2026 KSHSAA Team Preview: Life Prep Fire

Prep Baseball Kansas Staff

The Kansas high school baseball season kicks off on Mar. 19, opening day for regular season action under KSHSAA regulations. Leading up to opening day, we’ll be publishing our team previews ahead of the 2026 spring season, touching on programs spanning all state classifications, counting down to the official Prep Baseball Kansas Preseason Power 25 Rankings.

Perennially, we’ve submitted a preseason questionnaire to high school head coaches across the entire state. Their responses have been flooding in and we’re using the detailed insight they’ve provided in our team-by-team preseason analysis.

Our 2026 preseason coverage continues today.

Top Returners:

  • Ivan Reid (2026) - RHP/OF, 6'0 165, R/R
    • 38.1 IP, 2.00 ERA, 41/15 K/BB
    • Pure strike thrower who will lead our pitching staff. Will also be a key piece in our lineup with great speed and gap to gap power.
  • Cooper Brown (2026) - LHP/1B, 5'11 235, L/L
    • Butler CC commit
    • .414 BA, 3 HR, 17 RBI; 29.1 IP, 1.43 ERA
    • Cooper will lead our lineup from the middle of the order. Great combination of power and bat control and will deliver a lot of great at bats.
  • Arthur Rolle (2026) - LHP/OF, 6'0 165, L/L
    • Cloud County CC commit
    • .292 BA, 7 SB; 10.2 IP
    • Arthur has fantastic stuff on the mound and we are looking for him to close a lot of games this spring. He will also provide a steady presence in our lineup as a returning starter.
  • Luis Puerta (2028) - SS, 5'9 180, R/R
    • Luis will be one of the best defenders in the state and will control our defense by anchoring SS.
  • Gabriel Chavelas (2027) - 2B, 5'7 155, R/R
    • Gabriel is one of our leaders and anchors in the infield at 2B. He controls the bat well and does the little things right that can help us win a lot of games.
  • Joshua Severino (2026) - 3B/DH, 6'0 210, R/R
    • Hit over .350 the last 3 weeks of the season. Poised for a big senior year.

Top Newcomers:

  • Roderick Gutierrez (2027) - UTL, 5'8 155, S/R
    • Roderick is one of our most versatile players. He should be at the top of our lineup, will play all over the diamond and may get some innings out of the pen for us.
  • Johan Villaman (2027) - OF, 6'1 180, R/R
    • Johan is a great defender and will be in the middle of our lineup this spring.
  • Abdel Yarala (2027) - RHP, 6'3 220, R/R
    • Abdel is a big time presence on the mound with a good pitch mix. Did not play a big role last year but we are excited for him to take a step up from last season.

Key Players Lost:

Coach’s Insight: “The backbone of our team is our defense and our team chemistry. We have a lot of guys who can defend at a high level and we have a team that trusts and cares for one another which is a powerful thing for us. If we can pound the zone, play great defense and get some timely hits then we are going to have a great spring. We are inexperienced at some key positions but those positions will gain key game experience and they will be challenged early with our schedule which will set us up for success as the season goes on.” – Cody Troyer, head coach
