The 2026 MHSAA State Championships are underway at Trustmark Park, as teams from across the state battle for a chance to bring home a state title. Throughout the week, some of Mississippi’s top talent will take the field in Pearl, delivering high-level competition, standout individual performances, and memorable moments on the biggest stage of the high school season. Each day, we’ll recap all the action from the MHSAA State Championship games at Trustmark Park.

+ Mooreville (15) vs. Poplarville (8)

Mooreville rolled to a high-scoring 15-8 win over Poplarville on Tuesday at Trustmark Park, using an explosive start offensively to seize control early and never look back. The Troopers plated four runs in the opening inning behind RBI swings from McDaniels and Cates before continuing to add on throughout the night, extending the lead with another RBI double from McDaniels in the second and a four-run third inning fueled by a Floyd RBI single and a Poplarville error. McDaniels starred on both sides of the ball, going 3-for-4 at the plate while also tossing 6.2 innings on the mound, striking out seven while working through traffic for the win. Cates and McDaniels each drove in three runs as Mooreville totaled nine hits and seven walks in the victory, consistently applying pressure offensively. Floyd chipped in with a pair of hits, while the Troopers also turned a double play defensively. Poplarville battled throughout and finished with 11 hits of its own, led by Keys’ three-hit performance and a pair of hits from McCurdy, but Mooreville’s early offensive surge proved too much to overcome in the opening game at Trustmark Park.

+ Pearl River Central (12) vs. Saltillo (11)

Pearl River Central and Saltillo put together one of the wildest games of the day on Tuesday at Trustmark Park, with the Blue Devils ultimately walking it off in dramatic fashion for a 12-11 win. Trailing late after Saltillo erased an early deficit and grabbed a 10-8 lead in the sixth, Pearl River Central answered in the bottom of the seventh as Morreale delivered the biggest swing of the game with a bases-clearing triple before Mavor Jr. followed with the walk-off single to seal the victory. Pearl River Central exploded for seven runs in the third inning to briefly take control after Saltillo had jumped ahead 3-1 behind a two-run triple from Reynolds, but the Tigers continued to battle back throughout the night, tying the game in the fifth and reclaiming the lead an inning later. Morreale paced the Blue Devils offensively with a 3-for-5 performance and four RBIs, while the lineup totaled 12 hits and drew eight walks in the win. Saltillo matched the offensive firepower with 11 hits of its own, led by Rogers’ three-hit night, while Reynolds, Heisel, and Pee each drove in multiple runs. The two teams combined for 23 runs, 23 hits, and 16 walks in a back-and-forth playoff atmosphere before Pearl River Central delivered the final blow in walk-off fashion.

  • Kendall Morrison, Blake Gill, Talon Cipriano, Landyn Wilson & Parker Harper all had one hit in the win for PRC
  • Luke Reynolds (Saltillo) had one hit and two RBI's
  • Ejay Rogers (Saltillo) was 3-4 with an RBI
  • Jase Pee (Saltillo) was 2-3 with 2 RBI's
  • Logan Heisel (Saltillo) drove in a pair on one hit
  • Levin Darsey, Tucker Phillips, Madden McKissisck & Maddox Arriola all had one hit each for Saltillo

+ Sumrall (7) vs. Pontotoc (4)

Sumrall picked up a 7-4 win over Pontotoc on Tuesday at Trustmark Park behind timely offense and a strong outing on the mound from Davis. The Bobcats jumped out early with a four-run first inning, capitalizing on a pair of Pontotoc errors along with RBI production from Bond and Hicks to establish momentum. Barrett delivered the biggest swing of the night in the third inning, launching a three-run homer to left field that highlighted a four-RBI performance and helped Sumrall maintain control throughout. Davis worked six solid innings to earn the win, allowing just two runs while striking out six, and McCoy later closed things out with the save. Sumrall played clean baseball defensively, turning two double plays without committing an error, while Hawkins added pressure on the bases with three stolen bags. Pontotoc stayed competitive offensively behind Wilson’s three RBIs and multi-hit performances from Witcher and Clayton, but Sumrall’s early offensive surge and steady pitching proved to be the difference in the 7-4 victory.

  • Corbyn Clayton (Pontotoc) was 2-3 and reached on a walk
  • Cayson Witcher (Pontotoc) was 2-4 at the plate
  • John Scott Wilson (Pontotoc) had a double and 3 RBI's
  • Miller Finn, Chayton Johnson & Josiah Berry each had one hit for Pontotoc

+ Petal (9) vs. Oxford (2)

Petal used a balanced offensive attack and strong pitching to earn a convincing 9-2 win over Oxford on Tuesday at Trustmark Park. The Panthers received key production from the bottom half of the lineup, as Freeman, Holder, and Cahill combined for four hits, two runs scored, and two RBIs to help spark the offense throughout the night. Petal struck early with a three-run first inning before extending the lead in the second behind an RBI single from Howell to make it 6-0, then capitalized on an Oxford error in the third to continue building separation. Howell drove in two runs from the middle of the lineup, while Freeman and Holder each collected multi-hit performances. On the mound, left-hander Giger turned in a strong outing, allowing just two hits and no earned runs over 5.2 innings while striking out five, helping keep Oxford’s offense in check all night. Petal also applied pressure on the bases with six stolen bags and showed patience at the plate with seven walks, controlling the game from start to finish in the 9-2 victory.

  • Easton Giger (Petal) worked 1.1 IP out of the bullpen, collecting 1 K.
  • James Blackwood, Pryce Pinkins & Logan Dorrell each had one hit for Oxford.
