TOP GAMES RECAP

April 2: Punahou 4, 'Iolani 2
Punahou created its separation right out of the gate and let the pitching do the rest in a 4-2 win over 'Iolani. Punahou put all four runs on the board in the 1st, using quality at-bats, pressure on the bases, and a couple of run-producing swings to grab control early. From there, the game slowed down and turned into a low-scoring look on both sides, with very little offensive rhythm for either lineup over the middle innings. 'Iolani scratched across one in the 6th and another in the 7th, but Punahou had already done enough early to stay in front.

Micah Bennett was the story here. The lefty dominated across 6.0 innings, allowing just one hit while striking out 10 and controlling the game from the start. He stayed on the attack, missed barrels, and never really let the Raiders settle in offensively. At the plate, Daly Watson helped set the tone with a two-hit day and later recorded the final out on the mound. Jaron Lancaster came through with an RBI single in the opening frame, while Jase Kaneshiro added an RBI double as part of the early damage. Kekoa Payanal also chipped in with a hit, a run scored, and a stolen base in a game where that first-inning pressure ended up being the separator.

'Iolani did not get much going offensively, but Brennan Kim gave them a real chance to hang around after the rough opening inning. He settled things down with 6.0 innings of three-hit ball and no earned runs allowed, keeping the game within reach the rest of the way. Kale Omori and Brady Minami accounted for the two hits. The Raiders made it a little interesting late, but Punahou’s start on the mound and early four-run burst were enough to close it out.

April 3: Mililani 3, Campbell 2
Mililani did just enough early, then leaned on the arms the rest of the way in a 3-2 win over Campbell. The Trojans grabbed control with a two-run 2nd, added another in the 6th, and that ended up being enough in a game where offense was tough to string together on both sides. Campbell made its push in the 5th to even things up, but Mililani answered right back and closed it out late.

Ayden Kanno was one of the bigger offensive pieces for Mililani, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, RBI, and run scored. KJ Marzo added a hit, a run scored, and a stolen base at the top, while Ezra Ugale gave the Trojans a steady 5.0 innings on the mound before Ajay Moss came in and finished it off with five strikeouts over the final two innings.

Campbell got a good look from freshman lefty Blake Fujii, who kept things under control for most of the day with 6.0 innings, four hits allowed, and just one earned run. Vaden Sabino led the Sabers offensively with a two-hit day and an RBI, while Jonah Yacap also collected two hits, including a double, and reached base three times.

April 4: Kaiser 9, Roosevelt 6
Kaiser held off Roosevelt in a 9-6 win on Saturday. The Cougars put up three in the 1st, added another in the 2nd, then broke things open with a five-run 4th to create separation. Roosevelt put together a real push in the 5th behind some loud contact, but Kaiser held on to close it out.

Caleb Hamasaki had a 3-for-4 day at the plate with an RBI, run scored, and a stolen base. Noah Sham also had a strong all-around game, reaching three times, driving in two, scoring once, and recording two stolen bases. Dru Ashimine added on with a double, two runs scored, and a walk, while Jake Sui and Jackson Wood both came through with two RBIs. Colby Taniguchi gave Kaiser an important look out of the bullpen, working 2.2 scoreless innings with three strikeouts to help secure the win.

Roosevelt had no shortage of offense in this one, led by Luke Tuasivi, who went 4-for-4 with three doubles, three RBIs, and a walk while also giving them an inning on the mound. Mackie Doi added three hits and an RBI, and Larken Nakasone chipped in an RBI double. The Rough Riders finished with 12 hits and applied pressure throughout, but Kaiser’s five-run 4th ended up being the decider.

April 6: Kamehameha Kapalama 7, Mid-Pacific 5
Kamehameha Kapalama did its damage early and held off multiple Mid-Pacific pushes late to secure a 7-5 win. The Warriors broke things open with a four-run 2nd inning, capitalizing on traffic, free bases, and timely swings to grab early control. Mid-Pacific chipped away with a run in the 3rd, two more in the 4th, and another pair in the 5th to eventually knot the game at 5-5, but the Warriors answered each time the pressure mounted and executed in the biggest spots over the final two innings.

Ryeder Takahashi delivered the biggest offensive blow for Kamehameha Kapalama, finishing 2-for-4 with 4 RBI while also turning in a clean inning on the mound. His run-producing swings helped build the early cushion, then he came through again with the go-ahead knock in the 6th as KMHM reclaimed the lead for good. Kupono Barkdull added a multi-hit effort and reached base three times, Kino Adams chipped in a pair of hits, and Coen Sardinha impacted the game in multiple ways with two runs scored while creating pressure on the bases. Tyce Tamashiro added an insurance RBI in the 7th, and Kala’i Garcia worked a clean inning and was credited with the win.

Mid-Pacific stayed within reach throughout the middle innings. Ezekiel Asato led the way with a three-hit day that included a double, RBI, and run scored, while Maximus Taniguchi and Troy Higashi each turned in two-hit efforts. Reese Higuchi also made his presence felt with a triple, RBI, two walks, and a run scored, but the early deficit proved just a little too much to fully overcome.

St. Louis stayed on the gas offensively and outlasted 'Iolani in a 12-8 win on Monday. STL scored in five different innings, putting up four in the 3rd, then adding three in both the 6th and 7th to build enough room late. 'Iolani answered with a six-run 6th and added another in the 7th, but the Crusaders had already done enough damage to stay in front.

Kahanu Martinez was in the middle of it all for the Crusaders, finishing 2-for-3 with a triple, 2 RBI, 3 runs scored, 2 stolen bases, a walk, and an HBP. Jonah Brub gave them a solid start, working 5.0 innings with one earned run allowed, then also added a double and RBI at the plate. Dane Kaaihue and Drake Kenui each had two hits and an RBI, while Cole “Nalu” Antone drove in two.
