Notable Recaps from Wednesday

Hewitt-Trussville (5) vs. Northridge (2)
No. 10 Hewitt-Trussville knocked off No. 2 Northridge 5-2 on Wednesday in a Top-10 Alabama Power 25 showdown. The Huskies set the tone early, scoring in each of the first three innings behind a sacrifice fly from Hudson Mitchell, an error in the second, and another sacrifice fly from Cale McIntosh to build a 3-0 lead. Mitchell was dominant on the mound, tossing six innings while allowing two runs (one earned) and striking out nine. McIntosh closed it out to earn the save. At the plate, Blake Bales and McIntosh each collected two hits, while four different players drove in runs. Hewitt-Trussville also created pressure on the bases with four stolen bases and played clean defense to secure the statement win.

Thompson (10) vs. Hoover (6)
No. 4 Thompson earned a 10-6 win over No. 6 Hoover on Wednesday in a Top-10 Class 7A showdown. Hoover struck first in the second inning, but Thompson answered immediately and seized control with a big bottom half. The Warriors plated multiple runs in both the second and third innings, capitalizing on timely hitting and a few miscues to build a lead they would not relinquish. Harper Quang powered the offense with four RBIs, delivering a two-run double in the second before adding a two-run single in the third. Thompson continued to apply pressure offensively to create separation. On the mound, Wyatt Williams set the tone with a strong start, striking out 10 over five innings while allowing just three hits and two runs. Hoover mounted a late push and finished with multiple hits from Jaxson Wood and Hudson Oliver, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome as Thompson held on for the win.

Orange Beach (3, 2) vs. St. Michael Catholic (1, 1)
Orange Beach secured a crucial doubleheader sweep over St. Michael Catholic on Wednesday, taking Games 2 and 3 of the area series after dropping Game 1 earlier in the week. In Game 2, the Makos leaned on a strong outing from Campbell Tillman, who tossed a complete game while allowing just one run. Orange Beach got on the board in the second on a two-run single from James Nuetze and added insurance in the sixth on a solo home run from Ethan O’Meara. The nightcap featured another tight pitching battle, with Orange Beach edging out a 2-1 win. O’Meara was dominant on the mound, striking out 10 over 4.1 innings while allowing just one hit. The Makos struck early with RBI singles from Ward Hickman in the first and Nuetze in the second, and Ben Pugh closed it out to secure the sweep. Orange Beach used strong pitching performances in both games to control the series, winning both contests by one and two runs, respectively, in a pivotal area matchup.
