As we have for the past few years, each week we will be highlighting the staff's pick for the VA/DC High School Player of the Week. Each selection is made from a game that a staff member was at the previous week. Our staff saw 21 games last week (3/23-3/28), not including the six on Saturday at the Commonwealth Classic, and we voted on who would be bringing home the honors for Week 2.
VA/DC Player of the Week: Ryan Watson
A lot of times the Player of the Week honors can be difficult to select, but not this week. Ryan Watson separated himself from the pack with his loud performance on Friday versus Cape Henry. The uncommitted power bat was 3-4 on the day, hitting three homeruns, scoring three runs, and driving in six of the eleven Gators on the day. While we do not factor in games that our staff is not at for the Player of the Week award, Watson was 5-11 on the week. In addition to his three homeruns, the Future Games alum also had a double and scored five total runs on the week. While it probably would not have mattered who it was against, because three bolts is three bolts, the fact that it came versus a quality opponent in an always high intensity game, made it even more impressive.
