KC Super Select: Tournament Preview

The KC Super Select is one of the more unique tournament formats with each pool being sorted into pods of four with each team's results determining their next matchup. This in turn makes game one being just as important if not more than any other game on the schedule. That being said I am excited to see how coaches handle specifically their pitching matchups throughout the weekend with every game feeling like a must win situation.

Last Year's Top Performers

14u Cavaliers - Maroon looks to repeat in the Super Select after last years squad took home the 14u D2 championship in a tale of close bouts down the stretch to secure the trophy. If they can repeat composure in the big moments like they did last year this is a team primed to make another run come Friday. Prime 27:17 - Black is on a terror to start the spring winning the last 3 PBKC events in a row with plans to repeat their success in the 13u D1 bracket last year to make it 4 straight tournament wins. A well coached team with the talent that Prime has available to it is no doubt a heavy favorite to find themselves holding a banner on Sunday in the winners circle for 14u D1. The Old School Ducks come into this weekend looking to get over the final hump after a championship loss in the Super Select last year. Between two talented rosters finding their way into the 14u D1 pools it would be a surprise to not see one playing deep into the Sunday slate. (Old School Ducks - Williams & Old School Ducks - Croucher). Mavericks AE 14u also finds themselves back this year with a retooled roster consisting of the same core that took Mavericks to the 13u D2 championship in last years Super Select. The Mavericks find themselves matched up with two storied programs around the KC area that will be a strong test to see if they can win it all this year in the 14u D2 bracket.

Other Champions looking to repeat: Building Champions - Hernandez (13u D2), BPC Reds (12u D1), Competitive Edge (10u D3)

This Year's Favorites

Outside of the previously mentioned teams making the trip back this weekend there are some other teams with storied histories and strong rosters find themselves among the ranks of those looking to take home a championship. Building Champions - Pena has found themselves deep into bracket play on more than one occasion this spring with a strong lineup and arms to match, if they find themselves playing clean baseball there would be no doubt they could win it all. The Cangelosi Sparks are as tenured of a program as they come in the travel baseball scene and consistently put together strong rosters of well coached athletes. For those reasons, Cangelosi Sparks - Jirik lands high on the radar to make a deep run in their first trip to KC. Sandlot Baseball is another long running program full of college commitments and draft picks hailing out of Tulsa, OK with strong ties to the KC area and talented rosters to boot Sandlot - Roberts also find themselves at the top of the pre-tournament board this weekend.

Teams Making The Trip

The PBKC Super Select is set to host 23 teams outside of the Kansas/Missouri state lines hailing from 8 different states from Colorado to Illionis as they look to take home a championship this weekend. On behalf of myself and the rest of the PBKC crew we're glad to have each and every one of these teams and can't wait to see how they represent their cities this upcoming weekend.
