 72-73 mph. Has a hard, late cutting action. When thrown well explodes with late movement. At times turns into a sharp slider, which is perfectly fine. All horizontal movement, not really any vertical movement. His best pitch, he locates it gloveside consistently, though is prone to yanking it as well.

Preston Hillis, Las Lomas High (CA), 2028
Positional Profile: RHP/SS Strong athlete that uses his athleticism well both at the plate and in the field. His future is on the mound with a strong fastball and quality changeup.
Body: 5-9.5, 162-pounds. Very strong athlete with room to continue growing.
Delivery: Clean, relaxed delivery with some effort but not too much. Gets high quality extension, getting down the mound very quickly. Maintains good posture and loads on his back leg well. Gets very nice hip rotation.
Arm Action: RH. Very quick and powerful arm action with 3/4 release point. Excellent energy with some deception.
FB: T88, 86-87 mph. Tight spin with strong carry and solid armside run. Velocity and extension work well together to give even more rise and some extra deception. Locates is all around the zone consistently. T2250, 2171 average rpm.
CB: 67-71 mph. Has solid break but is a bit loopy. Doesn't have any late action and is not deceptive. Does not come as a surprise and he tips the pitch by slowing his arm down. Can locate it consistently but features large misses horizontally. T1980, 1912 average rpm.
SNK: 85.4, 82-85 mph. Quality horizontal fading movement. Has some solid late movement and sharpness. While it seems too firm at times, the movement really differentiates the pitch to stand out. Locates it well armside.

Brandon Hurtado, Freedom High (CA), 2029
Positional Profile: 2B/SS Quality fielder and fundamental pitcher with a lot of room to grow.
Body: 5-10.6, 144-pounds. Long legs, light upper body, a lot of room to grow and fill out. Projectable.
Delivery: Fantastic posture and relaxed start to his motion. Stays very compact and controlled. Strong leg kick and solid extension allow for quality hip rotation. Follows through with a lot of energy.
Arm Action: RH. 3/4 arm slot with quality speed and solid whip. Reach back is deep, controlled, and smooth. Will gain more arm speed as he gets stronger. Technique is very efficient.
FB: T83, 79-82 mph. Minimal horizontal movement but strong carry with tight spin. Plays well up in the zone. Effectiveness likely sees a steep dropoff if he does not consistently hit the upper parts of the strike zone. Misses armside mostly, but overall strong command of the pitch. T2606, 2467 average rpm.
CB: 71-72 mph. Does not always get a consistent shape. When thrown well it has really tight and sudden break with quality late life. It gets loopy and dull at times and left up in the zone. Can throw it for strikes. T2737, 2679 average rpm.
CH: 76-77 mph. Has some armside run but mostly fades down vertically. Sometimes lacks enough movement overall. Locates well on the corners but not low enough consistently. T1460, 1280 average rpm.

Julian Quezada, Westmont High (CA), 2029
Positional Profile: C/RHP Strong build with a quality arm and bat path. Has good command and high energy motion on the mound.
Body: 5-11.5, 186-pounds. Big, standard catcher frame, solid athlete, heavyset top.
Delivery: Strong posture with a lot of effort and violence. Gets incredible hip rotation and strong extension, getting down the mound quickly with ease. Stays compact at the start, lets energy carry him off gloveside at the end.
Arm Action: RH. Solid reach back, strong arm speed and quality arm whip. High 3/4 armslot does not offer too much deception.
FB: T82, 82-82 mph. Plays pretty flat, some solid carry but no horizontal movement. It plays more dead than you would think given his motion. Seems to command it up in the zone well. T2230, 2127 average rpm.
CB: 72-72 mph. Straight down bite. Can spin as oppose to break at times, but overall shape is solid. Not super sharp, but has the movement and has good corner location. T1777, 1777 average rpm.
SL: 72-72 mph. T1843, 1700 average rpm.
SPLT: 72-73 mph. Solid armside fade, has some trouble locating it and keeping it out of danger zones. Looks too much like the fastball at times but the movement is different enough most of the time.

David Rapoport, Junipero Serra High School (CA), 2030
Positional Profile: SS/RHP Projectable athlete with strong power potential and solid glove and a solid curveball.
Body: 5-10.6, 160-pounds. Tall upper half, quite projectable, could be a better athlete but not necessarily a runner.
Delivery: Compact motion. Hands drift backwards before breaking, which sometimes delays his break. Needs more hip rotation, does not finish consistently. Solid extension.
Arm Action: RH. Solid arm speed, moderate arm whip. Deep reachback into high 3/4 release. No deception. Fairly repeatable.
FB: T75, 72-74 mph. Plays flat and straight. Not much carry or break. Likely his worst pitch shape. Yanks it gloveside, but commands up in the zone. T1992, 1883 average rpm.
CB: 64-67 mph. Big, downward break, no horizontal break. While it can be too loopy at times and doesn't have super sharp break, it still works well. Locates it well, especially as a two strike pitch. T2138, 2073 average rpm.
SL: 64-68 mph. Basically just his curveball, though sometimes he is able to get shorter and tighter break on it. Has essentially the same profile as the curve. Locates it the same as well. T2120, 2084 average rpm.

Louis Rivera III, Central Catholic High School (CA), 2027
Positional Profile: SS/RHP Stocky athlete with a fly ball approach and solid curveball.
Body: 5-7.5, 174-pounds. Short, stocky, heavy top.
Delivery: Very compact, relaxed, no wasted movement. Deliberate and slow leg kick, does not go all the way up. Strong extension for his frame.
Arm Action: RH. Strong arm speed and arm whip. 3/4 armslot with some deception thanks to a quick and semi-short reachback where he hides the ball a little bit. Repeatable action.
FB: T79, 77-78 mph. Has good spin but plays flat, not much movement any way. Throws it for strikes consistently, but it seems like an easy pitch to hit as the profile is not great. T1934, 1805 average rpm.
CB: 65-66 mph. Tight spin and relatively big and sharp break. Gets loopy at times but he is able to snap it relatively consistently. Can throw it for strikes consistently but not always down in the zone. T2302, 2212 average rpm.
SL: 66-68 mph. T2256, 2221 average rpm.

Elias Sonnenberg, Granite Bay High (CA), 2028
Positional Profile: RHP/3B Tall athlete with loose arm action and strong bat control.
Body: 6-2.1, 174-pounds. Pitcher like build, tall with long legs, strong frame.
Delivery: Very upright, compact, keeps strong composure. Upper body can get a bit stiff. Needs to unlock hips more. Strong extension.
Arm Action: RH. Deep, whippy reach back. Offers a little deception, but high release point takes it away mostly. Very loose arm action, not always repeatable.
FB: T83, 82-83 mph. Not too much movement, some carry but not too much. Velo makes it a little better. Pounds the zone, though quality can be found lacking. Needs to work on pitch shape. T1920, 1732 average rpm.
CB: 63-65 mph. Inconsistent shape, can be loopy, flat, or sharp. Likely because of loose arm action. Can throw for strikes but misses up and big misses armside. T1567, 1470 average rpm.
SL: 67-69 mph. T1717, 1625 average rpm.
CH: 70-73 mph. Solid fading action, inconsistent locations. Displays a lot of promise, his best pitch. Movement is there, needs to make sure it does not get too firm. T1432, 1342 average rpm.

Boston Wood, Liberty High (CA), 2028
Positional Profile: OF/RHP Smooth swing and quality fielder with a very repeatable delivery suited for throwing strikes.
Body: 5-7.9, 150-pounds. Strong, blocky athlete.
Delivery: Compact, highly repeatable motion. Maintains strong posture with a strong leg kick. Gets quality extension and entire delivery sets him up well to throw a lot of strikes. Upper body can get stiff at times.
Arm Action: RH. Solid arm speed, solid arm whip. Deep and efficient reach back with a little deception. If he becomes less stiff in upper body he can loosen it up even more. High 3/4 release that does not add any more deception.
FB: T71, 69-71 mph. Plays pretty flat due to lack of velo. Some horizontal movement but no signs of quality carry. Throws strikes with the pitch, specifically up in the zone. T2279, 2197 average rpm.
CB: 60-63 mph. Big, slow, straight down 12-6 break. Starts out incredibly high and just falls down. Will steal strikes and gets some swings, but doesn't have the sharpness to be a reliable swing and miss pitch. Throws is for strikes, though misses armside a lot. T2453, 2265 average rpm.
CH: 69-70 mph. Some fading action, but mostly is just like his fastball, and does not have the proper speed difference. Essentially just a slow fastball. Throws if for strikes and can locate down in zone. T1375, 1301 average rpm.
