Prep Baseball Illinois Player of the Week: Caleb Hornbrook

By: Peter Hamot
Assistant Scouting Director, Illinois & Wisconsin

The Pioneers are off to a scorching start, finishing last week at a perfect 3-0 clip, sitting at 4-0 on the year now. Lake Land commit Caleb Hornbrook (2026) was a huge part of their success, finishing the week at an eye-opening 9-for-10 clip with a home run, triple, two doubles, 11 RBIs, a run scored and two walks. For his efforts and outstanding performance, he has been named the first Player of the Week for the 2026 season.

He got things going right away on opening day, going a perfect 4-for-4 in a 10-0 win over Normal West, also collecting a triple, double and two RBIs.

He tore it up at the Kickoff classic, helping the Pioneers to an 11-1 win over Oswego on Friday, finishing 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.

Arguably his best performance came later that day in an 18-2 victory over Champaign Central, where he went 3-for-3 with a home run, six RBIs and a run scored.

Currently the No. 104 ranked player in the state, Hornbrook is a strong right-handed hitter that will be a key piece in the Pioneers’ lineup this spring. There's a feel to hit combined with raw power and triple-digit exit velocities, making him a scary matchup for almost any arm in the state. He is also a talented backstop with tools to help limit the run-game (T81 mph; 1.88 pop-time), providing a ton of value at a premium position. Already off to a stellar start, Hornbrook will be one to keep an eye on this spring for U-High.

C Caleb Hornbrook (Normal University, 2026) consistently shows well for our staff as a hard worker behind the plate. He works to present pitches around the zone for strikes with soft hands and subtle frames, getting under the baseball with ease. During the workout sported poptimes in the 1.88-2.03 second range while getting up to 81 mph from the chute. He also got numerous quality swings off with some power in his right-handed swing - showed intentful hacks while staying on top of the baseball. During the showcase portion, produced a max exit velocity of 100.2 and an average of 93.6 mph.
