Last Friday we checked out a tightly contested Emerald Sound Conference match-up with Overlake visiting home squad King’s.

OVERLAKE VS KING'S (4.24.26)

OVERLAKE

Overlake is coming off a strong 2025 campaign where they advanced to the 1A semi-finals in Bellingham while King’s is looking to finish the year strong with some crucial conference match-ups on the way.

For the visitor’s, they gave the ball to talented ‘27 SS/RHP Brendan Winkler. The Army commit was a breakout prospect last year after a highly successful sophomore campaign and a quality performance at the PNW State Games later on in the summer. Winkler has an intriguing blend of present stuff and talent while offering projection that he can still tap into. The lean, wiry frame shows tons of elasticity and he’s hyper mobile through his delivery. It’s a highly rotational first move as he gathers which can cause the front side to be a little inconsistent at times but in the long run his athleticism coupled with more strength should tighten up the operation.

FB 85-88, T89
SL 74-76, hard downer bite
CH 77

Finished with a final line of 5 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 5 K

For the offense, it was a tough day overall as they only racked up 2 hits across the 7 innings.

Uncommitted ‘27 OF/P Daniel Weintraub had a quality showing from the leadoff spot going 1-2 with a single and BB. He also added 1 very brief inning on the mound as he racked up 3 outs on only 6 total pitches. It was a quick, FB only showing where he ran it up to 84-86 with some heavier life on the heater. 2-way talent to keep an eye on in the 2027 class.

Senior OF Alex Hoss added the only other hit for Overlake with a single in the 4th inning.

KING'S

For the home team, the King’s Knights relied on a strong starting effort from uncommitted ‘27 Sam Ruhlman and got just enough offense in this one to push across 2 runs en route to the victory.

Ruhlman finished with a final line of 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 3 K

FB worked in the 78-82 range with some sinking action and he did a nice job commanding the bottom of the zone while also running it in on RHH consistently. The CB shows more sweeping action in the 68-72 range and provided enough speed differential to disrupt timing and change eye levels. Very poised and competitive presence on the bump.

Offensively, 2 uncommitted 2027 prospects delivered the most damage in this one. INF Nate Bjella squared up a FB for a hard single up the middle to bring in a runner from 3rd in the 2nd inning.

Later in the contest, ‘27 C Nate Echelbarger showed some pop from the left-side with a deep RBI 2B into RF that nearly left the yard. The lefty stick put a tight turn on the ball while keeping compact levers and bracing up against a strong front side.

‘26 OF Jakob Fowler (George Fox) added a 2B of his own and also for a save on the bump while firing a clean 7th inning while punching out 1. Fowler is a physically built OF/2-way prospect with a sturdy upper-half and athletic actions in all facets of his game. Quick runner when he gets underway. Offensively he can really impact the baseball and is a gap to gap power threat with an EV that we’ve seen up to 99 mph in a showcase setting.
