Over the next few weeks, leading up to the beginning of the 2026 MD High School season, our staff will be releasing our Preseason Power 25. This list will be comprised of public and private schools across the state that we feel have a strong chance of being successful in 2026.

#8 Walter Johnson Wildcats 

What a wild ride it was for the Wildcats in 2025, as Walter Johnson ran through an extremely competitive 4A classification, ultimately winning the state championship for the first time in program history. Turn the page to 2026, and this roster returns a plethora of impact offensive pieces with one of the deepest pitching staffs in the state. Possessing one of the top frontline starters on the bump, with experienced depth behind him should bode well for consistent success on that side of the ball, and look for Coach Sutherland to get the most out of what could be a high-powered offense as the spring rolls on.
