Prep Baseball Louisiana: 2026 Diamond Notes (Week 7)

The Prep Baseball Louisiana Diamond Notes serves as an opportunity for our staff to highlight players, from across the state, that put up impressive performances on a given week, yet fell short of our Mizuno Player & Pitcher of the Week honors.

Pitcher of the Week (Week 7)

Bradyn Cupit LHP / West Monroe, LA / 2026

Cupit has been one of the state’s premier arms since the moment he stepped on campus at West Monroe, and the LSU recruit is putting the finishing touches on a dominant senior campaign.

Last Thursday in a district showdown against Pineville, the veteran southpaw was simply overpowering—spinning a complete game no-hitter with just three walks and 12 strikeouts on 87 pitches (64% strikes).

With that performance, Cupit surpassed the 300-strikeout mark for his career, now sitting at 301 punchouts for the Rebels. On the season, he owns a 6-1 record with a sparkling 1.01 ERA and 70 strikeouts across 41 innings pitched—continuing to cement his status as one of Louisiana’s elite arms.

 

 

Player of the Week (Week 7)

Landen Derouen SS / RHP / Erath, LA / 2027

Derouen has been on an absolute tear this spring, and his hot streak continued in a big way during Week 7 for Erath. Across four games, the uncommitted junior went 5-for-9 (.556) with a home run, 2 doubles, a triple, 9 RBI, and 4 runs scored—impacting the game every time he stepped in the box.

On the season, Derouen is hitting an eye-popping .563 with 4 home runs, 13 doubles, 1 triple, 34 RBI, and 27 runs scored. Even more impressive is his elite strike-zone discipline, as he’s drawn 16 walks to just 2 strikeouts—underscoring just how advanced his approach is at the plate.

 

 

Other Notable Performances (Week 7)

Andrew Sharp SS / RHP / Captain Shreve, LA / 2026

The former Future Gamer and LSU-Eunice recruit went 6-for-9 (.667) with 1 triple, 5 runs batted in, 6 runs scored, and also stole 3 bases last week for the Gators. He also logged 1.2 innings and allowed 1 earned run on 2 hits with 0 walks and 4 strikeouts.

Denton Hester RHP / 1B / Captain Shreve, LA / 2026

The former Senior Future Gamer and Bossier Parish recruit hit at a .625 clip last week with 1 home run, 1 double, 1 triple, and 6 runs batted in. Hester also picked up a win on the mound after throwing 4.2 innings with 4 strikeouts.

 

Kade Thomas SS / West Monroe, LA / 2026

Thomas went 6-for-10 with 3 doubles, 6 runs batted in, and 2 runs scored for the Rebels last week.

Brodie Taylor 3B / 1B / West Monroe, LA / 2029

Last week against Pineville, Taylor went 2-fdor-4 (.500) with a grand slam and 5 runs batted in.

Carson Hawsey OF / West Monroe, LA / 2027

The uncommitted junior went 4-for-7 (.471) with 2 doubles and 2 runs scored last week for the Rebels.

Corey Bourgeois 3B / RHP / Vandebilt Catholic, LA / 2028

Bourgeois hit at a .417 clip last week with 2 doubles, 1 triple, 5 runs batted in, and 4 runs scored for the Terriers.

Krash Menard 2B / C / Vandebilt Catholic, LA / 2028

Menard finished last week with a .462 average and a .533 on-base percentage to go along with 3 doubles, 1 triple, 3 runs batted in, and 4 runs scored.

Weston Landry 3B / RHP / Sulphur, LA / 2029

The former Junior Future Gamer went 2-for-6 (.333) with a triple and 2 runs batted in. He also went 2-0 last week on the mound and struck out 9 over 14 innings pitched.

Carter Wilson LHP / OF / Sulphur, LA / 2026

The McNeese State recruit went 6-for-13 (.462) with a double last week and also threw 7 innings allowing 1 run on 3 hits with 9 strikeouts.

Gary Brignac Vandebilt Catholic, LA / 2027

Brignac hit at a .500 clip with a home run, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 6 runs batted in, and 4 runs scored last week for the Terriers.

Rahim Alem OF / 3B / Westgate, LA / 2028

Alem hit at a .800 clip last week for the Tigers with 1 home run, 2 doubles, 2 triples, 9 runs batted in, and 7 runs scored, while also stealing 9 bases.

Luke Brignac Ascension Christian, LA / 2027

Brignac hit .875 with a .979 on-base percentage with a double, triple, and 10 runs batted in. He also earned a win with 5 innings pitched and 7 strikeouts.

Logan Fanguy Ascension Christian, LA / 2027

Fanguy made two appearances last week and threw 7 shutout innings with 10 strikeouts.

Talen Landry OF / LHP / Erath, LA / 2026

Landry went 9-for-12 (.667) with a home run, double, adn 4 runs batted in out of the nine-hole for the Bobcats.

Brennan Baker C / Sulphur, LA / 2028

Baker went 6-fo-9 (.667) with a double and 2 runs batted in for the Tors last week.

Jackson Yeager LHP / OF / Iota, LA / 2027

Yeager hit at a .625 clip last week with 4 runs scored and 2 walks.

Jude Knapps OF / 1B / St. Michael's, LA / 2026

Knapps hit at a .625 clip last week with 2 doubles, 5 runs batted in, and he also drew 2 walks.

Kameron Bailey OF / LHP / Zachary, LA / 2027

The uncommitted junior finished last week with a .833 average and .909 on-base percentage to go along with 7 runs batted in and 6 stolen bases.

Cullen Howard RHP / SS / Zachary, LA / 2026

Howard threw 6 innings last week and allowed only 1 earned run on 3 hits with 9 strikeouts.

Hudson Champlin RHP / UTL / Christian Home Educators, LA / 2027

Champlin threw a complete-game shutout last week and allowed only 2 hits with 1 walk and 10 strikeouts.

Lannie Reed St. Edmund, LA

Reed went 4-for-8 (.500) with a .556 on-base percentage and 2 doubles last week.

Peyton Vizena C / RHP / St. Edmund, LA / 2026

Vizena went 4-for-7 (.571) last week a double and 1 run batted in and also earned the win on the mound against Sacred Heart after throwing 6 shutout innings with 7 strikeouts.

Riley Jones OF / 2B / Iota, LA / 2028

Jones hit .600 last week with 3 runs batted in and 3 runs scored.

Reece Dommert LHP / 1B / Iota, LA / 2026

Dommert finished last week with a .500 average to go along with a triple, 6 runs batted in, and 3 runs scored.

Dace Fuselier C / Iota, LA / 2028

The sophomore backstop hit at a .500 clip last week with a double, triple, and 6 runs batted in.
